Speaking of release dates, over a week later, apparently the dog is still chewing on Christi O'Conner's homework.

Article of interview with Mark O'Mara:

Mark O'Mara interview: No regrets defending Zimmerman, no miracle worker
January 20, 2014|By Hal Boedeker, Orlando Sentinel Staff Writer

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/201 ... von-martin

(excerpts)

Q: Is the curse that some people think you're a miracle worker?

A: Yes, people have heightened expectations. I'm not a miracle worker. I didn't turn into a miracle worker because I won a criminal case that, quite honestly, the facts show that I should have won. The fact of the case, I don't think it ever should have gone to trial. So the idea of winning it isn't such a miracle.
-=-=-=-=-=

Q: Will you move forward with a motion for sanctions against the state?

A: It's pending. It's actually more George's decision than mine. He'll let me know if he wants that done. I think he probably spent enough time in a criminal courtroom in Seminole County.
-=-=-=-=-

Q: What about the Florida Bar ethics inquiry related to how you handled the Zimmerman case?

A: It's being dismissed, and it's my understanding that's in the works. I'm not worried about it because I sort of asked them to figure out what's going on.

I can understand that George may be cautious about how and where he releases his next painting.. after all the splodey head Traybot Worriers and all the drama last time, but......

My advice to George is DO NOT announce things (twice) and then not do it.... that is a a bit "Christi O'Connor-esque" :eek

By Larry Hannan

A 65-year-old Keystone Heights man sentenced to 20 years in jail for firing shots into the ground will be getting a new trial.

Ronald Joseph Thompson had his conviction tossed out this week by Circuit Judge Don Lester. He was released pending that new trial, said Greg Newburn, director of Families Against Mandatory Minimums Florida Project....

Based on this piece in a blog it appears the case involved Angela Corey. :WW

http://reason.com/blog/2012/07/03/flori ... of-elderly

A Florida judge has ordered a new trial for Ronald Thompson, the 65-year-old disabled veteran who was sentenced to 20 years in prison under Florida's mandatory minimum law after firing two warning shots to scare off a gang of teenagers. In the meantime, the judge wants Thompson, who has already served three years of his 20 year sentence, released from prison.

Thompson's story exemplifies just how awful mandatory minimum laws can be. In 2009, he was visiting an elderly friend at her daughter's home when the woman's 17-year-old grandson arrived. The boy's mother instructed her mother (Thompson's friend) not to let the teenager, who had a history of violence, into the house. Along with three other friends, the boy tried to force his way past his grandmother into the home. Thompson, fearing for his friend's safety, fired two warning shots into the ground.

State Attorney Angela Corey charged Thompson with four counts of aggravated assault. What happened next was a nightmare for the disabled veteran:

Thanks.... that makes sense... a reason why George might want to show solidarity.

From what I've seen so far, I'm all for solidarity with George on this as well. I wonder how many more people have been tragically "sent up the river" by Corey's unethical tactics?

Considering the handful of cases we have heard about I'm sure the list is long. The woman is pure evil. I hope her and Bernie pay for their malicious prosecution of George and others.

Mark O'Mara named national criminal trial lawyer of year
By Hal Boedeker Staff writer
9:09 a.m. EST, January 22, 2014

More acclaim for Orlando attorney Mark O'Mara. The National Trial Lawyers named him the national criminal trial lawyer of the year.

O'Mara last year represented George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.

Gloria Allred received a life achievement award from the National Trial Lawyers group, which is meeting in Miami Beach. O'Mara picked up his prize Monday at the group's awards luncheon.

I don't see that WHO O'Mara has as a client necessarily reflects on his "class". It his his job to defend his client.

You can represent a "bad bastard" but maintain ethical standards, in the way you do it.

If I were given the choice, I would say thanks but no thanks, here are some people who might like to represent you.

I, personally, don't think I could handle being a defense attorney. Now, I think I would have been great as a prosecutor!! But I have to admire defense attorneys as a whole since, in the US all defendants have a right to an attorney whether or not they are guilty as sin. Those who can do it, more power to them. I'm really glad there are such people who can stand beside the guilty in a court of law and look after the guilty person's rights. This country would be in really bad shape otherwise. That said, I still detest the sleazy and unethical actions of some of them, such as Baez.

I fancy myself as a defence lawyer... hence my online person "Rumpole of The Bailey"... :)

I do believe in the "Golden Thread"... the presumption of innocence and the burden being on the prosecution to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt. I have seen too many people convicted despite reasonable doubt, and we have all seen unethical tactics by Prosecutors. It is abhorrent for innocent people to be convicted and incarcerated... and so we (the system) does err on the side of sometimes letting a guilty person go free. A competent DEFENCE is a critical part of the system. The State has huge resources and does use them at times to "go after" a defendant.
