She looks so sweet. I wanted my next dog to be a cocker. When I started looking, I found a Cocker/Dachshund mix. I think she has the best features of both. She isn't very friendly with others, actually she is terrible, but she is so cute people don't seem to hold it against her. Her previous owner had had her for about 4 years and then she died and Foxy and her sister were sent to the pound. Then they were separated. I felt so sad for her. But, I knew I had to have her the minute I saw her picture on a rescue site. She is a great companion for me, independent enough to be on her own some, but snuggly as a cat.

We dog owners seem to be fairly well tolerated here.

We're all dog lovers!! (except Rumpole :21 )

Sorry to hear about Snuggles. She sounds like she was wonderful dog.

I had a neighbor who had a Cocker Spaniel. I adored it and it adored me. The neighbor was so surprised. He said Cockers are usually 1 person dogs and his dog wasn't usually friendly, not even to family members.

R.I.P. sweet Snuggles. :NN1 I am a dog lover too ... but last year rescued my Lilly, the Norwegian Forest Cat.
She is sooo funny. Tears around the place once in awhile.
Has more FUN with a box ... any box... every box. :6
Her latest "catch" seems to be a long green bean. I think that is her prey or something. I don't have the heart to take it away from her - yet. Started yesterday! So much fun!!! :31

I wanted to ask, but we were in the wrong thread (Off Topic). I'll get called to Rumpole's office for punishment! :34

Is Foxy a male or female?

:46 I'm losing it. I read Foxy's story a few posts up! :11

I adopted all my dogs, except for my current one, a Maltese. I was trying to adopt a Pekingese I saw online, but things kept going wrong (application never received, etc.) and then one day I took my cat to the vet. The vet walked past my room with 2 (Maltese) puppies, saw how I reacted and came in and put them in my arms. I told her I had a friend with a Maltese and I adored them. She said that the breeder was in the next room and the puppies were available. She'd been the breeder's vet for ages and he took great care of his dogs. And I already was in love with them... So, I wound up buying my first puppy! :89

Mal you asked IF I gave Lilly her bath yet.
Well, today I had an appointment for her at the Holistic Vet. I tried to get her into this tote bag I have
with a zipper across the top. She CLUNG onto the back of my chair ... fighting for dear life!! I thought "Oh boy - a bath?" NOT ME!

Somehow with all the scuffling, I felt pain across the bridge of my nose and felt something very warm running
down my nose/face. I went to wash it off... all blood down my face! Another cut too at the tip of my nose.
It happened SO fast ... I have no idea how this came down!
At the Vet's, she saw another cat go past the glass window. I didn't KNOW my Lilly knew how to hiss. The Vet said that's what that was!!! Then they were clipping her nails for me, and I heard it again!! More hissing ... MY LILLY???

Anyhow, not knowing if that Dr. on the stand has reached ONE juror ... and my 2 scratches on my face that the Vet said to WATCH and call the Dr. if it looks like any trouble, plus daily trouble here in River City as
usual ~
It's Been A Hard Day's Night :DN4 NO BATH! :6

I"m sorry Joni! I hope you are okay. I would put neosporin on it, if you have it. I was scratched a lot during Tiger's bath. Not done visciously, just from his fear.

I believe the hissing is also from fear. A way for them to frighten off whatever/whoever is scaring/threatening them. They can also spit and make a weird gutteral growling-type noise!! He's hissed and growled at me several times after taking him to the vet, but he's gotten better. I have a cushion in the carrier and he hides under it at the vet. I don't remove him from the carrier, I just remove the top half. He feels safer this way. The vet treats him with the cushion on top of him! It's been a great help. (Unfortunately, my vet moved to the next town and there is a new vet at the place near my home. I'm torn. I've been buying food and treats at the new vet and still having Kacie groomed there, because it's so close, but I'm trying to decide if I am going to continue seeing my previous vet at her new place. I really liked her. She's the best vet I've had since I moved to Florida and she's the one who put Kacie in my arms a short time after she was born. The new vet is very nice too. :40 :95

MM I wonder who is truly better? Can you research the Vets? Which school did they graduate from?
Which school is better? Find reviews? (I think I wrote about that part before.)

Well, the breeder I got Kacie from swears by the female vet. She saved the life of a very sick Maltese he had. She used to work at a location close to where he lived (about an hour away) and when she moved up here, he followed.

I read a bio of the new vet's experience and I have some doubts. I guess if she has Saturday hours, I can continue using her, but if not, it will be difficult to follow her.

Just checked her website. She's the owner of the new place, so hopefully she won't be moving again. (The vet clinic I've been going to since I moved here has had a revolving door of vets. She was here for 3 years, which was great.) And she works Saturdays! I'll call for an appointment for my babies shots. (I still want to buy treats and food at other place...it's so close to the house. Hope they won't mind!)

MM which one is the female Vet? The new one?

I always like a broad picture of things ... not only my exposure to the situation/person.
Then I weigh that in with how I "feel" about things...

Age is another thing. Hard to tell. Younger one not as much experience ... but maybe newer things in school?

Is there continuing Vet schooling? I think Drs. have that and some do it, and some don't. I forget what that is called. It is keeping up with the LATEST of everything. I like that!

Sorry! New vet is male, previous vet (for past 5 years, my mistake) is female. When I went for routine visits (not needing her services), she was usually on the computer doing research. My Chiropractor does this also. Always keeping up and learning as much as they can.

I think the male vet is younger, but don't know much about him. I vaguely reading that he worked at a place that sold puppies/pets, which doesn't please me. I've read a lot about how store puppies usually come from puppy mills. (He may have taken good care of them.)

They are both very nice. :95

I checked LinkedIn.

He graduated as a DVM in 2008. (This is where it mentions the different "Pet Boutiques" he worked for and a few clinics. No where near the experience she has.)
She graduated as a DVM in 1996. Was at my location 5 years and there other location 5 years.
