Court has adjourned for the weekend.
Testimony resumes at 9:00AM EST on Monday.

Surely the judge will allow video cameras next week. :)

On Friday, the jury was also shown footage of Chism dragging a recycling bin through the hall.
He is said to have used the bin to dispose of his teacher's body.

The stick Philip Chism allegedly used to assault his math teacher Colleen Ritzer before burying her in a shallow grave was held up in his murder trial on Friday.

Both the mothers of the defendant and the victim bowed their heads as police described to the jury the gruesome assault Ritzer, 24, endured in October 2013 as she was slowly beaten to death on the grounds of Danvers High School in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Chism, who was 14 at the time of the murder, appeared stoic and emotionless throughout the testimony. He has admitted the brutal killing and pleads not guilty on the grounds of insanity.

Prosecutor Kate MacDougall also held up a hand-written note found near the shallow grave that reads 'I hate you all' and Chism's ID, which was found ten feet from the grave.

The jury was then shown a series of clips of surveillance footage taken from the school's security cameras.

I have not followed details of this case. It seems to me his "guilt" is not in doubt... the trial comes down to assessing IF he was insane or not.

Chism continued to sit, frozen except for his quickly blinking eyes.

He raped her twice, said MacDougall, once in the bathroom with his penis, and once in the woods with a stick after carting her off in a recycle bin. He went back to school with blood running down his pants, and changed into his soccer uniform before ditching practice to go shopping with her credit card and catch a movie. Police found him later that night, walking by the side of the highway.

When it was Chism's attorney's time to speak, she didn't deny any of his actions. Chism is a killer who did "unspeakable things," admitted Denise Regan.

"This is about why did this happen," the lawyer argued. "The answer is he was severely mentally ill."

Judge Lowy dismisses the jury until Monday, November 30th at 9:00AM.
He estimates the jury will get the case to deliberate around December 11th.
He strongly suggests jury members delay going back to work this week.
He gave strict, lengthy instructions not to discuss the case around the table on Thanksgiving. ;)

Judge asked the parties to be back at 2:00PM today to argue motions.

I see what you mean about ANNOYING defense lawyer cross examining M.E. :wall

I didn't KNOW there was any question that she was Dead by the time he got her to the woods? I guess the defense point is that you can not "rape" a dead body? But.... murder and rape the way he did it in the bathroom SHOULD be enough for LWOP?

LOL, I noticed that also. She sure was "working it" .. :D

And the Judge is going to decide tomorrow if the rape in the woods stands.

After watching the surveillance video, I am convinced he knew exactly what he was doing and carefully planned it! He's no more crazy than I am. ;) The defense has had time to coach him into acting crazy, but he can't fool the doctors.

The teen who allegedly raped and murdered his high school maths teacher in a crime that shocked the nation tortured cats before he went on to kill, investigators believe.

Officers in 15-year-old Philip Chism’s home state of Tennessee are following up a lead that the soccer star – who is accused of slashing beloved Colleen Ritzer’s throat and brutalizing her body – got a twisted thrill from setting pet cats on fire.

The revelation is the first suggestion that the shy and seemingly well-behaved freshman may have had violent tendencies prior to October’s horrific killing in Danvers, Massachusetts.
