Sybrina lied. She said Tracy never told her he had listened to the tape before the meeting in the Mayor's office where a huge group was present and all listened to it at the same time. I know where Mom is going with that.

Of course Jean would say that. Why would a jury avoid looking at her out of respect? That makes no sense. Who knows what it means? First 2 witness for the defense is also a family of color - brown. Loved the Deputy brother. He looks like a true Latino grandee.
At least, Fred has the courage to expose his blog and posters for all to read while CW and JQ are still hiding away. Loving Don West. He is just great and O'Mara too.
Oops, the Traybot ladies on HLN are hysterical. :51 :51

Zimmerman Trial Day 9 — Families Feud Over Scream Identification
Posted by Andrew Branca Friday, July 5, 2013 at 7:15pm

Today began with the expectation that it would the the day on which the State rested its case. That proved true, and it was. It was also among the most bizarre and disturbing days of a lengthy trial full to the brim with bizarre and disturbing days.

Thanks Taurus.

I missed Sabrina live... just watched replay vid.

So..... I saw Gladys Zimmerman before I saw Sabrina.

WHAT A CONTRAST!!!!! :eek

Sabrina was so obviously FALSE... even before she spoke.. her appearance is completely different from what the Jury have seen in court.... and that is already a "front" as part of the Scheme Team "Made for TV Family"

Her answers were evasive... and contained ridiculous lies. For instance.. claim she had no idea what was on the tape? Tracy never talked about it? That is clearly nonsense.

Gladys was genuine as was the Uncle. A family with class contrasted against a classless bunch of schemers.

George Zimmerman Trial: State Rests, Court Denies Motion to Aquit
By Jeralyn, Section Crime in the News
Posted on Fri Jul 05, 2013 at 03:15:24 PM EST

The state has finished its case. The defense argued its Motion for Judgment of Acquittal. The state responded. The judge denied the motion, saying only that the state had provided sufficient evidence for the charge to go to the jury. See, for example, the 2012 Florida Supreme Court opinion in Patrick v. State.

The defense argues that because the state's evidence as to ill will, hatred, or spite is entirely circumstantial, the state's evidence must disprove any reasonable hypothesis of innocence.

Defense Opens With George Zimmerman's Mother
By Jeralyn, Section Crime in the News
Posted on Fri Jul 05, 2013 at 04:19:33 PM EST

The defense calls Gladys Zimmerman, George Zimmerman's mother, as its first witness. She identifies George as the person screaming in the background of Jenna Lauer's 911 call. She is not asked anything else

[...]

Update: Mark O'Mara at today's after court press-conference: They have expert testimony on Martin's marijuana use they will try to get in. He said the judge's ruling was not final. The defense will also seek to introduce evidence concerning Martin's fighting. They will have more witnesses on whose voice is heard screaming. He said he was surprised the state opted not to call certain family members and law enforcement officers who were heavily involved in the case. He mentioned the state's decision not to introduce good character evidence about Trayvon so as not to open the door to contrary character evidence the defense would then introduce. It sounds like he will be taking Benjamin Crump's deposition this weekend. He said they have 3 or 4 scheduled and Crump's has not yet been taken.

**#Bao I cannot answer if I do not know. And I may not answer if I do know. And that is just my opinion.

Looks like the sentiment on this case has drastically changed. I'm seeing talking heads on the TV news/online news and most are saying that the state did not prove 2nd degree to any doubt much less reasonable doubt. They all feel the judge will allow the lesser charge of manslaughter but most are agreeing the only way GZ is convicted of manslaughter is for the jury to ignore self defense.

Oh my! Two posts above this one is the photo of Corey and Traymom™ posted by Rumpole. Ok, clear your mind for a sec, look up at that photo and tell me which one of those women looks like a victim's mother? To me, Corey looks like she's in tears, while Traymom™ is confident, smiling.

Racialized prosecutorial indiscretion in the Zimmerman case

Considering the wonderful job Andrew Branca has done covering the George Zimmerman trial, I’ve been relegated to something approaching potted plant status here.

It ain’t broke, so I ain’t gonna fix that. But I will weigh in with my own thoughts on the case and the trial.

As you know, I covered the case from the inception, focusing on the racial narratives and media mishandling of “evidence” leaked or revealed in court filings.

I’ve also listened to almost all of the trial, and those parts I missed because of my relocation I’ve accounted for through Andrew’s coverage.

My overall impression of the trial doesn’t really deviate from my overall impression of the pre-trial phase: This is a case which never should have been brought, and would not have been brought except for racial politics.

Florida prosecutors made an initial decision not to prosecute after the police investigation. Those prosecutors did what prosecutors should do, take a disinterested and dispassionate view of the evidence in determining whether the state could prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

:Gslap There is a post at Mediaite (no, I won't link it) by someone I view as a total hack (no, I won't give his name either). I almost quoted some of it in the Daft Thread but he accidentally brought to mind a good point we mentioned yesterday. Remember the state objecting every time West mentioned blood or toxicology? Even the Mediaite dimwit Trayborg™ saw what was going on -- West was hammering on the toxicology that at this point, the jurors won't see. The jurors may notice there is no toxicology report after West going through in painstaking detail with Bao exactly how the toxicology was done. The jurors may wonder why the toxicology was hidden from them. Does anyone think they'll assume the reason it was hidden was because it was clean or only contained a small amount of THC?

Remember also the Streisand Effect. BDLR jumping up and drawing attention to the word "toxicology" and the judge reciting a pre-trial ruling is only going to reinforce West's tactic.

Well played, West. :)
