A gun attack in Malmo has left 'multiple injuries' as police seal off an area in the south of the Swedish city.

The shooting occurred just before 7pm local time this evening and police have an ongoing operation in the area.

A witness to the incident said there were around twenty shots fired by people in an Audi which then drove off at high speed.

Shell casings were found by officers at the scene.

Brussels stabbing: two police officers targeted in suspected terror attack

Two police officers have been stabbed in Brussels in an incident that could be terror-related, prosecutors say.

A 43-year old Belgian man stabbed one officer in the neck and the other in the abdomen in the north-east of the Belgian capital on Wednesday and then fled the scene.

The assailant was stopped by a second group of police officers. He broke the nose of one officer, who shot him in the leg.

The federal prosecutor’s spokesman, Eric Van Der Sypt, said: “We have reason to believe that it is terror-related.” He declined to provide details or explain why prosecutors suspected the attack was linked to terrorism.

Belgium has been on high alert since 32 people were killed in suicide bomb attacks on the Brussels airport and metro on 22 March.

The suspect in the latest incident was identified as Hicham D, 43, a Belgian citizen. A judge will decide later on his “possible detention”, the prosecutor said.

The FBI is investigating claims a Jordanian student pilot intentionally crashed a light aircraft, killing himself and injuring three others.

The Piper PA 34 was being piloted by Feras M. Freitekh and his instructor when it crashed on Main Street in East Hartford at around 3.45pm on Tuesday, resulting in what one witness described as a 'mushroom cloud explosion.'

Student pilot Freitekh, 28, a Jordanian national, was killed in the crash, according to reports by the New York Times. His instructor was rushed to hospital with serious burns. Two people in a minivan close to the landing site were also hospitalized.

The FBI is now investigating whether the crash, near aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor Pratt & Whitney's headquarters was intentional, after the instructor pilot claimed the plane was intentionally crashed.

The instructing pilot, who is awake in hospital and speaking with police but has not been named, said that his student Freitekh had crashed the plane on purpose, law enforcement sources told the Times.

A knifeman is on the run after he stabbed four people in Frankfurt train station.

The attack this afternoon occurred at Hauptwache station and there police have said there are four victims.

At this stage the motive for the stabbings is not clear.

The local police force confirmed the attack by Tweeting: 'There was a knife assault at the #Hauptwache in #Frankfurt.

'That's why so many colleagues [police officers] and rescue workers there.'

Frankfurt Police confirmed all four victims were still in hospital.

A video of the bloody aftermath was captured on what is understood to be level B of the station.

All of the wounded were taken to hospital after emergency services rushed to the scene in Ten Kate Street, near the junction with the Hasebroekstraat, close to the famous Van Gogh museum.

Police confirmed all three of the injured were men.

A barista working in a coffee shop said she heard five or six shots from a nearby shisha cafe popular with "shady characters" at 6.30pm today.

She said a customer thought firecrackers were being set off in the Amsterdam street.

But she then saw two police officers running around the corner.

She added: "Then people ran screaming down the street.

"At the same time other people were just very quiet.

Bagram blast: Bomber kills Americans at Afghan base

A suicide bomber has killed four Americans inside Bagram airbase, the largest US military facility in Afghanistan.

US Defence Secretary Ash Carter said two members of the armed services and two contractors had died in the attack.

A further 16 US service members and one Polish soldier were injured, he added.

The Taliban said one of their fighters had carried out the attack, a major security breach in one of the best protected places in Afghanistan.

Bagram has been targeted by militants in the past but this is the first time a bomb has exploded inside the base.

Just north of the capital Kabul, it has been used as the main military base and airfield by the US-led forces and Nato over the past 14 years.

A local government spokesman said the attacker had entered the base early in the morning and was among Afghan labourers reporting for duty when he detonated his vest.

