Alan Dershowitz speaks out

State Attorney Angela Corey, the prosecutor in the George Zimmerman case, recently called the Dean of Harvard Law School to complain about my criticism of some of her actions. She was transferred to the Office of Communications and proceeded to engage in a 40 minute rant, during which she threatened to sue Harvard Law School, to try to get me disciplined by the Bar Association and to file charges against me for libel and slander.

She said that because I work for Harvard and am identified as a professor she had the right to sue Harvard. When the communications official explained to her that I have a right to express my opinion as “a matter of academic freedom,” and that Harvard has no control over what I say, she did not seem to understand. She persisted in her nonstop whining, claiming that she is prohibited from responding to my attacks by the rules of professional responsibility—without mentioning that she has repeatedly held her own press conferences and made public statements throughout her career.

Her beef was that I criticized her for filing a misleading affidavit that willfully omitted all information about the injuries Zimmerman had sustained during the “struggle” it described. She denied that she had any obligation to include in the affidavit truthful material that was favorable to the defense. She insisted that she is entitled to submit what, in effect, were half truths in an affidavit of probable cause, so long as she subsequently provides the defense with exculpatory evidence. She should go back to law school, where she will learn that it is never appropriate to submit an affidavit that contains a half truth, because a half truth is regarded by the law as a lie, and anyone who submits an affidavit swears to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Z. has been found lying to the Seminol County Sheriff's Office. Not sure what that was for - applying for a gun permit to carry/concealed? Not sure. I can send that link.

Above link ~ the requirements to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon, and also the reasons they will NOT give you a permit for a gun. Some might lie then. Start reading maybe #7 ... on.

I know Z. had some brushes with the law. Not sure how they were resolved. I think his mother worked for the Courts. Can't hurt. "It's not what you know, but WHO you know." they say.

Sure "Credibility" will be something for the JURY to take into consideration... but Everybody's credibility!!!!

Do ya think Dee Dee will be a STAR prosecution witness? The Girl can barely string a sentence together.. and I doubt she remembers what she heard on the phone 5 minutes ago... do ya think her "memory" will be up to scrutiny a year or so down the track?

And if the jury have doubts about parts of GZ testimony... WHAT testimony takes it's place? Trayvon's version? Who decides what that is? Crump? Jessie Jackson? Al Sharpton?

GZ is the ONLY person who can say what happened.. he (may or) may not be totally believed.. but in the absence of any OTHER testimony.. his version has to be a large part of the narrative.

Was it drunk driving - not speeding? I thought I remember reading that too?? Treatment for that too?

We can't isolate one incident can we? It's the whole picture that makes the "man", for all of us I think.
Add the most recent - lying to the Court under oath. Lying to the Sheriff's Dept. too.

I think he's bad business. MHO Do you like/trust him?

Whether I like him or not... is not relevant... it might be relevant if some jurors dislike him.. and let that effect their view of the evidence??

Who knows.....

Do you think EVERY witness will need to be free of dismissed speeding tickets? (or worse)

Perhaps every juror also?

Perhaps the judge and all the lawyers?

I have not HEARD GZ version of events yet. I don't KNOW whether his testimony will ring true or not... but I will NOT be swayed at all by the imaginary previous "criminal acts"

I have heard all the phone calls... NEN and the 911 calls.... seen the other evidence.. photos etc...I don't see WHY GZ was charged with ANYTHING!!!

Scares me though that his mother worked for the Courts. She might have some pull there... friends?

And his father, retired Magistrate Judge. That might have been in another state. Still probably some level of "respect", etc.

I swore I would never ever get involved in another case again, after the "verdict" of Casey Anthony. Many of us probably did.

Judge Andrew Napolitano weighed in on the fact that during his original bond hearing, Zimmerman’s wife failed to disclose information about money they had earned through a website soliciting donations. Napolitano said, “He’s being punished because of what his wife said. Now, the prosecution will say, ‘Well, he shouldn’t have sat there silently while the wife gave improper and incorrect information to the judge.’” The judge pointed out that because it’s a criminal case, Zimmerman never has to say anything.

He said, “Bail should be revoked because of behavior of the defendant after bail has been granted, not because of some facts that came to light that the government should have known about before bail was granted.”

I don't understand why people think he is not a flight risk. When L.E. took his passport, he quickly lied to the passport place - and said he "lost his" and got another one. At that time then, he had two active ones. Why does he act "slick" like that? Lied to the passport people?

The new one is in effect now, as the other one expired maybe 1 month or so after the killing.

We learned a lot about Trayvon ... and now we are learning a lot about G. Zimmerman.

I was feeling the same thing.

It's d**n ugly isn't it.

I find it more incredibly stupid.

A simple common case... all TOO common.. whipped up into an international News Story.

And we don't have the evidence YET!!!!!!

There is no case at all based on what we have seen.. and I suspect no case at all.....period!
