Disney Buys Lucasfilm; Eyes Release Of 'Star Wars: Episode 7' For 2015 Posted: 10/30/2012 4:16 pm EDT Updated: 10/30/2012 7:57 pm EDT
The Force is strong with this merger. Disney announced on Tuesday that it had purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock shares. In conjunction with the news, Disney also revealed that plans for a seventh "Star Wars" film, "Star Wars: Episode VII," are in motion with eyes on theatrical release in 2015.
During a conference call announcing the merger, it was reported that Disney executives said they wanted to release an "Episode VII" and "Episode IX" as well. The films would ideally reach theaters every two or three years.
"It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that 'Star Wars' could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime," Lucas, who directed four of the six "Star Wars" films, said in a statement. "I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, 'Star Wars' will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

the "Star Wars" director will donate the $4.05 billion he will receive from the sale of Lucasfilm Ltd. to Disney to a foundation focused on education, a la Bill Gates. Per Lucas:
“For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company,” Lucas said in a statement on Wednesday. “As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy.”

Speaking of movies, did anyone watch the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer released last night? I am a huge fan of the series. It hits theatres Dec 17/18. I bought my ticket for opening night today.

Did you know that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are reprising their roles? Even the original Chewbacca is it. J.J. Adams is the Director. He also directed the newest Star Trek movies, which I thought were fabulous, even though the original cast (except Leonard Nimoy) weren't in it.
Wow, the realization just set in that we are 2 months away from the premiere (Already got my tickets IMAX and 3D yay!) and seeing my old post and realizing how wrong I was..Gwendolyn Christie is playing a Stormtrooper of all things. Also concerned on how they are going to treat Luke Skywalker. I find it a bit weird he isn't on the final poster, but we shall see. So close..so close.

I didn't get IMAX even though the theatre has it. They are only currently offering the tickets in FDX. If it's as good as I am hoping, I can go again and see it on IMAX & 3D. (Have seen one large screen 3D movie, but never seen IMAX.)
I have my theories about why Luke isn't on the posters. I will put it in a spoiler box.
Spoiler:
It has to be something shocking or else they would show his face. I'm thinking he may have turned to the dark side (and will redeem himself in later films like his dad) and is behind the new Darth Vader type helmet.
I didn't expect G.C. to be a Stormtrooper, but makes sense. She certainly isn't "a little too short" to be one.
He won't show up until late in the film, because I am thinking someone has to "train" the black guy (not being rude I just forget his character name at the moment). He won't turn to the dark side, but the latest rumors are that he is so powerful in the force he has had to exile himself and he may be worried about turning.
I am also bothered by the erasing of the Expanded Universe. But I think Rai (Daisy Ridley)
Spoiler:
Is Jaina Solo. If this is to be the continuation of the Skywalker family saga, that is the only thing that makes sense.
I really was hoping we would get Mara Jade and Kyle Kitarn..although it WAS said that Kitarn's ship actually appears in one of the films so I can only hope.

I found out my theatre is showing the movie in IMAX 3D, so I returned the ticket I bought and purchased a new one for the IMAX 3D, although I have to wait until Saturday to see it. (I really didn't feel like seeing it after working all day, so it worked out well.) I'm excited that my first IMAX movie is this one.

Well, I saw it and was not disappointed! It was great and is very faithful in look and storytelling to A New Hope. I was really impressed by the actress who played Rey, Daisy Ridley.
--------- I recognized Gwen.. Christie the second she spoke.
I won't say anything more. I don't want to spoil any of the surprises.
