It looks like the Japanese win against SA was an aberration... they are getting hammered by Scotland

Final score: Scot 45 - 10 Jap

5 tries to Scotland, and so they earn a bonus point

Rugby World Cup preview

Thursday, Sept 24
New Zealand vs. Namibia, London
20:00 local, 19:00 GMT, 7:00 NZ, 14:00 CDT

By Rob Bartlett, Assistant Editor, ESPN.co.uk | September 23, 2015

Image
New Zealand's Sonny Bill Williams was imperious after coming off the bench against Argentina Mike Hewitt/Getty Images

Key head-to-head

In front of Sunday's record crowd at Wembley, Sonny Bill Williams came on and changed the game for the All Blacks. The cross-code wing has been rewarded with a start and, given the space and time to do so, will make John Deysel's life a misery for 80 or so minutes. If New Zealand are to break that record win set by the Wallabies, Sonny Bill will be key in helping do so.

Key stats

  • This will be the first ever Test match between the two nations. Of the 19 other nations playing at the World Cup, New Zealand have never faced three - Namibia, Georgia and Uruguay. They face Georgia in Cardiff next match.
  • New Zealand have never lost a match in the pool stage at a World Cup - they've won 25 out of 25 group matches.
  • Namibia have lost all 15 of their matches at a World Cup. Should they concede 26 points on Thursday, they will become the second team (after Japan) to concede 1000 points at a World Cup.

Odds

There is absolutely no value in a New Zealand win - so this is the game to take advantage of Unibet's Player Specials. You can get inviting odds of 33/25 for Sonny Bill Williams to score at least two tries in the match. Nehe Milner-Skuder to bag a hat trick is 33/20 with the same company.

Weather

Scattered showers are forecast throughout Thursday in Stratford, but the rain should clear up before the 8pm kick-off. Temperature should be around 13 degrees Celsius with a slight north-easterly wind.

Prediction

There has been much talk of the All Blacks dishing out severe punishment and beating Australia's record win. While entirely possible, victories for both Japan and Georgia have energised the lower ranked nations against the big boys. It will be a big victory for New Zealand - probably by 100 points or so - but expect Namibia to defend at all costs.

I dont drink anything stronger than Red Bull... normally.....but....

I decided I needed BEER for Wales V Eng rugby world cup game :cool

And.... Tiger beer was one of best prices I found today... so got 12-pack.. and it comes with a FREE large bottle 650ml ( a bit over a pint)... THAT is the standard size Sold on the street in Singapore, and as I expected it is genuine imported from Singapore ( as opposed to small bottles, made under license in NZ)

Wales playing Rugby ( against the English), a Tiger beer, and a cigarette.... life does not get much better than that!!

Royals divided over England-Wales crunch clash

ESPN Staff | Sept 22, 2015

Wales' highly-anticipated World Cup clash against England on Saturday will have the added spice of a Royal rivalry.

Prince William, vice patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, has urged Warren Gatland's side to beat their English rivals in the Pool A encounter at Twickenham to keep his brother Prince Harry quiet.

"Unfortunately, I will be watching you with my brother, so I will need a Wales win more than ever," the Duke of Cambridge said while presenting the Wales players with their caps during the team's official World Cup welcome at London's Guildhall on Monday.

Gatland, his players and his staff were in fine voice as they sang the Welsh hymn Ar Lan-y-mor, but the Prince remained jovial. "Thank God the Welsh team play rugby better than they sing," he joked.

England vs Wales: Six Key Players To Watch

As the second weekend off the 2015 Rugby World Cup falls upon us, there is no question as to which fixture will attract most attention.

In the 28 years of the tournament’s history, it’s hard to envisage any clash that has been so pivotal, at such an early stage.

Both teams won with bonus points first time out but a defeat here could wreak havoc on either sides ultimate title aspirations. Usually when two Tier One nations meet at the pool stage of a World Cup it is to decide who progresses as pool winners or runners up.

Yet given the shark infested nature of Pool A, such luxuries have been long removed. A defeat here may not necessarily pull the World Cup curtain down for either team, but a win would certainly leave the victor with a little bit of breathing space.

[...]
7- Sam Warburton (Wales): When the two captains meet for the coin toss , the Cardiff man will glance across at his opposite number and see an opponent he can relate to. Both captains will wear the openside jersey, and will carry the hopes of their nations, despite having their positions in their respective teams regularly questioned.

15 - Liam Williams (Wales): The whole of Wales would have grimaced watching Leigh Halfpenny being carted from the Millennium Stadium turf against Italy in their final World Cup warm up game a month ago, yet in a perverse way his injury could have a positive effect on this Welsh outfit.

3- Tomas Francis (Wales): For 11 years Welsh management lived an untroubled existence, safe in the knowledge that their scrum would be anchored down by the imperious Adam Jones. However having been jettisoned from the squad entirely for the 6 Nations this year, Jones announced his international retirement and the Welsh have been fretting since.

Prolly not the time to ask with 'important' game starting :84 but :wall

Is Pool A similar to NFL division wild card seeding for final play offs towards Super Bowl?

LR... Read the thread!! :RTFM

WALES V England

As commentator just said.. a game anticipated for THREE YEARS.. from when schedule first announced

The importance of Pool A is it contains 3 top teams... only 2 get through to next round.

This game could well decide England or WALES

Besides... England V Wales... is age old HUGE rivalry!! ALWAYS!!
