liesel...he played right into the perpetually aggrieved hands. What if TM had stood his ground, had been white, the plight of the poor black man...the same old following in a store, lady in elevator, locking car doors, etc... Did he mention if this is so, why do people have have this perception/fear of black men? Did he tell black men they should'nt use violence to solve their problems? Did he mention the statistics show crime is committed by a disproportionate number of black men? Or did he mention this case was not about RACE! Did he mention Chicago and most inner cities that are out of control with black on black crime? If he wants to have a talk about race, he should be addressing the issues in black community. Did he ask the black community to understand how the white community feels?
Did he mention the Zimmermans have been subject to death treats, their lives have been devastated and yet, they have remained dignified as well. All he left out was George should have let Trayvon beat him to death and everyone would have been happy.
BTW When I was a teen, I was stopped in a store, accused of shoplifting, brought into store office and had my purse and pockets searched. It may happen to black teens more often, but it happens to white kids too. As parents we've had "the talk" with our kids too. If you're are stopped by police, be respectful, don't wonder into neighborhoods where you may encounter problems, when you leave our house, you represent our family and our values, act according.
Somebody please send him Trayvon's file....he can't be that much in the dark.
Yes, he played into Trayborg™ hands, but I don't think it was unwitting. I think he knew what he was doing and it's deliberate to get support for larger agenda items, like gun control. There is no way any rational person, or anyone with even just a few working brain cells, could disagree with the well stated point you made about O inciting instead of healing. He's the perfect person to use this incident to try to heal the nation and positively affect race relations, but he chose to exacerbate the situation for his own political ends. He is the perfect person to provide
real help and guidance to black youth, all other youth, and the black community. He could have used this case as a springboard for a real conversation about race and how to really improve the lives of real people of all races, but particularly the poor black communities. He chose not to, again, for his own political reasons.
Make no mistake - O is not in the dark about any aspect of this case. I suspect he and his advisors have had very long strategy sessions on how to best use this tragedy for political ends.
God bless you and those like you for trying to raise your children (not leaving it to schools or others), and for trying to raise them right. We've had similar talks with ours. Something else we've learned along the way that we've added to those talks is that the manners you use in public should be used with your family. Why would you treat strangers better than those who love you?
