They're picking 6 jurors and 4 alternates.

The court usually picks 2 alternates, but that number had been doubled for this trial.

Very slooooow going...considering that this is only one phase in the questioning.

I'm glad the defense has a very good jury consultant. One of the best from what I have heard.

Hello, everyone! :27

Juror B55 is a 20-something Asian woman who got her news from Facebook.

Kathi Belich, WFTV KBelichWFTV 43s
Missing a family vacation in India and Dubai later this month! 2/2 #Zimmermanon9

She is a student. She says she paid no attention to the case because it didn't concern her. Shevis concerned about 1/2

B55 says she just took finals and isn't in summer classes, but might have to take a trip to Dubai later this month.

Now the defense is questioning B55, a student. Quick turnaround. #Zimmermanon9

Potential juror B55 is hands down the youngest questioned so far.

They are said to be good friends. It's astounding how there isn't even an attempt to show professionalism or ethics.

Of yesterday's jurors summoned, 40 were dismissed just based on questionanaires. One, the 65-year-old hard of hearing man, was dismissed too.

B2 is a middle aged woman. She went straight to the bench.

Juror #B65 is up. Church lady. Bernie slips and asks if her "prayers were for the victi- oops, Trayvon Martin...." :roll
No cable, no internet.

She has lived in Central Florida for 16 years and heard the name Zimmerman for the first time yesterday.

She says she has heard about case through her pastor. She says she's prayed for both families, knows nothing about the case.

West is not the most warm and fuzzy person--although I think he is a great lawyer!--so maybe they thought that O'Mara would connect better with the potential jurors while questioning them.

This is what I was thinking. West's line of questioning was done really well, yet he came off as kind of a hard ass. Could effect minority jurors negatively based on their preconceived notions of the case.

I agree with these opinions. West looks like, "the man." In the fullest sense of the term. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and his questioning of the jurors is not the place he is best utilized. (he was brilliant with the voice recognition experts!)

DangerMauz - you do a great job with the updates!! :give

Oops, spoke too soon about Don West!! He should not be interviewing church ladies - especially like this one who gets ALL her information from her AA church.

George is thankfully looking a bit more engaged today - writing about the jurors and actually looking at them - baby steps, I guess.

Same to you, appreciate it. You end up missing so much even though you try to listen to it all, lol.

Yeah, interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if this lady gets tossed by the defense. Gets all her information from church, says they prayed for both parties but only heard Zimmerman's name yesterday, saw church members wearing Martin clothes in church.

You're right about not seeing everything - I like the mix of the different reporters (as long as they sound impartial - lol) - that's why it's good to experience the different sources all of us utilize for our information.

eta - Diane Tennis and Richard Hornsby provide good comic commentary! :84

In my experience, these church ladies are intractable with their opinions (minds thoroughly mixed like concrete) and do and think EVERYTHING the pastor wants them to do or think. Especially if she has no TV or any other source for information!

I'm afraid there are going to be many more like her. :(

Sorry, but I cannot believe with 18/20 yo sons that she knows nothing of TM. :roll

eta - maybe they are using West on some to "scare" them into telling the truth? :Gslap

I doubt it is anything like a genuine friendship.

It is probably more of a "quid pro quo" arrangement. She keeps bringing questionable cases to court to enhance his lawsuits and he delivers the black vote to her.

I'll be surprised if the potential jurors aren't asked about all of the rumors and fact of Corey's questionable behavior. Some of the taint has to trickle down to her choice of cases and tactics.

flareon - yes, they are not "friends" in the true sense of the word - "quid pro quo" is a good way to describe its more likely meaning.

There are so many avenues of questionable behavior by SO MANY of those involved, they would be spending a full day on each potential juror. This case disgusts me!

Not only that, but almost every murder case I hear about in the inner cities seem to have the child or grandchild being from a intensive church going home and yet still commits the most despicable crimes. And in the next breath the family members blame the police.

I think many of these people are highly influenced by the victim mentality and racist proclamations.
