The National Council of Churches, calling itself “the leading force for shared ecumenical witness among Christians in the United States,” is charging the jury in the Trayvon Martin case, defendant George Zimmerman, Americans and churches with racism.
But as it turns out, the organization has gotten into serious trouble for making that same claim in the past.
“In the wake of George Zimmerman’s acquittal of the murder of Trayvon Martin, the National Council of Churches joins other people of faith and conscience in a renewed call for racial justice,” she said. “This summer as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, we are reminded that racism is alive and well. We have seen this in the Supreme Court’s recent invalidation of parts of the Voting Rights Act and now in the shocking impunity granted by a Florida jury to a man who stalked and killed a black child.”
There was no mention that the evidence showed Martin attacked Zimmerman and bashed his head against a concrete sidewalk, causing Zimmerman to fear for his life and fire his gun in self-defense.
I realize WND is not exactly a widely respected source across the political spectrum and I admit, it's a site I very rarely read. However, I thought y'all who regularly donate to religious charities should be aware of how some of your donations may be used.

Yes, and according to one of the potential jurors said in jury selection that she didn't want to be on the jury because she knew she'd be walking out of the courthouse with a bulls eye on her back. I have no doubt all the other PJ's knew the same thing.
It appears TrayParent's petitions aren't pulling in the "millions" of signers as their original petition. I'm not sure what the need is to have 2 petitions.
I see they are using the Dunn case for more propaganda.

Maybe they couldn't amend it after a certain time so as to add more propaganda? I also noticed they weren't getting signatures at nearly the prior pace, but it's still much, much too high. Thanks for the heads up on the 2nd one. Those people are so un-freakin'-believable, and disgusting; un-freakin'-believably disgusting.

We are not the only ones calling for 'Stand Your Ground' laws to be reviewed. President Obama spoke out on the need for review, and prominent Republicans like Senator John McCain have joined him. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s not ‘black’ or ‘white’ issue, it’s a wrong and right issue. This is a matter of making sure that no other family will ever have to go through what we have been through. No parents should ever have to know what it feels like to watch your child's killer walk free.
Here in Florida, we are pushing for an amendment to Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' law. Sign our petition to call on all at least 21 governors to review their laws and consider similar amendments so that they can protect children in their states, just as we wish Florida would have protected Trayvon.

The parents of Trayvon Martin and their lawyer met with Justice Department prosecutors and FBI agents at the U.S. attorney’s office in Miami Wednesday to discuss the status of a criminal civil-rights investigation into the fatal shooting of their teen-age son last year.
The federal investigation, which was opened while George Zimmerman faced prosecution for the death of the 17-year-old, gained renewed interest last month after Zimmerman was acquitted in state court of Martin’s killing in a Sanford gated community.
Prosecutors with the Justice Department’s criminal civil-rights section and FBI agents from Central Florida met with the late teen’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, and their attorney, Benjamin Crump, to bring the family up to speed, according to sources familiar with the meeting. But Obama and Holder run the DoJ, and like their other sock-puppet special prosecutor who perverted evidence and law to put Zimmerman on trial for 2nd degree murder, they're capable of subverting the Shepard-Byrd provisions to find a way to put him on trial again. They're under pressure to bring him to trial, and it's not going to be easy for them to back away now. This, for instance, was in today's news in L.A.
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles City Council is scheduled to vote today on a resolution calling for a federal investigation into the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.
Los Angeles Councilman Bernard Parks, the city's former police chief, introduced the resolution last week, saying a federal probe could "bring some closure" following the acquittal of neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the gunshot death of the 17-year-old boy.
The verdict in the Zimmerman case sparked protests in Los Angeles that at times grew violent, and community leaders organized groups of "peace monitors" tasked with maintaining calm.
Parks' resolution was drawn up at the urging of Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson, who said last week that the city should become one of the first in the nation to officially support a federal probe.
The Justice Department has acknowledged that it has an open investigation into Martin's death. Last week, it issued a statement saying multiple federal agencies, including the FBI, "continue to evaluate evidence generated during the federal investigation as well as the evidence and testimony from the state trial."
But federal action against Zimmerman appears unlikely. During a speech earlier this month, President Barack Obama said that "it's important for people to have Advertisement some clear expectations" about the prospect such action.
