h/t Patterico's Pontifications - the link goes to Aaron's blog*:

25.I have been going through the Tampa Bay Times’ database of supposedly “stand your ground cases.” if you follow this link you will get the third installment of that analysis.

Of particular interest is the Murdock case, where a black man shot an unarmed white man… and was never even charged with a crime. Basically he was treated like Zimmerman, with a little custodial interrogation and then when they felt good about the story they let him go… only in Zimmerman’s case, there was a racist uproar, while in Murdock’s case, there wasn’t. So Murdock has lived a relatively normal life since then and Zimmerman was still charged anyway, put through a ridiculous trial, might face federal charges and might very well get lynched.

If anyone listens to Glenn Beck on the radio, or wants to hear his perspective, he's starting his 1st show after the verdict (vacation last week) with Zimmerman. If your local radio station doesn't carry his show, you can listen online.

Edit to add: If your local station doesn't carry Rush and you're interested in listening to his radio show, I found this link to listen online. Of course, I can't guarantee Rush will talk about the case again today, but he certainly heavily covered it last week.

Wow! Thanks, JG!

Edit to add: So we don't know for sure yet exactly what all was released or to whom, but we can make an educated guess. ;) And since the release receipt dates are 7/16 and 7/17/2013, the release was before the DOJ made a show of asking the evidence not be released.

The evidence release reminds me of something I've been meaning to bring up. If you read my posts, you know I'm a fan of RZjr, and I hope he continues public speaking and/or hopefully gets his own platform to comment on many topics.

In one of his post-verdict interviews, RZjr said he hopes that GZ will "destroy" the gun he used [to save his own life]. I have mixed feelings about that, obviously. What do you think?

I'm not keen on that particular gun for use as a firearm per se, but it is a valuable artifact that can very likely be sold for lots more than the purchase price. Also, I doubt that GZ's lawyers will permit destruction or disposal until all potential litigation is resolved.

Good points that I hadn't considered, JG, thanks. :)

Edit to add: I guess to me it boils down to how you look at what happened. I believe GZ shot to save his own life. I do not believe he shot to kill anyone.

To be clear(ish) - I believe GZ's goal was to stop the beating that he was certain would at some point soon cause him great harm and/or death. I do not believe he pulled out his gun and thought anything beyond that, and certainly didn't think about killing anyone. If his goal was to kill, he'd have emptied his gun, or at least fired more than one shot, imo.

"When we signed on to do reality shows that fed into the media's stereotypes of black men, we ingrained an image of Trayvon Martin so overwhelming that who he actually may have been didn't matter"

Actually, acceptance and glorification of the thug lifestyle by the media and thug music helped to create Trayvon, not stereotype him.

I find it hard to believe "Trayvoning" is any kind of widespread "trend" - more like they're hoping to make it one so they can point (more) fingers, imo:

Anyone doing this is twisted, and not in a good way, imo. But it would not surprise me at all to discover this was astroturf, which would make it even sicker.

Exactly! :87

And his gang member, low involvement, Traydad™ really sealed that deal.

Our kids aren't and weren't (for the now adults) allowed to listen to thug music, or to idolize that lifestyle. Not that it was a fight, or anything, because by the time they reached an age to be interested, their values were pretty much set. But a lot of their friends listen to "rap" and some is even played at school, so there is/was an interest in "rap", at least certain popular "raps" but it's not allowed here.

Yeah, I exercised draconian control of my son's music, TV, internet, circle of friends and mode of dress since he was small. He now has a biochemistry degree and is halfway through an MBA and remains thug and hip hop music free.

If they really wanted to do something productive, Justice For Trayvon could lobby against thug music and the media glorification of the sizzurp slurping thugging gang banging lifestyle. Instead, Tracy tweets about listening to Trick Daddy thug music.

How the Media Has Distorted a Tragedy

A week after George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the fatal shooting of black teenager Trayvon Martin, the backlash continues, with nationwide protests and calls to boycott Florida. President Obama spoke some undeniable truths when he noted that the African-American community’s reaction must be seen in the context of a long, terrible history of racism. But there is another context too: that of an ideology-based, media-driven false narrative that has distorted a tragedy into a racist outrage.

This narrative has transformed Zimmerman, a man of racially mixed heritage that included white, Hispanic and black roots (a grandmother who helped raise him had an Afro-Peruvian father), into an honorary white male steeped in white privilege. It has cast him as a virulent racist even though he once had a black business partner, mentored African-American kids, lived in a neighborhood about 20 percent black, and participated in complaints about a white police lieutenant’s son getting away with beating a homeless black man.

This narrative has perpetuated the lie that ...

I think it needs to be seen in the context of a long, terrible history of crippling entitlement programs and race-baiting.
