Zimmerman Trial: State's Closing Argument
By Jeralyn, Section Crime in the News

Excerpt
Quote:
My thoughts on the first half: De La Rionda is making the defense case. His theme is assumptions. He starts with it and continues to repeat the theme throughout his argument. He says it's all about the unwarranted assumptions the defendant made.

But it's apparent what he is really asking the jury to do is find Zimmerman guilty based on assumptions the state has made -- both about Zimmerman's assumptions and state of mind.

By overusing the word assumptions, which will resonate in the mind of the jurors, I think they are more likely to use the same word when deliberating about reasonable doubt? If they have to rely on assumptions, the state hasn't met its burden of proof.

The Trayvon Martin Case, Update 33.2: The Defense Rests; The Prosecution Runs Headlong Into A Brick Wall

I was about to write that the prosecution is probably thanking its lucky stars that it has a judge like Nelson on this case. But I suspect they knew that the minute she picked up the case when the original judge was removed for obvious anti-Zimmerman bias. With a few exceptions, primarily decisions so clear in the law that she had no other choice than to grant defense motions, Nelson has demonstrated remarkable and blatant pro-prosecution bias. Many of those egregiously foolish decisions may very well constitute reversible error should George Zimmerman be convicted, but taken as a whole they stagger the mind.

The timeline destroys the narrative. (All times taken from the Defense timeline exhibit.)

7:11:40 (GZ): "He's running"

(Per Rachel Jeantel (RJ) testimony, Martin indicated his desire to run, and started running, before the penultimate call disconnected)

7:11:47 (RJ): Call disconnects

7:11:48 (GZ): (Zimmerman is out of car, has lost sight of Martin, indicates he ran toward back entrance)

7:11:57 (GZ): "We don't need you to do that" "Okay"

7:12:06 (RJ): Call reconnects

(Per RJ testimony, Martin had run to literally right by Brandi Green's home - Please, O'Mara, hammer this point), and had lost Zimmerman

7:12:07 (GZ): Zimmerman stops walking, is standing on the sidewalk at Retreat View Circle. States he doesn't know where Martin went.

(This is the significant point, right here. Zimmerman is standing on the sidewalk, at Retreat View Circle. Martin is standing outside Brandi Green's home, 380 feet south. Both GZ and TM claim that Martin has "lost" Zimmerman.)

After 7:12:06 and before 7:15:43: Per RJ testimony, Martin continues walking (he was right outside Brandi Green's home; where is he going?), and is talking low while doing so (he's already "lost" Zimmerman, and ostensibly doesn't know Zimmerman ever even got out of his vehicle. Why is he talking "low"?)

7:13:40 (GZ): NEN call ends. Zimmerman is still standing on the sidewalk at Retreat View Circle.

7:15:43 (RJ): Rachel Jeantel call drops

7:16:10: Jenna Lauer 911 call connects

Wow! Great work, Chip! No doubt it destroys the narrative. Thanks for posting. I hope we hear it in closing tomorrow.

Once again a big thank you to all for the play-by-play and feedback, enabling me to quickly catch up on the day's events while taking care of 2 toddlers and an old woman with bronchitis (that would be me!).

This forum is the watermelon drink in the Trayborg desert! ;)

Similar to the info Chip brought to us yesterday about CRS involvement:

MikeMcDaniel wrote:
George Zimmerman: Public Enemy #1

It has been known from the beginning that the Federal Department of Justice under Eric Holder has had an active role in the George Zimmerman case. The FBI race hunt that turned up nothing but evidence that George Zimmerman is the opposite of a racist is only one example, yet it may not be at all off the mark to think Zimmerman public enemy #1, at least as far as the federal government is concerned.

Well, they have to wrap this thing up while the people at the convention are there to march and riot. I don't think the people in the sleepy little town of Sanford have too much interest in tearing up their town. That is, except for NatJac's mother, Francis. The rest have to be imported. :78

Protesters at the courthouse were passing out flyers telling protesters to protest at Orlando attractions, not Sanford. What is wrong with these people? They got what they wanted, now they want more.

Hi, auscitizenmom! Once again, dots I did not connect, even though someone posted in the trial thread about planned protests, threats to protest at amusement parks, etc. I'll try to find that post.
