Judge Nelson says the question asks for clarification for the instructions regarding manslaughter.

The attorneys approach for a sidebar.

5:52 p.m.
Court is reconvening for a jury question.

That means at least one doesn't buy self-defense?

I don't like that.

If they don't think Zimmerman intended to kill, why aren't they buying self-defense?

Are they trying for a comprise?

I fear they'll deliver a verdict and then when they get back to their lives and find out both the sentence and perhaps a much better definition of manslaughter, they'll be thinking "That's not what we had in mind".

Scheaffer says doesn't sound good but he's had cases where jury came with similar questions then acquitted.

I wouldn't panic yet. I would guess that there is disagreement. It may be to clarify for those who want to make a point in the argument with the others.

I don't really believe that all six are going to disregard self defense. I still hold that belief. This just makes me think if they can't convince the other parties that manslaughter isn't met that we could end up with a hung jury. That is my hope.

Or at least one is trying to argue that we can't let just him go when he was so negligent in killing this 17 year old.

Like I said on the other thread it may just be that some are trying to convince who ever it is who doesn't want to go with Not Guilty that manslaughter still wasn't met beyond a reasonable doubt. That is my hope. So at worst we would get a hung jury.

Whatever happens... it's disappointing that 6 people can't see through this farce.

The State put on a very poor case... which actually proved GZ's innocence beyond reasonable doubt..... and proving his GUILT beyond a reasonable doubt was not even in the distance. ANY jury should have acquitted within minutes.

If it's only one confused about the law, maybe the others will be able to explain/show her. We can hope.

Where is self-defense on the form? Are they going in order?

Ok - maybe jurors want manslaughter question; defense arguing must also give self-defense instruction; both sides looking for support.

Judge Alex just said on Fox that if they are going by the jury instruction they would have first looked at Murder 2, then Manslaughter, you don't get to Self Defense until the end of it. Although he did point out they might not have followed that instruction and that O'Mara had asked them to start with Self Defense.

So they might just be going in order of the jury instruction and haven't gotten to self defense yet. Seems odd to me but I do remember Not Guilty was the last one listed.
