RESULTS - SKY NEWSVoting is taking place to elect more than 8,000 councillors in 248 English councils.
Northern Ireland voters are choosing almost 462 councillors in 11 councils.
One hundred-and-fourteen councils will begin their counts when the
polls close at 10pm.Results from these authorities will be declared from midnight onwards. The remaining authorities begin counting on Friday.
Midnight to 1amSeven councils are racing to be first to declare with Conservative controlled Basildon and Broxbourne and Labour-run Halton and Harlow among the favourites.
The early-declaring councils are strong Brexit-voting areas. Electoral turnout is bound to fall - these elections were last fought on general election day 2015 - but how far? A massive drop, into the 20-25% region, and this becomes the "stay at home" election.
1am to 2amAnother 11 declarations are due, Sunderland amongst them. UKIP is contesting every ward here, but the omens are not good for Nigel Farage's former party.
They are on course to lose more than 150 seats overall and the party is fortunate Mr Farage's new Brexit party is not contesting these elections.
2am to 3amThe pace begins to quicken as 30 councils post their results.
3am to 4amBut if losses are half that the Tory spin machine goes into overdrive.
4am to 5amIt would be rather embarrassing for the prime minister if Conservative councillors in her own backyard of Windsor and Maidenhead were to lose seats to a brand-new party - The Borough First which only formed last year.
5am-8amThe stragglers will take us through until the close of part one, including a fascinating battle in Stoke on Trent where Labour launched its campaign.
