The video that might rip Chicago apart — and why you need to see it
By John Kass | Chicago Tribune | November 10, 2015

There is a video that could tear Chicago apart.

It will go viral if released, and the world will see something ugly and frightening on the Southwest Side.

It comes from a police dashboard camera. City Hall worries that political hell may be on the way. Activists are primed. The politics of race and police use of force are at hand.

And a court hearing is scheduled for next week on whether it should be released to the public.

All this is going on just below the surface. All the players know what's at stake, so I thought you should know about it, too.

Judge rules that the #LaquanMcDonald dashcam video be released to the public on or before, November 25th. Defense asked for stay pending appeal (denied). "The court has spent more than enough time to get to this decision," judge says, declining to review plaintiff's last-minute motions.

This will give the BLM folks time to organize the protests, looting/shooting, etc. (I hope not.) Deray is already "running" with it. :roll

That's the first thing I thought of, LR! :roll
"on or before" ... emphasis on before, BUT doesn't matter if it's Monday, day of, or Wednesday. It's not gonna be good for LEOs over the holidays. They've held off not showing it this long, Judge should have extended date to after Thanksgiving, IMO.

Chicago braces for release of police shooting video
By Aamer Madhani | USA TODAY | 9:00PM EST November 23, 2015

CHICAGO — The city of Chicago is bracing for the release this week of a potentially-explosive police squad car dashcam video of a white police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Monday spoke with activists in a conference call and also held meetings with pastors and activists to discuss the forthcoming release of footage that shows 17-year-old Laquan McDonald being gunned down by Officer Jason Van Dyke, a 14-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department.

They mayor's office said that Emanuel discussed the way forward for Chicago in the aftermath of the release of the video, which a Cook County Circuit judge last week ordered the city to release by Wednesday.

Accused cop Van Dyke opened fire as teen walked away: prosecutors
Cop fired 16 times, was reloading when officer told him to stop: prosecutors

By Jason Meisner, Jeremy Gorner, Steve Schmadeke | Chicago Tribune | November 24, 2015, 1:44PM

Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke arrives at the Leighton Criminal Court
Building in Chicago on Nov. 24, 2015, to face charges in the shooting death
of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

Cook County prosecutors said in court Tuesday that a Chicago police officer charged with first-degree murder opened fire six seconds after exiting his squad car as 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was walking away from him.

Officer Jason Van Dyke fired 16 rounds at McDonald in about 14 seconds and was reloading when another officer told him to hold his fire, prosecutors said during bond court.

Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered Van Dyke held without bail until the judge can personally view on Monday a police dash-cam video of the shooting from October 2014.

“I believe it's pertinent for a bond hearing,” Panarese said of the video. “I'm sorry, but I'm holding you no bail until Monday.”

Clad in a brown sweatshirt, a white shirt and blue jeans, Van Dyke showed no emotion as he was led from the courtroom in custody.

State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez said Tuesday that several civilians witnessed the shooting. One motorist told authorities he never saw McDonald lunge at any officers or do anything else threatening before he was shot. McDonald also made no threatening motions afterward while on the ground, Alvarez said the motorist told authorities.

“The officer’s actions were not justified and were not a proper use of deadly force,” the prosecutor said.
[...]
Van Dyke is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of McDonald "without legal justification and with the intent to kill or do great bodily harm," according to the one-page criminal complaint filed against him.

Most of Chicago police force ordered into uniform ahead of video release
Police prepare for possible protests

By Peter Nickeas, Jeremy Gorner | Chicago Tribune | November 24, 2015

The Chicago Police Department ordered most of its force into uniform and warned them of potentially longer hours and canceled days off as the city prepares to release a video of Officer Jason Van Dyke fatally shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

The plan is not unprecedented, and similar plans have been made in the past when the department expects massive protests or potential for civil unrest.

The officer was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the shooting. He turned himself into authorities and has been ordered held without bail.

The city has been ordered to release the dash-cam video of the incident by Wednesday.

Detectives, tactical teams and other officers in the city who normally wear civilian clothing were ordered to wear uniforms through Nov. 29, according to an internal department order obtained by the Tribune. Officers who went through "riot control training" also will be required to have their riot gear ready if needed.

Detectives may end up patrolling "critical facilities" or processing arrests, according to the order. Some will still be available to respond to shootings or other major incidents not connected with any protests.

