Mr Roux asks the judge if it is an opportune time for lunch. A police officer hands Pistorius a bucket again as he struggles to hold it together.

The court is adjourned for 45 minutes.

Pistorius slumps with his head in his hands, sobbing as Reeva's head injury flashes up on screen again.

He heard a door slam which he said could only have been the toilet door. He couldn't see into the bathroom.

"For me it confirmed that there was a person or people in there at the time."

Roux is now talking about pictures of the scene.

As he entered the passageway to the bathroom, he said that was when he was overcome with fear and started screaming and shouting at the person or people to get out of the house.

Says he was also shouting at Reeva to call the police.

He added that he didn't have his legs on.

Before he got to the wall of where the tiles start in the bathroom he stopped shouting because he realised that the person would know where he was.

We are expecting Pistorius back in court at any moment now.

It is expected that he will give his version of events the moment that he pulled the trigger three times, killing Reeva Steenkamp.

He said he heard what he perceived to be someone coming from out of the door.

So "before I knew it I had fired four shots at the door. My ears were ringing and I couldn't hear anything."

He said he then shouted for Reeva and 'at some point I decided to walk back to the room'. But didn't get a response.

He is shown this picture. He said that the toilet door was closed and he looked at the window and the toilet door.

He screamed for Reeva to call the police. "I wasn't sure if someone was going to come out of the toilet and attack me"

He peered around the corner and looked towards the shower. He wasn't sure if there were people in the bathroom or a ladder they might have used to gain access.

He had the pistol raised to his eye. He shows the court on a diagram where he was at the time.

The lights were off in the bathroom but he said the window was open.

"I was pretty much on my back against against the wall with my hand up against the wall as balance."

He is shown a picture of the entrance to the bathroom from the passage.

He said he was walking to the bathroom against the wall with his left hand against the wall.

He added that he was not able to walk with as much mobility on the bath tiles.

Court resumes and Pistorius is back in his suit.

He says he was in the passage and stopped screaming as he entered the bathroom.

He wasn't shouting or screaming because he feared the intruder or intruders were in the bathroom at the time.

He saw the key was on the floor in the bathroom.

"I sat over Reeva and I cried. I don't know how long I was there for."

He then broke down in tears as did many other people in court.

"She wasn't breathing."

He sobbed loudly in court as the judge calls for an adjournment.

He said he didn't know what to do and he must have put his gun onto the bath mat.

He said the light was on at the time that he hit the door with the cricket bat.

The first time he hit it, he hit the frame in the door. Then he hit it again and hit a small piece open.

He wanted to look at that point to see if it was Reeva.

He went to the balcony and screamed "help help help"!

He said he put his prosthetic legs back on and tried to kick the door but nothing happened. He said he was panicked at this point and didn't know what to do.

Ran back to the bedroom for the cricket back.

He said he was crying out for the Lord to help him, he was screaming.

He said he didn't want to take his eyes off where the closet was. It was at that point that he says it dawned upon him that it could be Reeva in the bathroom.

He ran his hand along the curtains to see that she wasn't hiding behind the curtains.

"I couldn't see much in the room but I could see where the passage was and I felt my way around."

"I was mixed with emotions, I didn't want to believe that it could be Reeva inside the toilet."

He says he still thought it could have been someone coming to try and attack them.

He walked back to the bedroom with his hands on the cupboards and his pistol was still raised.

It still hadn't occurred to him that it might be Reeva.

He tried to lift himself onto the bed while talking to Reeva, but nobody responded to him. He put his hand to the right hand side of the bed to feel for Reeva. "I couldn't feel anything and at that point the first point was that she had got down onto the floor like I told her to. Maybe she was scared.

"I can't remember what I said."

Court back in session, but Roux announces that OP is still outside... too distraught to carry on.

Asks for court to stand down until tomorrow.

Nel says something? I assume a small foot stamp?

He really is looking like a nasty little man.

The trial returns and Roux says that Pistorius' shirt is soaking wet because of his emotions.

He asks that the court is adjourned until tomorrow morning.

Nel agrees as does the judge, ending proceedings for today.

Welcome to today's live updates from the trial of Oscar Pistorius where he is expected to enter the stand for the third day.

Roux is back on his feet and asking Pistorius to continue where he left off yesterday.

He said that after he went into the toilet he knelt down over Reeva.

