In order for the DOJ division of the BGI to be involved, it has to be a hate crime investigation. No allegation of racial animus, no DOJ investigation. I suspect that the DOJ is attempting to protect Scheme Team by continuing an open investigation of GZ past the two year statute of limitations for defamation. The statute of limitations for wrongful death is also two years, but Scheme Team didn't start the media BS campaign until a few days after Trayvon was shot. If Scheme Team sues GZ for wrongful death, they risk paying a ton of money for his attorneys fees and costs pursuant to FS 776.032(3). GZ can wait out the wrongful death limitations period and then sue Scheme Team.

You lost me there. How does an investigation prevent GZ from filing a lawsuit for defamation?

It deters filing because discovery, such as a deposition, from the civil case could be used against GZ in a criminal case.

Another useful feature of an ongoing investigation is that it keeps the FBI investigation filings confidential pursuant to the "ongoing investigation" exception. This could also be of assistance to Scheme Team, in the event that the FBI files contained information helpful to GZ.

How long has this been going on? And, still, I am sitting here being incredulous (hmm, grammar?) that they can lie and lie and lie. I was totally blown away tonight by Traymom saying (I don't even know on which show) that the B37 juror could not even say she related to the teenagers and their "culture", like it was some kind of racist thing. When the real reason is it is a low life culture of sex, drugs, violence and hate. How can you relate to that if you are not of that culture? Why would you want to? Where am I? Who am I? What am I doing? Maybe sleep will bring back some degree of sanity. Maybe not. Okay, another glass of wine. Then sleep.

I REALLY want the facts about TM to come out. So for once I agree with Tray Parents. They may or may not come out in some civil trial... but that may never happen, or take a long time.

I understand how the immunity law is supposed to protect Zimmerman from civil suits. But Holder wouldn't be pushing so hard for them if he didn't have some strategy in mind to bypass or supersede or just plain confront the Florida law. That point of view has been expressed by some of the talking head tv lawyers, whose opinions seemed to be you never know what's going to happen until a judge rules on whatever is being presented.
