7:39 am
Today prosecutor Gerrie Nel is expected to question Pistorius about when he broke down the door to the toilet and found Reeva's body.

Mr Nel is also expected to deal with questions about noises that the defence has claimed were mistaken by neighbours for gunshots.

The judge says she will think about the postponement, and make an announcement tomorrow morning.

Nel returns to his cross-examination of Pistorius.

He says Reeva must have opened the bathroom window, with Pistorius agreeing she did so before she went to the toilet.

Nel says: "On your version, you heard the noise, you armed yourself...walked down the passage and screamed."

She had had time to "void her bladder" and get dressed, says Nel.

8:34 am
The hearing has begun for the morning, but Nel is making an application to postpone the case later this week.

He confirmed he will finish cross examination today, but says he wants to return on mAY 5.

He said "there comes a time" when the diary gets too clogged up.

He adds "we have used court time to the maximum", and says it is also an issue of personal arrangements for himself and his colleagues.

8:14 am
Oscar Pistorius has just arrived in court for the start of today's proceedings:

Nel says he wants to deal with is the noise in the toilet.

The prosecutor says that in his bail application, Pistorius said: "I heard movement inside the toilet."

Pistorius reiterates he thought he heard the sound of wood, possibly the magazine rack being moved.

But Nel says this was not what was said in the bail application.

Pistorius says he charged the door with his left shoulder, with the gun still in his right hand.

Pistorius voice begins to break as he says he ran screaming.

He tells the court: "I was screaming Reeva, Reeva, I was crying."

"I was overcome with terror and despair."

8:53 am
They are now talking about what happened immediately after the shooting.

Pistorius says he grabbed the cricket bat and ran back to the toilet.

He adds: "I hot the frame of the door... I remember the shock in my hand from hitting the door."

He says he was "screaming the entire time".

He says he was crying for the Lord to help him, and screaming for Reeva.

8:52 am
Pistorius is now being asked about Reeva's jeans which were found inside0out. Nel insists she was dressing in a hurry.

The prosecutor says "there was argument, she wanted to leave, and you were threatening her".

But Pistorius counters that would not make sense. He says: "If she wanted to leave, why would she got out of her jeans and put on my clothes."

8:49 am
Nel asks why Pistorius used the word "movement" rather than "noise". The athlete says movement is more specific than noise.

Pistorius says he had meant to say he heard the sound of the magazine rack moving.

Nel asks him: "Why would you fire at a magazine rack?"

Pistorius says he did not have time to interpret it.

He wipes his eyes before Nel says to him: "I put it to you this is just one further contradiction."

Pistorius says that a splinter of the right panel broke out o the door, and he saw Reeva.

He says he ripped off more panels, and saw the key on the floor, which he used to unlock the door.

Pistorius is in tears again as he describes Reeva's position when he found her.

"She was on the floor with her right arm on the toilet... her head was on her shoulder."

We're now looking at a picture of the bloodied toilet. Pistorius stands up and shows with his hand where her head was.

9:02 am
The state's forensic expert Colonel Vermeulen put the bat in position against the door.

Pistorius looks at his feet to check his position and makes a swinging movement with the in a sudden manner. He is asked to move back and do it again and accidentally bangs the door slightly.

Nel says he would have hit higher.

8:59 am
Nel says: "You weren't screaming 'Reeva, Reeva', because she was hiding in the toilet?"

Pistorius says no.

Nel now asks Pistorius if he is willing to do another demonstration with the bat at the door in the court room.

The Blade Runner says he is willing to do anything the court asks of him.

Pistorius, who is in tears again, says he then carried Reeva downstairs where Johan Standers had arrived.

He says they told him to put her down, and an ambulance was on its way.

Nel asks him about the phone call he made to his friend Justin Divaris.

9:20 am
Oscar says he was talking to Reeva, saying: "Baby please hold on. Jesus please help me. I was praying for her."

Pistorius says the phone records show he called security, although he had not memory of that call.

Nel puts it to him that he didn't want security there and rang them by mistake.

Pistorius denies this.

9:17 am
The court is looking again at police photographs. Pistorius says he cannot remember putting down the gun or the cricket bat.

He tells how he called the ambulance service, who told him to take her to closest hospital.

Nel asks why he was not screaming at this point, "now you see her, now she's wounded."

Oscar says: "I'm broken, I'm crying."