Her weight was on the toilet bowl and she wasn't breathing. He took her weight and "sat there crying for some time"

He says "I was trying to pick Reeva up but I couldn't. I was scared that I'd hurt her more so I put her arm onto her body".

He has started crying now.

He then phoned security. "I could see that she was breathing, struggling to breath. I called 911 Netcare.

"I don't recall speaking to the operator but I remember him telling me that I must get Reeva to the hospital that I mustn't wait for him."

He then phoned Johan Stander to ask him for help - he is a friend from the estate.

He wanted help to pick Reeva up.

That call was at 3.19am according to phone records.

He couldn't pick her up at first so he pulled her into the bathroom. He put her head down on one of the carpets.

He grabbed her cellphone but could not access it because of the passcode.

After a long pause he said he went back to the bedroom to get both his phones and ran back to Reeva.

I could feel the blood was running down on me. At that point I heard her breathing so I put her weight on top of me and I swivelled around.

He wanted to get her to the door of the toilet so he could pick her up.

He pauses before saying that he could see that her arm was broken.

He said there was a person who arrived at the house.

He was told there was a doctor and he said "I immediately felt relieved".

He said this was Dr Stipp. "I remember crying for him to help me for him to help Reeva.

"He didn't seem to know what he was doing like he was overwhelmed by the situation."

He doesn't recall doing anything with the plastic bags.

Speaking about plastic bags at the scene he said he was putting pressure on her hip to prevent it from bleeding as much.

Miss Stander asked if he had any tape or rope to tie Reeva's arms to prevent the bleeding.

He doesn't recall if he went to the cabinet to get the items.

"When I got down to the bottom of the flight of stairs, either Mr Stander or [Miss] Stander told me to put Reeva down

"I said 'we need to get to the hospital, we need to get to the hospital', they said 'just put her down, the ambulance is on its way'.

"And then I just sat there with her I waited for the ambulance to arrive. I felt helpless I just wanted to take her to the hospital, I had my finger in her mouth I was trying to help her breathe."

He also said he had a hand on her hip to stop the bleeding.

He says he doesn't recall phoning security, but records show that a call was made to him on his mobile.

He opened his bedroom door and front door. He then ran back to his room.

Most of the doors are double-doors so that the house is wheelchair friendly, including in his bedroom. He opened them both.

He says: "I then went back to the bathroom and I picked Reeva up."

After a pause, emotional Pistorius said: "I don't recall carrying her some of the way but I remember getting to the second flight of stairs and Mr Stander and his daughter Miss Stander arrived.

"A that point I was shouting for him to help me get her to the hospital."

The paramedic asked him for identification so he went to get her handbag from his bedroom.

Ms Stander was waiting on the first floor outside the room and he passed it to her.

8:52 am
Pistorius said he stood back when they arrived a couple of metres away from them. He says the house is open planned so he was towards the kitchen

Pistorius cries as he says the paramedic then approached him and told him that "Reeva has passed."

"Reeva had already died whilst I was holding her before the ambulance arrived so I knew that there was nothing that I could do for her."

He kneeled down for a couple of minutes on Reeva's side and then he said he went outside for a couple of minutes.

He said he then shouted for Dr Stipp to come back and help him before paramedics arrived.

Pistorius stood up at that point.

Pistorius says he was stood in the kitchen when Botha came back downstairs.

Colonel Van Rensburg put his hand on his shoulder and said he didn't need to speak to anyone but he needed to go to the garage to have photos taken of him.

He went to the garage where there was a police officer the whole time.

"I was in the garage for several hours."

He wanted have the pictures taken and to take all his clothes off "because they were all just stained."

He saw Hilton Botha arrive and asked if he remembered him.

Botha went upstairs for a while.

He was in the kitchen where he stayed because every time he looked round the corner and saw Reeva he felt sick.

Pistorius said at times he couldn't sit then he couldn't stand. Every time he looked there were more people arriving at the house going up and down the stairs.

He was standing in the kitchen and he asked if he could wash his hands "Because the smell of the blood was making me throw up."

He asked Colonel Van Rensburg if he could wash his hands. He said yes and he washed his hands and face.

8:56 am
He said that there were two officers dressed in civilian clothing.

Colonel van Rensburg introduced himself but at that point he was unable to speak: "I was sitting on the floor crying."