A Twin Cities man described as a leader of a group of nine who plotted to travel to Syria to fight for the Islamic State group was sentenced to 35 years in prison Wednesday by a federal judge who said he didn’t believe the man’s tearful apologies and words of contrition.

Two other members of what U.S. District Judge Michael Davis repeatedly called a “terrorist cell” — Mohamed Farah and Abdirahman Daud, both 22 — were sentenced earlier Wednesday to 30 years in prison apiece. But Guled Omar, 22, drew the longest sentence of the nine defendants who appeared before Davis this week.

“I understand the seriousness of what I’ve been convicted of, and I understand that I will not be able to go home anytime soon,” Omar told the judge as he awaited his sentence, which ended up being less than the 40 years prosecutors sought. “I always had energy for justice as a young man but I lost my way.”

Omar’s statement sent his mother in the gallery into sobbing uncontrollably while other family members left the Minneapolis courtroom to collect their emotions. Davis didn’t buy it.

“Everything you have said here, I don’t believe,” Davis said.

Prosecutor Andrew Winter said Omar’s tears could not be trusted.

Oakland: Southwest Airlines bomb threat suspect identified

OAKLAND — A man suspected of making threats that a bomb would explode on a Southwest Airlines flight departing from the Oakland International Airport remained in custody Wednesday morning as authorities delved into his background.

Authorities arrested 32-year-old Arpan Shah, of Sykesville, Maryland and took him to the Glenn Dyer Jail after Southwest Flight 5135 returned to the gate Tuesday, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said.

The flight taxied from Gate 6 around 2:30 p.m. on its way to Baltimore when Shaw started ranting that he would blow up the plane and that it was going to blow up, Kelly said. The plane’s pilot then returned to the gate.

“We don’t know why he was acting the way he was acting,” Kelly said. “We don’t know if there are mental issues going on there, or what it might be but we’re looking at everything.”

The FBI also was investigating, he said.

“This is the busiest travel time of the year. People are going to see family and friends all around the country,” Kelly said. “To yell something like that is like yelling, ‘Fire,’ in a crowded building.”

Several passengers filled out citizen arrest forms. Shah is expected to be charged with making criminal threats.

Ohio college student who plotted to kill military employee, police officers for ISIS is sentenced to 20 years in prison

An Ohio college student who pleaded guilty to plotting an Islamic State-guided attack on a U.S. military employee and a police station was sentenced to two decades in prison, authorities said Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors said Munir Abdulkader, 22, was directed to carry out an attack in the Cincinnati area by Junaid Hussain, a well-known figure in the Islamic State. According to the details outlined in court documents, Abdulkader had planned to record the military member’s death before attacking the police station.

Hussain, also known as Abu Hussain al-Britani, was a hacker as well as a recruiter for the extremist group, and he was reported killed in a U.S. drone strike in Syria in August 2015. The Justice Department said that Abdulkader had communicated with Hussain months before the drone strike.

Abdulkader was arrested in May 2015, but the case was not unsealed until July 2016 — more than a year after his arrest and four months after Abdulkader pleaded guilty. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office said that the case was sealed until July “due to an ongoing investigation.”

The plea agreement, which can be read here, was signed in February and filed in March. It states that Abdulkader had intended to abduct a military employee at his home, kill this person and film the execution to be used in a propaganda video. After that, Abdulkader intended to assault a police station “using firearms and molotov cocktails,” the plea agreement said.

Abdulkader told a confidential FBI source that he had talked to members of the Islamic State about the violent plot, according to a complaint filed in May 2015.

This complaint said that a member or members of the Islamic State “directed and encouraged” Abdulkader “to plan and execute a violent attack within the United States.”

According to the complaint, Abdulkader had also posted comments in 2014 and 2015 on Twitter supporting the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, on Twitter, claiming that his cousin had died fighting for the group.

Nigeria suicide attack in crowded market kills dozens in Madagali

Two female suicide bombers on Friday killed 45 people and wounded 33 others when they detonated their explosives in a crowded market in Nigeria's restive northeast, the emergency service said.