9:13 am
He says he grabbed her phone, but could not use it because it was locked so he "dropped" it or "put it down".

He then went and got his own phone from the side of the bed and called Johan Stander, the estate manager.

9:10 am
Pistorius claims the magazine rack seen in the photo was not where it is pictured. He says it was on the far right.

Pistorius says he then checked to see if Reeva was breathing our if she had a pulse.

He says he "pulled her round on to come".

"I heard her breathing so I tried to get her up and out of the toilet. I wasn't able to so I scuttled round on my legs."

He says that must have been when he kicked the magazine rack.

We've gone back to the photographs of the crime scene again.

Nel is talking about the magazine rack which is pictured stood in a pool of blood.

Pistorius says someone must have picked up and placed it there.

We're taking a short five minute break for Nel to speak with his team.

We're back from the short break. Nel tells Pistorius that if the rack was moved, it could not have made the marks on her back as the defence claimed.

He reiterates that when he found Reeva, the magazine rack was not where it is shown in the photo.

Nel says: "Who is to blame for what happened... who should we blame for the fact you shot her?"

Pistorius replies that he believed there was a threat on his life.

"I don't know. I was scared," he says. "Should we blame Reeva?... The Government."

No, says Oscar.

Nel again: "Who should we blame for the black talon rounds that ripped through her body?"

Defence barrister Barry Roux asks for a short five minute adjournment.

9:51 am
Nel says Pistorius' version of events is not only untruthful, but it's so improbable it cannot possibly be true.

The prosecutor says he believes the court will make the following findings:

  • That Reeva ate within two hours of Pistorius having shot and killed her
  • That while Reeva was awake and eating, there was argument which was heard by neighbour Van der Merwe
  • Witnesses Johnson, Burger and Stipps heard Reeva's "blood curdling" screams when she escaped from Pistorius
  • Pistorius fired four shots through the door knowing it was her
  • Pistorius armed himself with the sole purpose of shooting Reeva

The athlete denies all of these.

Nel finishes by saying Pistorius was overcome with emotion after the shooting, but only because he intended to kill her.

Nel says he has no further questions. :91

Pistorius is asked if the light in the toilet was working - he says it was not.

And that's it from Pistorius. He steps down from the witness box.

There will be a 25 minute break before the next witness.

10:45 am
Roux shows the court a photo of the duvet spread open on th bedroom floor covering Reeva's jeans.

The jeans are not inside out, as they were in the photo shown by Nel.

Roux is now handing Pistorius the Valentine's Day card and letter Reeva gave to him on the day of the shooting.

The envelope says "Ozzy", with some hearts.

The card says: "Roses are red, violets are blue.. I think today is a good day to tell you that I love you".

Roux concludes.

10:40 am
Pistorius says when he was facing the door: "I was terrified overcome with fear... It was just complete terror and helplessness."

Roux asks him: "Did you consciously pull the trigger?"

Pistorius says he didn't think about pulling the trigger, adding: "I feared for my life... I was thinking about what could happen to me or Reeva."

10:38 am
The hearing begins again, with defence barrister Barry Roux now re-examining his client.

Roux asks about Pistorius' cross examination, when he spoke about hearing some one slam the door. Pistorius says he apologised to the court after Gerrie Nel asked him this question because he was confused by how it was put to him.

Roux then asks him what he means when he talks about an "accident".

Pistorius says he was talking about the situation as a whole, adding: "It wasn't meant to be."

10:15 am
We're still waiting for the session to resume after its adjournment.

Pistorius' family have been looking relieved after Nel finished his cross-examination. The athlete's sister, Aimee, has been comforted by her Uncle Arnold as she cried in the court room.

Here is the moment Oscar broke down as he described finding Reeva's body in his bathroom.

Dixon was asked to look at the lighting in Pistorius' bedroom.

He examined the room in the dark with "everything off".

He says he "could not see anything at all, not even my hand in front of my face."

The witness adds that it was a "moonless night" when he did the test, similar to the night of the shooting.

He tells the court he went there last night too.

Roux shows the court photographs taken by Dixon at night of the Stipps house.

Dixon then talks about a photo that shows that with the lights off at Pistorius' house, you could not see anything from the outside.

11:30 am
Dixon said last night there was a moon so the "illumination in the passage was much more than the moonless night".

He also says that the light in the toilet was not working.