Forensic services division officers may get called to help photograph arrestees or film protests, the order stated.

A few observations from CTH................

Skip to 5:20 Scum bag brandishing knife within 10 feet of cop. Not guilty

To others: you can start around 5:10.

I’m not seeing anything egregious. I see a feral swinging a shiny object back and forth and it looks like the cops told him to stop and he swung around. I have zero doubt they thought he had a gun. Shoot or be shot. Where is the supposed horrible stuff that brought people to tears?

1) it was made out like he was already under arrest. (mmmm, seems familiar)
2) They deployed the taser @5:31
3) he does have a shinny object in his right hand
4) he’s shot @5:35

4 seconds to make a life or death decision

Jason says:

he is shot again while on the ground @5:46, but seems to jerk his hands up in front of him just prior in attempt to point something at the officers (the one kicks it away).

1st degree murder? WTF.

He fired a second volley when the offender tried to lurch up from the ground. I would have preferred to hear the commands, but I predict upon a quick perusal no conviction.

I thought about you doing that, Rumpole ;)

I am hoping this fizzles out ... such idiotic goings on related to this situation. He has been charged, let him have his day in court. Reminder .. family received $5 million.

The people in Chicago know what the police are capable of as far as riot control. I hope it doesn't happen, but CNN seems to be on this like a missing plane, with their police experts, and want Chicago to explode (imo).

And I just noticed, thanks for posting the video :)

Aspiring poet who organizes protests is among those arrested in Loop video protest
By Dawn Rhodes, Tony Briscoe, Peter Nickeas | Chicago Tribune | November 25, 2015

Not sure, but looking at his mugshot, this could be London who dindu nuffin.

One of the five protesters arrested in the Loop in the hours after the release of the Laquan McDonald video is an aspiring poet who has garnered national attention and was one of the organizers of the march.

Malcolm London, 22, of the 4900 block of West Huron in the Austin neighborhood, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, a felony, after he allegedly struck a cop, according to the Police Department.

He faces the most serious charge of those arrested during the demonstration, which lasted for hours and briefly stopped traffic on the Eisenhower Expressway.

London is accused of striking an officer in the 100 block of East Balbo Drive as police blocked protesters from marching across the bridge. He is scheduled to appear in bond court later Wednesday.

Supporters have created a Free Malcolm London hashtag and have urged people to call police to demand that he be released.

"He was just standing there and the police snatched him up," tweeted the Black Youth Project 100, which organized Tuesday night's march. London is listed as a co-chair of the organization's Chicago chapter.

1 in custody in threat at University of Chicago linked to Laquan McDonald shooting
By Jodi S. Cohen and Lolly Bowean | Chicago Tribune | November 30, 2015

An online threat to kill 16 white male students or staff in retaliation for the shooting of Laquan McDonald forced the University of Chicago to cancel classes and close its Hyde Park campus Monday, the Tribune has learned, and one person was taken into custody in connection with the threat.

A University of Illinois at Chicago student has been arrested in connection with the threat. A statement from the U. of C. said charges were pending.

As the University of Chicago was eerily quiet Monday morning, more information emerged about the imminent threat, detailed in a police report obtained by the Tribune. On Sunday morning, a New York resident called the FBI to report a comment he saw on the website http://www.worldstarhiphop.com, posted in response to a video clip from the 1995 movie "Panther."

The commenter threatened to shoot and kill students, staff and police on the campus at 10 a.m. Monday and then kill himself, citing the fatal shooting last year of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by a Chicago police officer. The officer, who shot McDonald 16 times, was charged last week with first-degree murder.

Rahm Emanuel the ballerina hid this video as long as he could. He was in a battle for re-election.

IMO First degree murder is not going to stick.

Friends and family there said that the police were on the protesters with every move they made. Unless absolute anarchy breaks out Chicago will not burn, CPD will not get a stand down order, nor will CPD stand down if they do get the order.

I am interested in knowing how much finical damage the BLM did on Black Friday. It is going to be hard to tell because all brick and mortar stores were down and cyber buying is up. I was told that Rue 21 was blocked by the BLM crowd but even that was stopped by CPD a couple other stores were blocked but I don't know which ones. Basically they were loud obnoxious and intimidating but CPD didn't allow for wilding.

Meanwhile Obama is trying to make people believe that man made climate change is the biggest danger that the world faces :77 Cheerio!
