You are definitely not the only one wondering why all the bogging down of unimportant minutiae. They've pretty well already established her being a massive liar, so why go back to her high school days to further prove it?? She's admitted to the murder.

I read that there were technical problems in the courtroom this afternoon, so that may be when you heard the Judge object...he wanted JM to stop questioning JA until the issues were fixed.

I read today that the reason Juan Martinez (JM) was jumping all over the place in his questioning is because of her pathological lying. It's a way of tripping her up and throwing her off balance.

During the trial, HLN has a live blog (sort of like tweets) of the happenings in the courtroom. I happened to sneak a peak at it at work at that moment and the blogger explained it. (Something about FTP recordings not working in the courtroom??? Whatever that is. )

I heard "Matt" is the one she wants to bolster her "broken finger" story and possibly talk about the pedophilia too.

BTW, they think the magazines were being sent out via a reporter TO MATT! Instructions what to do and say.

One magazine had the messages, and the other had the "order" in which to read the messages so they would "make sense".
Like :

Jodi Arias has a very selective memory.
She's a hostile witness, I say. Smug, snarly, wise ass.

Martinez is proving every little lie to show Travis was NOT
abusive or a sexual deviant. Without out that claim she has no case for self defense.

It's hard to call, but I think there may be a hung jury on this case.

The 'something short and sweet" note she send to the family was 18 pages long.

Jodi is an ultra-controller. She takes control of every question Juan asks her. And her answers are very manipulative. They're answers nobody could much argue with. Just common-sensy 'you know what I mean don't we all think this way' type answers. Some of Juan's questions could trip her up but she's thoughtful before she answers each one. But she is not doing a good job of remembering that she "had" to kill Travis to save her own life. She just doesn't seem to be able to get out of the role of guilty.

Prosecutor Martinez back to when Jodi left her parent's house at 16/17 and moved in with a Bobby Juarez. JA suspects boyfriend Bobby is communicating with someone else and decides to "snoop" into his computer after she drops him off at work.

She is SUPER controlled, almost the PERFECT witness. I just can't stand the QUALIFIERS she constantly adds with her every response.

You are right about what she is forgetting - that she had to kill him in self-defense. There is no corroborating evidence. She's not emphasizing that or making it a point. So many women are serving life sentences who were severely abused and in my opinion, deserved to be acquitted due to justifiable self-defense. Jodi Arias, imo, does not qualify.

Martinez: Are you having trouble understanding again today?
