Apparently... to retain an average of 100+ when he goes out, Voges needs to score 272+

I agree... from now on his average stays at 100 (or more) provide he scores 100 or more (or is not out for any score).

So from this point he needs to score another 100 before going out

Day 3 - 1st Test (2 test series)

I'd like to see Voges go on and make a double century.. and a not-out at the end of the innings(preserving his 100+ average) would be good too :cool

As I predicted... Australia will bat on a while today.. reach a lead of 300+.

They could bat on a long time yet and extend that lead.

Regardless... NZ will have a battle to SAVE this game.... but a good innings to do that will be an achievement in itself. That requires the top-order players playing proper test innings... retaining their wickets and 2 or 3 of them scoring centuries. They could even, not only wipe off the deficit.. but also set Australia some sort of target for their second innings?

Note
If Australia still batting then the innings SHOULD be up to 160 overs at lunch time.

I believe that players can play on (delay lunch) if only one wicket remains? Not sure who gets to decide on that.. and it would have to be limited time (maybe half hour??)

If Australia out, or declare... then I guess there will be an innings change allowance of 2 overs? Nz will have to come out to bat, even if there is only time for one over.

They are only up to 152 overs with 20 minutes to go... I fear that as always they are behind on over rate :wall

Oh dear... Voges OUT... shame

AC Voges c & b Craig 239 (364b 30x4 3x6) SR: 65.65
(Career average 97.46)

Innings Break

I still calculate that NZ is behind minimum over rate.. by 2 or 3 :doh

New Zealand 183
Australia 562 (154.2 ov)
Australia lead by 379 runs

NZ have to come out and face one over...

I didn't see NZ bat.

Were they being extra careful not to get lose a wicket?

If you blinked you would have missed it (1 over) :cool

Latham faced 4 balls.. Guptill looked happy leaning on his bat at non-strikers end... but Latham ran a single and Guptill had to face 2 balls as well :roll

IMO it is time for NZ to "front up" and show that they are a legitimate Test Match side.

No more excuses.... for going out for few runs.. or even scoring 20 or 30 and then going out. This is TEST CRICKET..there is no pressing time restriction... they can take their time (within reason) to get set.. and then all they have to do is bat at a comfortable rate (eg 3 or 4 per over).

By the end of play today I expect NZ to have erased a large chunk of the deficit...., to be at most 2 wickets down.. and for at least one player to have scored a century :cool

However.. sadly.... I think it more likely that NZ by Stumps tonight will be 5 (or more) wickets down, and still 150 in deficit, with nobody scoring more than 45

I've been waiting, wondering what your prediction is.

I'm ready to see some more runs and better batting than Day 1. :roll

I hope you are right.

Tea Break - Dilmah Tea Party

Today...... BALLS!! :eek

Image

New Zealand 183 & 106/1 (30.0 ov)
Australia 562
New Zealand trail by 273 runs with 9 wickets remaining

NZ doing OK.. only 1 wicket down, and 100+ runs, but as I said, they need some real "Test batting".. with 1 or 2 players going on to make centuries. They need to bat rest of today, and all day tomorrow.. and into the 5th day. :cool

BTW
Australia bowled 29 overs in that session.. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! :59

It was interesting. Especially the hand-stitched details, who knew?

Do you enter that contest for the Dilmah goody bag? You have to have a barcode, I'll have to look for it here. I WANT the porcelain mugs. And I knew the answer to the Q without needing to google it.

Okay, will watch Balls 2 tomorrow. :)

They advertise the goody bag after every show.

You are obviously not their advertising target. :roll

It's not a competition, it's a drawing.
Haven't read the fine print, I probably don't qualify.

Cricket!
