Nothing WRONG with Warner's innings... subsequent batsmen need to maintain a SR of over 100.

Damn!

Well, you can't say they didn't have a good opening. Great partnership.

187 ... great batting.

After 30 overs.. 188... Double that to predict final score :)

376 will do nicely :cool

Thanks for the math, Rumpole. ;)

I have been counting to the 30 overs so I could post. :stamp

Got all distracted by the wicket. I don't think the 376 will happen, but the 350 looks good now.

The Indian inning will either be VERY exciting to watch if they score from the outset... else it will be a rout with wickets falling and game over in under 40 overs (IMO)

LOL at you predicting the India innings before break!

I hope to be able to stay up to watch, at least the beginning.

Marsh is pitiful ... I'm ready for another wicket and get Smith out there to partner with Finch.

And... Finch out.... that sort of thing is often partially (at least) because the player at the other end is not doing his bit

Marsh continues to be hopeless.. Smith is doing OK

Now that Mash has been there for 36 balls, rather than leave a new batsman to make up for his failings.... he NEEDS to do something... 4 boundaries SOON...

Marsh out... Typical... waste time at the crease.. and then go out :wall

Frankly it's GOOD that he is out.. let somebody else have a go who CAN score runs....team would be better off if he had never batted

All the Australians, apart from Marsh, did OK.. the ducks when the bash is on is just an occupational hazard... at least they tried and did not use up balls. And going out with low score is OK provided SR is over 100 while doing it.

IMO Marsh's lack of application (at top of batting order) cost the team total about 20 runs :cool

Australian Innings

DA Warner 93/92 ....SR 101.08
AJ Finch 107/107 ....SR 100.00
MR Marsh 33/42 ....SR 78.57
SPD Smith* 51/29 ....SR 175.86
GJ Maxwell 41/20 ....SR 205.00
GJ Bailey 10/7 ....SR 142.85
JP Faulkner 0/1 ....SR 0.00
MS Wade† 0/2 ....SR 0.00
JW Hastings not out 0 /0 ....SR -

Team Total 348/8 (50.0 ov)

MARSH is a CLEAR drag on the team (SR 78.57) over 42 balls faced (equivalent of 7/50 overs)

I award Marsh the "Ross Taylor Award" for crap batting :cool

At this point, I agree with you. The outset will tell it all.

Guaranteed to be exciting for a bit, at least.

I like to compare early on.

End of over 5 (4 runs) India 30/0 (319 runs required from 45 overs, RR: 6.00, RRR: 7.08)

End of over 5 (14 runs) Australia 40/0 (RR: 8.00)

Comparing teams at same point in an innings has BIG limitations.

There is a big difference chasing a known target to "batting like hell" to set a target.. Gnomesayin? :cool

Putting is another way...

India have no need at all to put together their innings in same way that Australia did. In a sense what Australia did at various points in the game is irrelevant.

India just have to score close to 7/over... for 50 overs. They can afford to miss that a little .. but not much. When they do the required rate increases. Wickets in hand important as well. Teams CAN score 10/over in last 10... if they are only 2 or 3 wickets down.

Also India can make the job easier by scoring MORE than 7/o and so decreasing the Required RR.

YES, your point is understandable and I do see the difference.

But it's what I do ..

I promise not to post every 5 overs ;)
