Oscar Pistorius trial: Australia's Channel Seven defends broadcasting 'legally obtained' re-enactment
Australian broadcaster insists its leaked re-enactment of the Pistorius shooting was obtained legally but would not say whether it promised to show it only after the trial
By Jonathan Pearlman, Sydney
7:00AM BST 07 Jul 2014

An Australian television station, Channel Seven, has defended its decision to show leaked footage of Oscar Pistorius re-enacting the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, saying the video was obtained legally and only broadcast in Australia.

The weekly current affairs program which featured the footage, Sunday Night, defended the decision to air it and said it had undertaken a "significant investigation" into the trial.

"We would not have run the footage if we thought we had obtained it illegally," said Mark Llewellyn, the program's executive producer, in a statement.

"The material shown on Sunday Night goes to the heart of both the prosecution and defence cases, including the account provided by Oscar Pistorius. The story was run in Australia only and not made available to any other territory."

I would say the whole video thing is a storm in a teacup. The usual sideshow circus distraction from a real trial. Personally I am left being pissed off with CH7 because of all the hype and links that dont work. I tweeted them my displeasure :cool I got them to CONFESS that it was not available outside Australia ( except of course it is if you try hard). I wasted a lot of time trying to find working links. When I finally saw it.. useful to see OP on stumps etc. but the doco itself contained inaccuracies and bias. As is often the case, MSM seem to think that you have to balance reason on one side with bias on the other (wrong) side. I broadcaster with balls might consider actually researching and then airing what ever is correct according to the evidence.

Pistorius' defense team to wrap up
Updated: July 7, 2014, 11:25 AM ET
Associated Press

PRETORIA, South Africa -- The defense team for Oscar Pistorius plans to close its case after its last witness, a physician who has treated the athlete, completed his testimony at the murder trial on Monday, a lawyer said.

The end of testimony signals a new phase in the months-long trial of Pistorius, who killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home in what he has described as a mistaken shooting. It is expected to lead to a break during which the defense and prosecution prepare final arguments as the high-profile legal battle moves toward a conclusion.

Barry Roux, the chief defense lawyer, indicated that he would wrap up on Tuesday morning after final consultations with his team.

"We plan to close the case," Roux told Judge Thokozile Masipa.

"Full of inconsistencies" seems to be the war cry of the Lynch mob. :95

They seem to think that if Nil can bully and badger somebody into an apparent (minor) inconsistency, then that in turn PROVES any other version that Nil might pull out of his arse? A version not spoken of other than in vague terms... that has inconsistencies and impossibilities even BEFORE it is outlined fully. :wall

It's a laugh when Nil feigns that he is butt-hurt because witnesses have "not considered" the State version?

"Lettuce, lettuce... lettuce DEAL with this. Did you consider the State's version?"

The appropriate response to that is "What fucking State version??" :lol

That video is not accurate at all. Reeva wasn't cowering behind the toilet bowl. If she was, how the hell could she get hit in the hip? The magazine rack was in the center of the wall just like he said the maid had always put it and when Reeva was shot in the hip she fell backwards, which is why she was found slumped over the toilet bowl. Reeva had moved the rack slightly with her foot as she was moving around in there because it's a very small area and it was obviously dark in there. But the sound of the door clicking was the catalyst for Oscar firing the shots. Derman didn't even have that right. Actually he said he didn't remember. But OP testified to it as a distinct click the toilet door makes which naturally caused him to think that person was coming out of the toilet.

Those bumbling police putzes moved the magazine rack when they were doing their amateur photos and rearranging stuff, and walking on doors. They put it in the blood next to the toilet bowl so they could move around in that small area to get straight-on shots of the toilet bowl. That's why the foot is in the blood on one of the photos. They lifted it up and put it there.

So no wonder they didn't introduce the video in court. The animation was probably showing the same thing. Brian Webber said that was the reason they didn't use it. Those Australian butt wipes pulled a Judas in airing it early. But Roder is screwed as far as his integrity goes as well, which he should be. This is an inexcusable betrayal to disclose work material which should have been privileged and confidential until a release was granted by the defense from the non disclosure agreement. Heads should be on the chopping block and staggering amounts of money for the violation should be received by the defense.

Nel was sniffing all around with Derman for an air hole to get an opportunity to be able to "open the door" for that video to be introduced. Did you notice how he was asking...over the weekend, did you see anything else that related to the accused running or that he could run on his stumps (paraphrasing). He wanted him to have seen that video and was hoping he had. That slimey prick.

What the video DID show though is the perspective of the bed in relation to the balcony doors and the LED light on the stereo, which is the important thing. It validates how easily Reeva could have scooched off the bed making it impossible for Oscar to see her. The shots/bat demo was also good for those who never saw the other demo and first realized how similar they could be. But that still didn't show how TRULY alike they could sound because Oscar BROKE the door. And no demonstration yet has shown how loud it would be if you actually swung the bat hard enough to do that.

If Pistorius was fabricating his story, what reason whatsoever would he have to include the magazine rack in the scenario at all? It just added all kinds of unnecessary complications. He already had the door slam sound that he heard in the passageway and a click noise telling him the door was about to be opened. What else would he need? The only logical conclusion is that he said he heard the magazine rack move on the tile because it was the truth. That would have scared anybody. If you think not, walk into a totally dark room in your house at 3 AM and imagine you're sure you just heard somebody enter your house through a window. Then have somebody move something creating the distinct sound of wood moving on tile. See if it doesn't freak you out. And you KNOW there is no danger to you at all. But just create the environment. Then add in all the other factors that we know about that Pistorius had that night. It will give you a whole new perspective.

Oscar Pistorius's defence team plans to rest case on Tuesday
South African sprinter accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp could be just weeks away from learning his fate
David Smith in Pretoria
Monday 7 July 2014 19.52 BST

Oscar Pistorius's defence team in his murder trial plans to rest its case on Tuesday, meaning that the athlete could be just weeks away from learning his fate.

"I can say prima facie we plan to close the case," the defence counsel, Barry Roux, told the judge, Thokozile Masipa, on Monday. "I just need to get proper instructions. Can we stand till tomorrow morning, my lady, just to confer with everyone around me and make sure it is the right move?"
[....]
Since opening on 3 March in a blaze of media attention , the trial, originally set down for three weeks, has run for 38 working days over four months punctuated by several long adjournments and postponements.

If the prosecution does not call further witnesses on Tuesday, all the evidence will have been heard. Masipa will agree with both sides a date by which they must submit their closing arguments in writing and return to court to deliver them, likely to be next month. She will then retire to consider her verdict.

The trial will then adjourn again before returning for mitigation arguments and sentence. Should the judgment go against him, Pistorius has the right to appeal. He is likely to remain on bail throughout the process.

Well today should see the defence winding up, and we are told that all the summing up will be in about a month's time. Or, closing arguments. No wonder I'm losing interest.

Hohum! It takes weeks to prepare their closing arguments, well I should not be surprised, they are really milking this case for all its worth. :lol :wall
