10.35 She had a gunshot wound on her upper arm and thigh. He talks rather graphically about brain tissue being mixed with hair. Pistorius was crying, saying he'd dedicate his life to God if she would only live. He said he knew quite quickly he could not revive her.

10.41 I tried to get some rest, but at 4.17 I got a call from Mr Stander (security) who told me Pistorius might be calling me about the incident. In the morning he went to work as normal and his wife rang to tell him that it was Pistorius' girlfriend that was shot.

10.40 Witness is being shown photograph's of Reeva's body but these photos are, understandably, not being shown. Our correspondent in court, Aislinn Laing, has more:

She was clenching down on Oscar's fingers as he tried to open her airway. During all that time, there was not any signs of life that I could see. Pupils were fixed and dilated and the cornea was already drying out. To me it was obvious that she was mortally wounded. I looked at the rest of her body and could see she had wounds in her right thigh and her right arm. He refers to seeing "brain tissue" through the gunshot wound to her head.

Oscar has dropped his head right down. His legal team are looking round at him worriedly. He's dropped his head and it's bobbing as his shaking hands are locked around his neck. It's almost as if he's trying to block this out.

Mr Stipp says that Oscar said "please let her live, she must not die. He was praying, saying he would dedicate his life to God if she did not die. I saw that I could not do anything for her."

11.00 As they have done every day at 12.50 (10.50 GMT) their time, they have broken for lunch. This last witness, a doctor and near neighbour of Pistorius has the clearest account of what happened of anyone in the dock so far. he was woken by the sound of shots, heard women's screams, then a man's shouts for help. He says the lights were on during this time, contrary to Pistorius' account.

We also heard some quite graphics descriptions of the state Mr Stipp found her in, which Pistorius found very difficult to listen to.

10.51 According to reporters in the courtroom, Mr Stipp's description of Reeva's wounds and residual brain matter was too much for Pistorius. He started dry heaving

10.47 Mr Stipp confirms that the heard a woman screaming moments after the shots were fired. Bathroom lights on at the time.

10.45 Mr Stipp: "Oscar stayed by her side most of the time. I remember at one stage while I was outside I was talking to Mr Stander. I noticed that Oscar was going up the stairs and I asked Mr Stander if he knew where the gun was because it was obvious that Oscar was emotionally very upset and I didn't know the situation in the house. Mr Stander said he didn't know where the gun was. A few minutes later, Oscar returned downstairs."

This witness is a lot better than Burger and her poodle

Clearly he heard two LOTS of "bangs"... and so first were the shots... then the cricket bat..... which COINCIDES with the time that Burger says she heard gunshots (3:17)... clearly she is WRONG and she heard the bat noise.

The screams could NOT possibly have been the deceased... head wound precludes her having screamed later.

12.19 The witness the defence was dreading, the intelligent doctor who was one of the first of the scebe:

Agreed MT @BBCAndrewH: Doctor's testimony - huge blow for prosecution, gives defence chance to show gunshots and cricket bat sound same.
— Aislinn Laing (@Simmoa) March 6, 2014

12.11 Roux trying again to tell teh witness that what they heard was Pistorius breaking down the door with a cricket bat, shot gun shots. Mr Stipp used to be in the military and says he is very familiar to the sound of a gun shot.

12.08 And we're back. Mr Stipp is now being cross-examined by the forbidible Roux.

12.35 Nel for the prosecution says Reeva's screams came before the fatal shots at 3.17. He agrees after the last shot she would not have been able to scream and she would have been dead

Nel: There were two sets of noises. "Our case is there were four shots in the region of 3.17." She was screaming before 3.17am. #Pistorius
— David Smith (@SmithInAfrica) March 6, 2014

12.25 Roux: "we know the door was closed - splinters from the door when the bullet passed through penetrated the deceased"

12.22 Roux: "All three specialists I consulted said that that person, after the shots, would not have been able to scream." Dr Stipp agrees. Dr Stipp seems very sure he heard male and female voices that night "intermingled".

13.00 Court had adjourned for the day, and quite an emotional day for everyone watching - hearing evidence for the first time of how Reeva was found.

12.52 Pistorius' bathroom light was on before the screaming started, he himself has said that there were no lights on as he was afraid there was an intruder in the house

12.46 Dr Stipp: "he definitely wanted her to live. He looked sincere to me, he was crying, there were tears on his face. He was actively trying to assist her, with one hand on the groin wound and another trying to help her to breathe."

12.43 Roux saying the male and female voices Dr Stipp heard were only male, and belonged to Pistorius. According to him there were no shouts from Reeva

Summary of day four

    • The defence’s Barry Roux asked witness Charl Johnson about the discrepancies between his first and second accounts of the events on the night of the murder

    • Roux suggested that the sounds Johnson heard after screams were Pistorius’s cricket bat breaking down his bathroom door, and not gunshots

    • Prosecutor Gerrie Nel concluded that Johnson had no intent to incriminate Pistorius with his initial notes and testimony

    • Roux and Nel both questioned witness Johan Stipp, Pistorius’s neighbour and a doctor, about his recollection of the sequence of events on the night of the murder

    • Roux and Nel both used photographs taken from Stipp’s bedroom, where he heard gunshots and screams the night of the murder, to determine Stipp’s vantage point

    • Roux suggested that Pistorius, anxious and distressed, could have produced the screams that Stipp identified as sounding female

    • Finally, Roux and Nel argued over whether Stipp heard shots both before and after he heard screams, as Roux looked to posit that Steenkamp was too fatally wounded to have produced the screams Stipp says he heard

7:33 Judge started the day with a harsh warning.
If anyone is seen to misbehave they will be "removed forcefully" from this court and barred, she said.

7:31 am The judge has now entered court so we should be underway shortly.

7:30 am When Pistorius arrived he was flanked by two cousins.
He has been sitting in the dock apparently scrolling through his phone while waiting for proceedings to resume.

Roux starts by asking Stipp about the time delay between shots and screams.
Stipp says it was "moments" and Roux asks him what a "moment" is.
Roux: "Moments would be, with respect, an exaggeration."
Still: "I wouldn't say it was an exaggeration.

Roux is talking about the possibility of a cricket bat sounding like gun shots.
He said there must be a reason to hit the door which was damaged the night that Reeva died.
Roux said that as Oscar was hitting the door you could not hear screaming, but shortly after that there was screaming. Roux has put to Stipp that when someone is in the toilet - a closed, confined space - you would not hear a woman screaming.
