but cricket is a funny old game (and we have Taylor)

LOL!

btw, I changed "to start calling it" > "to make a call" ...

I didn't mean call the game :roll, just guess on a target to reach.

Yeah... you certainly CAN NOT guess at run targets at this stage. SL could dribble on and get 400+
NZ might find batting easy... score 500+ 600+

I will say... the wicket looks fine to bat on to me. All worries about "a green pitch" did not happen.

If it stays like this... both sides could well score big.... it will take clever declaration to get around it ending in a draw.

SL should aim to get to 200+ before tea... lose no wickets

In an ODI, 178 would not win a game in 50 ovrs, so what am I missing as far as this being a possible high scoring game?

Do you mean for a Test only?

Yes

In an ODI.. a score of say 5 runs per over easily obtainable... but hard to sustain that for say 100 overs. There are field restrictions in ODI... there are limits on bowlers in ODI.. each bowler can only bowl 10 overs.

Essentially ODI is a chance to bash ( a bit),,, You dont mind if entire team are out scoring say 250 in 50 overs. If you did same from start of a test match.. your side would be all out for 250... an hour BEFORE tea on the 1st day... that would NOT be good. The Other side are NOT limited to same 50 overs.. they could play as slow as hell... 2 runs per over.. and still match your score (in a day and a session... then bat on and get far more.

Tea

Sri Lanka 198/4 (54 ov)

New Zealand won the toss and elected to field

I am NOT impressed with over rate :59

By Tea they should have bowled 60 overs

As far as all the ANGST about a "green wicket" before they had even tried it... I would point these cricket pussies to Dr Seuss

McCullum: "I do not LIKE green wickets.. I do not like them here or there...."

Rumpole: "Try them try them and you may....."

Mcullum: "Mmmm... I do so like Green wickets....."

Thanks for explaining, that's quite a bit more info than I "figured out".

I expected a :fish

I'm listening again, I think the commentators changed.

Going to watch and listen closely .. next 2 hrs. ;)

(cute Dr. Seuss vid .. I actually watched)

Sometimes I scare myself with how accurate my predictions are :cool

SL overall rr is 3.96...almost 4 as I suggested... NOT less than 3 as Smithy predicted.

They are STILL on track to score a total of 350+ at stumps.. NOT 280 as pundits suggested.

I was just trying to figure out that exact same thing.

Thx for doing the math! ;)

Yeah, I can even say they are going over 280.

RR now 4.03 overall... :)

(Last 10 ovs 66/0 RR 6.60)

IF they bowl 90 overs ... at overall 4r/o... that is 360 runs

They COULD do better... but cricket is a funny old game... there could still be a batting collapse.

Another run out.... SL down to the batting dregs.

Cricket is a funny old game. I think SL will be all out <300

I do hope Mathews can scrape a century.

Rain threatening.... they will be OFF soon.

There are 23 overs left in the days play.. they can work overtime through to 6:00PM.... IF they get back on.

I doubt they will bowl all 23 (if any) today. Not sure if they will make any up by starting early tomorrow?

I can't get radar (rain) in NZ, only cloud cover.

Does it look like it will let up any time soon?

I'm not ready for this to be over today. :)
