I am obviously rooting for NZ in this game.. but even so... I hope Pakistani batsmen score a big total (and so NZ bowlers dont do so well)... It make for a more entertaining game if it's high scoring with a challenging target for NZ to achieve....like to see a target of well over 300 and McCull come out to show how to get on with making a target from ball 1. :cool

Realizing how field placement has worked for NZ for these early wickets.

In baseball, opposing players hitting patterns are studied for each game and the fielders adjust based on who is at bat.

Do cricket batsmen have batting patterns as such? I am fascinated by fielding changes I see in every game, but mostly the man at short leg, almost in his face, when McCullum bats.

And then there is who is bowling would make a difference also. Funny old game I'm trying to figure out. :)

Simple answer... YES.

Batsmen's batting history .. scoring shots are studied.. you see some of the data during commentary... the "Wagon Wheels" showing shots for a current innings.. they have all that data (and lots of other info).. back for ever.. and computer programs to deal with it.

But on field.. its analyses in the captains head.. McCullum has his own ideas.

Pakistan playing how I have suggested last few games.. several nations....

154/2 after 21 overs

Provide they dont have a batting collapse.. they should get 350+?

Double the score after 30 overs to estimate final score?

Pakistan 207/3 after 30 overs.

Heading for 414? That would make for an exciting game (8 r/o) :cool

Record ODI score V NZ
England 408/9 (50.0 overs) v New Zealand Birmingham 9 Jun 2015

On that occasion
NZ (all out; 31.1 overs; 149 mins) 198runs (6.35 runs per over)
(England won by 210 runs)

I don't know, I was thinking this BEFORE Azim was out, looking at middle line-up guys. I am going for a lower score, at 350 (higher than WASP). I think this was your original prediction .. I'm stealing it. ;)

I don't want to see too much of a target for NZ with Taylor not playing. :Gslap

I want to see the biggest target possible.. LOVE 400+

McCullum and Guptil opening and doing most of it... would be magnificent.

If they failed in the attempt.. so be it.

It would put the shits up the Australians ahead of Wednesday Gnomesayin? :cool

Guptill sprained his ankle in practice and was iffy until this morning.

Watching his fielding today, he looks great. I'm looking forward to the partnership also.

Why do they call McCullum "Baz"?

Dunno.. Baz/ Bazza is common nickname for "Barry"

Brendon?....... close enough :cool

Guptill looks fine to me.. and I dont want him to run much anyway... 4's and 6's will do.

RAIN... here in west Auckland... heavy droplets... but if cricket were here... not enough to stop play... also rumbles of thunder.. it may get worse.. it may head towards Eden Park??

Rain set in steady, not heavy. Players would be off field and covers on if cricket were here. REPORTS of very heavy rain in other districts. :(

I hope they do get covers on the field BEFORE it rains.
I don't know the directions at Eden Park, but from the camera view, the sky looks blue ;)

Radar doesn't show anything (much) west of you.

Eden park is East of me.... rain eased here.

Pakistan have lost their way somewhat :(

300 is an important psychological bar.

There may well be a DL adjustment to the NZ target later... hard to say how that will effect things...

Shame.... Pakistan blew it :roll

MY theory is NZ should still go like stink at the start (until 2 wickets fall).....

Play as if they needed to make the target in 40 overs (7.3 r/o) :cool

The threat of rain seems real "Dark clouds" not far away.

For that reason alone NZ need to get on with the job... the luxury of "making up" for slow batting rate later.. could at any stage be taken away by a rain delay.. or even rain ends play. There must be 20 overs before this becomes an official game. That seems likely to happen, but as the game progresses there will be some DL adjusted target number of runs that NZ need to have reached at each stage.

Oh noes!! McCullum out!!

Best regard McCullum as filling Taylor's role...

...go out and not contribute much to team runs.

Unlike Taylor, at least McCullum didnt waste balls faced while not scoring :cool
