The officer touched the gun that Pistorius had in the car, causing the bullets to fall out. Pistorius lost his temper, and as they drove off he fired the gun out of the sunroof.

He says they met "on a breakfast run" when he moved to Johannesburg around seven years ago.

10.56 Aislinn Laing, our Southern Africa correspondent, has this assessment of Fresco's evidence so far.

Seems like no one is setting much store by Mr Fresco's evidence. Mr Roux has already made much of discrepancies in his statement and testimony to court of several witnesses, including the steely Michelle Burger. Mr Fresco appears to have said that he didn't read his statement again before coming to court. He's having to answer that he "can't remember" quite a lot if he can't explain the discrepancies.

It doesn't help Mr Fresco that it's been suggested in court he was driving at up to 260km an hour (the speed limit on highways is 120km, 100km on main roads) or that he was handing his gun around in a crowded restaurant.

He keeps insisting that he's telling the "truth" but he's unable to back this up with clear statements. It's clear he's been coached carefully and is angling his body away from Mr Roux towards the judge, answering questions directly to her.

He's just answered "not that I remember" when Mr Roux asked him if he didn't, as Oscar's ex-girlfriend Samantha Taylor claimed, laugh when OP fired the bullet.

Mr Fresco was told he'd be given indemnity from prosecution for gun offences if he told the truth. Fear he's treading a fine line....