Some time passed and a police officer asked him to stay in the kitchen.

He told them that nobody else was in the house.

He returned downstairs to where the paramedics were "I sat in the kitchen on the floor crying".

He says he doesn't know how much time passed but then police officers arrived soon after.

He said: "From the garage I was taken to the foyer, or the reception area of my home, and a police officer came up to me, he introduced himself, he told me that he was a friend of a family member of mine and that I didn't have anything to worry about, he was just there to look after me.

"It was at that point that Colonel Van Rensburg informed me that because I was the only person in the house they were going to have to charge me.

"He said to me that I was under arrest."

He was taken into the car by officer Labuschagne who told him that there was a lot of media waiting outside.

Showing the motion of how he hit the cricket bat he said that he watched the demonstration.

He said that he used his entire body and agrees that the door was hit with an unnatural swing.

"When breaking down a door you don't swing the bat with a natural swing."

He is now showing the court how high he can kick with his prosthetic leg on.

He managed to kick just about the door handle.

Asked about Dr Stipps evidence about the speed of events Pistorius said that it can't physically be right.

He said that there are many many many facts that point to there being five minutes between the sounds.

He said that the first noise would have been when he fired his pistol.

The bangs at 3.17am were him hitting the door, he says.

Pistorius says that he has marked out how fast he could walk. He said that it was about five minutes after he shot the bullets.

This is consistent with the shots being fired at around 3.12am.

He is asked what the three sounds might have been.

Pistorius says they would have been the sound of the cricket bat on the door.

He said he was walking through the bathroom when he went to kick the door, when he went back to the room with his prosthetic legs on.

He says he can barely stand on his stumps, let alone yield a bat.

At 3.55am there was a call to Justin Divaris, his best friend.

Ms Stander asked if she should phone anyone - Pistorius doesn't recall if he spoke to anyone.

Ms Stander also called his agent and his brother. He says he didn't phone a lawyer.

The cricket bat is now brought out for Pistorius to show how he hit the door to get to Reeva.

Labuschagne told him he would tell him if he thought there was someone following.

"I was crying, I just didn't want to speak to anyone".

He realised they were at a Academic Hospital in Mamelodi. He was taken inside a reception area where he was introduced to a doctor.

"We were there for some time and he conducted various tests.

He hit the door back and forward using his back.

Roux says the height was more or less the same as a sticker on the door.

"I hit the door with all my height".

He said he doubts he was in the same position all the time because he was wearing socks on a tiled floor.

He is asked how much of his body would be seen in the window.

Without his prosthetics he says that only his head would stick out "at most my shoulders".

Stipp's evidence was that he saw a person move from right to left. If he didn't have his legs on he wouldn't be able to see a person.

Roux: "That could only mean one thing." That he was in the bathroom shortly before 3.17.

Pistorius said he was in the bathroom to kick the door and then ran to get the cricket back.

"What they must have seen is me running from right to left to kick the door."

That was when the Stipps called 10111 (security).

9:27 am
Shortly before the 3.17am noises [the noises relied upon by the state as the gun shots], Mrs Nhlengethwa (Mike's wife) said she saw someone walking across the bathroom.

She heard the three thud sounds.

Court was interrupted briefly by a mobile phone ringing.

His next door neighbours heard a bang then there were bangs at 3.16.

Roux says she said that she heard loud crying, but not screaming.

A domestic worker also said she did not hear a woman screaming, only crying.

Could be important: Roux says the closest neighbours to Pistorius did *not* hear a woman screaming, only the sounds of crying.

Another neighbour called Mike says that he heard a man crying but not screaming. Again he met them around the time that he moved into the housing estate.

While builders were finishing off the house Mike came round and spoke briefly about the work being carried out. They also chatted about cars.

They became good neighbours but didn't know each other socially.

The next door neighbour says he heard crying but not screaming.

Another neighbour said she heard crying but not screaming.

Moving back to the timings of events, Roux takes him to 4.20am dealing with state witnesses who were not called by the state.

Pistorius points out his house on a picture of the housing estate and his next door neighbour at 285.

Speaking about his relationship with his neighbour he said they moved into the estate in 2008 while the estate was still being developed.

Pistorius gave him some trees as a welcoming gift. He would drive by his children and greet him sometimes. He would chat after an absence of a long time.