The army had earlier put the death toll at 30.

"From our updated records we have 45 dead and 33 injured in the twin suicide bomb explosions in Madagali," said Sa'ad Bello of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Adamawa state.

While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, the blasts bore all the hallmarks of Boko Haram, which regularly uses women and young girls to carry out suicide attacks in its seven-year insurgent campaign in the troubled region.

At least 20 people have been injured in a blast outside Besiktas stadium in Istanbul, according to Turkey's Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, cited by Reuters.

The blast likely targeted a riot police bus, the minister said.

Police, according to the reporter, immediately intervened with water cannon to extinguish the fires caused by the explosion.
Rescue units are currently working at the scene, Kilic stressed.

Meanwhile, two witnesses told Reuters they heard two blasts outside the Vodafone Arena

“It was like hell. The flames went all the way up to the sky. I was drinking tea at the cafe next to the mosque,” said Omer Yilmiz, who works as a cleaner at the nearby Dolmabahce mosque.

“People ducked under the tables, women began crying. Football fans drinking tea at the cafe sought shelter, it was horrible,” he told Reuters.

Pictures of grey clouds rising near Besiktas stadium quickly emerged online. Those were followed by images and videos of the explosion's aftermath.

At least 22 people have died and 35 more are injured in the blast, according to Egyptian state television.

It is believed many of the victims are women and children.

The blast at St Mark's Orthodox Cathedral in the Abbassiya area of Cairo took place during Sunday morning prayers.

Egyptian media says 6kg of explosives were used.

Video footage from the scene shows parts of the cathedral reduced to rubble.

Security sources suggest an unidentified woman placed an IED inside a handbag in the cathedral before detonating the bomb remotely, despite heavy security around the building.

ISIS holds tourists hostage in Karakh, Jordan

Jordan’s security agencies have reported that the gunmen who went on a shooting spree in the southern Jordanian town of Karakh on Dec. 18, aimed at hitting the tourists who frequent the big Crusader castle in the town, in the same way as the Islamic State shot up tourist targets in Egypt and Tunisia in recent years.
As they drove through the town in four cars, the gunmen shot dead four policemen and a Canadian woman and injured nine other people.

They then commandeered the famous castle, trapping some 14 tourists inside as hostages. Karakh is about 129 km south of the Jordanian capital, Amman.

debkafile’s counterterrorism sources report that video footage of the castle taken during the event revealed a Jordanian military facility atop the building which may be a communications tower. It is still not clear whether the terrorists hit the facility and what happened to the soldiers manning it.

ISTANBUL—A young Turkish policeman, railing about Russia’s role in Syria’s bloody war, shot and killed Moscow’s ambassador to Ankara during an art opening Monday night, an attack that all three countries termed an act of terror.

A video of the attack showed the assailant, in black suit and white shirt, standing over the fallen diplomat with gun in hand, shouting, “Don’t forget Aleppo, don’t forget Syria.”

He continued: “Those who have a part in this atrocity will all pay for it, one by one.”

4 killed, 15 wounded as truck rams into Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem

A Palestinian who may be linked to ISIS rammed his speeding truck into a group of Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem Sunday, killing four people and wounding 15 others before being shot dead in one of the deadliest attacks in a year-long campaign of violence, Israeli police said.

Five people were arrested Sunday -- including the assailant's father and brother -- in connection with the attack.

"This is part of the same ongoing battle against the global scourge of terrorism," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement. "We can only fight it together, but we'll fight it."

Netanyahu said the truck's driver had been identified and appeared to be "a supporter of the Islamic State." Speaking at the scene of the slaughter, Netanyahu added there "definitely could be a connection" between Sunday's horrific attack and similar ISIS truck attacks that took place in France and Germany in recent months.

Images on social media showed some Palestinians handing out sweets to children in celebration of the attack.
