His partners will need to stick with him long enough to make 15 (or 20)

My Math says 55 overs left in days play... can NZ get this test done today?

189 is NOT a big score to get in an ODI (50 overs) game......... Gnomesayin? :cool

189 in 55 overs only requires 3.78 r/o

And if needed there are 2 full days after today.. :roll

I think NZ SHOULD try and twist the knife and knock this game over as quickly as posible... they can always back off if say 3 wickets fall..... besides... I want to see McCullum in and hitting a few 6's

Sounds like a plan to me, Rumpole. ;)

Seems like we are creeping along right now ...

2nd wicket down... AND NZ only scoring at 2.3/over?

They are fucking it up. They are neither scoring runs nor playing safe and not going out?

McCullum is the answer... Taylor wont last long :cool

Hope Taylor out soon... McCullum and Williamson can do this if Taylor gets out of the way

And when we WANT Taylor to score big, he's gone in flash. ;)

I'd like to see a Kane/Brendon partnership also.

IMO NZ need to up the run rate to 5+

IF Taylor can do that.. he can go for it... if he goes out trying so-be-it :)

Either piss or get off the pot :cool

See what I mean... Taylor should have been out... a bad decision by on-field umpire... but strict rules mean 3rd umpire can NOT overturn on-field umpire.. ball WOULD have hit stumps and on-field ump was wrong.. but he gets benefit of absolute surety...tracking shows only half ball hitting. In previous WRONG 3rd umpire ruling.. there was not clear certain evidence to overrule on-field umpire... and so 3rd umpire should have let the decision stand

Yes, I do see what you mean. :)
I think that 1st bad call wicket got into the heads of SL, like the other one did to NZ (specifically McCullum) when they played Aus.

I'm trying to figure out how they are going to get the 8 extra overs in at the end of the day. Did you hear they talking about it?

8 overs or 30 minutes, whichever comes first.

I didnt hear what you are referring to, but... the extra half hour at end is standard these days, though it is longer hours than strictly scheduled 6 hours.. just to try (and fail) to get through the 90 overs. They started half hour early as well today to make up 8 overs... so they are due to get through 98 overs.( 3 overs taken off for an innings break, leaves 95)

IF the result is imminent for either side (decided by umpire) they can bat on ANOTHER half hour.. to put the game and the spectators out of their misery and and not all have to turn up tomorrow for just half hours play.

This all works in NZ ... it does not get dark until 8:30 ish... in UK (for instance) they struggle to get to 5:00 - 5:30... it gets gloomy and batters appeal for bad light and play ends early :)
