Willmott: Do children who grow up in abusive families always turn out abusive? Martinez won't let her answer. We break for the day.

Sidebar: Martinez is leaning in and shaking his head and a finger. Stephens leans her forehead against her fist as she listens to Willmott.

7:45 p.m. ET: Judge Stephens has recessed court until 1:45 p.m. ET Wednesday.

7:23 p.m. ET: LaViolette said there is no way for researchers to know if people who grow up in abusive families become abusers.

Tomorrow morning in a different court room, a different judge will hear argument on a motion sealing costs of trial. In Session contested.

Missed you today, Joni! But yeah, you didn't miss much. I suspect that you, like me, didn't need to sit through the Abuser Tutorial that the good doctor LaViolette gave today.

Rumpole: I think one of your humble research assistants (Remote?) may wish to delve into checking out the license of the current psychotherapist expert witness. There's a supported rumor that the California license of the alleged expert witness has been cancelled. California has her listed as a psychological assistant rather than a psychologist & the alleged licensed psychologist whose license she works under had his license revoked. Since she's only allowed to practice under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist or board certified psychiatrist, I'm hoping the prosecutor Juan Martinez challenges her but I'm worried this tactic may be an attempt to motion for mistrial. Have you heard any such rumors & what do you think of the probability it's accurate or has a bearing upon the trial?

70s, I read something of what you mentioned above. I do believe I then read that it had been debunked, but now that you mention it, I will see what I can dig up about the subject.

This is what I've found so far, 70s. I will keep looking for what I read about the rumors and hopefully post tomorrow.

M.A.s – MFCCs – LCSWs – LMFC – MFTI – MFCI – LPC

In California and most, if not all, other states, there are also those counselors or therapists who practice with a license known as the MFCC (Marriage, Family and Child Counseling license), or LMFC (Licensed Marriage Family Counselor, or LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)., or MFT. So, what we have here is a situation where the following all mean literally the same thing: MFCC, LMFC and LMFT and MFT all indicate that some one is licensed to practice as a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor.

In all the states (I believe) which offer such a license, a Master’s level (M.A. or M.S.) degree is the maximum education required.

No that's been cleared up.

She has never been a licensed psychologist in California, just an assistant under Charles Thomas Stockton until his license was revoked. Anyone could work as a 'mental health professional' in CA with no particular education or training at all, but she didn't become a licensed Marriage & Family Counselor until 1992. As you heard from her testimony, the grant money was there to pay her for that project she described--getting men reduced prison time in exchange for counseling--until the money ran out.

Thanks Taurus.

So how the dickens can she be recognised as a expert by courts? She said 18 times I think from memory?

I assume that Martinez will question her credentials before she is accepted this time? And stress her lack of credentials to the jury if she is accepted.

Good morning Rumpole,

I'll have to go back and check my notes, but I seem to recall she did get a license for marriage counciling or something similar.

I have faith in Juan that he is on top of this.

I do recall that she hasn't done any counciling since 2008 and now does lots of lecture appearances, etc. Her resume lists every tea and coffee hour she has ever attended.

To answer my own question. It seems often courts in some jurisdictions set very low standards for somebody to be declared an "expert"... and once you get a foot on that gravy train... you can keep citing previous instances in order to get accepted in the next court.... as we are seeing here.
The notion of Jodi suffering from "battered wife" syndrome is ludicrous IMO.. and it detracts from real cases... that Alyce Laviolette should be aware of. I'd go so far as to say she is doing a disservice to the sort of clients she claims to have cared for in the past.

( Nice to "bump into you" Taurus.. but I was about to head off to bed.... see you at the trial tomorrow perhaps?) :give

Agree, the consenses seems to be that.

She may find that she has put herself in a position to receive a lot of backlash.

The person I know that was in court yesterday sat beside a friend of Alice's and he told her that Alice was afraid to testify in this case. So I think she is aware of what's at stake.

I understand that Alice can only speak of general terms about Travis as she as never interviewed him.

Jodi Arias trial: Attorneys don't want you to know where taxpayer money spent on defense is going

Jodi Arias’ attorneys do not want you know where the taxpayer money spent on her defense is going.

Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott filed paperwork asking a judge to “seal any and all billing records submitted by any member of Ms. Arias’ defense team…”

the total amount spent on her defense team has been roughly $838,000 and continues to climb.

The cost only pertains to money spent on Arias’ attorneys and does not include jail or court costs.

But Arias’ attorneys want a judge to issue a protective order guarding the detailed costs of Arias’ defense.

Arias’ lawyers argue releasing the information could impact attorney-client privilege and Arias’ right to a fair trial.

According to the paperwork , “If the State is allowed to view or access these records the State may be able to determine what witnesses, both expert and civilian, the defense has interviewed and not listed as witnesses in any phase of the trial as they attempt to develop a viable defense.”

They go on to argue the information would provide “a window into the thought and process of the defense team.”

I didn't watch all of this woman's testimony but regardless of her credentials or lack of them, any opinion she comes up with is based on her conversations with the lying Jodi. Like the bozo looking fruitcake whose hand seemed to disappear below the desk every time jodi batted her eyes at him, the opinion and reports of these paid whores is only good for bunwad.

I don't care if Jodi gets the DP but I would like to see LWOP but in a 23hr lockdown facility with no contact with other inmates. This may put a crimp in her sexlife which I'm sure is still active. From the look of those pics of her, it appears her rear end has had more traffic than the Holland Tunnel.
