O.J. Simpson was seen laughing as he made his way back into a Las Vegas courtroom on Monday to ask for a new trial in the armed robbery-kidnapping case that sent him to prison in 2008.

In spite of the former murder suspect's repeat appearances in court throughout the past few decades, he felt it appropriate to laugh and smile throughout his Monday hearing when he was looking for the judge to rule on his behalf in order to get out of a 33-year sentence.

Today's appearance was the first the the former football star made in a number of years, and he looked noticeably heavier in the blue prison uniform than he has in the past.

Simpson, 65, and a new set of lawyers hope to convince a judge during the hearing that trial lawyer Yale Galanter had conflicted interests and shouldn't have handled Simpson's case.

He entered the courtroom in handcuffs, flanked by guards and nodded and raised his eyebrows to acknowledge people he recognized in the second row.

A marshal had warned people in the audience not to try to communicate with Simpson, and they kept to the ruling as no words were exchanged.

Simpson is serving nine to 33 years in a Nevada prison for kidnapping, armed robbery, and conspiracy stemming from an incident where he and four other men confronted a group in a Las Vegas hotel room, alleging that the group was trying to sell sports memorabilia that belonged to him

OJ Simpson is due to take the stand at a Las Vegas court later as he attempts to get his conviction for armed robbery overturned.

The 65-year-old was jailed for allegedly leading a gang of five men who robbed two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2007.

Simpson, a former football star and actor, is seeking a retrial on the ground that the original hearing in 2008 was unfair.

He claims his lawyer, Yale Galanter, gave him bad advice and had conflicting interests.

On Tuesday, Galanter's former friend and co-counsel, Gabriel Grasso, gave further evidence at Clark County Court on Simpson's behalf.

He said he and Galanter decided to focus their case on Simpson's insistence that he did not know any members of the gang were armed.

Their other line of defence was that Simpson only wanted to retrieve property he believed had been stolen from him after his acquittal in 1995 of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend in Los Angeles.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – The lawyer who unsuccessfully defended O.J. Simpson against armed robbery charges testified Friday his client knew two companions had guns in a 2007 confrontation with memorabilia dealers.

Miami attorney Yale Galanter contradicted much of Simpson's earlier testimony while under questioning at a hearing in which his former client is seeking a new trial on grounds of ineffective legal representation.

Galanter testified the former football hero confided to him that he had indeed asked two men to bring guns to the hotel room confrontation and "he knew he screwed up."

Galanter hesitated and spoke only after he paused, breathed deeply and was reminded that Simpson had waived attorney-client privilege.

"I'm very uncomfortable doing this," Galanter said.

He said that based on conversations with Simpson, his then-client had asked the two others to bring guns.

"He said, 'The other guys had guns and I didn't,'" Galanter said.

On the basis of that, Galanter said he made the decision not to claim at trial that Simpson couldn't see the guns in the hotel room.

"To argue that he had tunnel vision and didn't see these guns was absurd to me," Galanter said.

Original Sentencing Judge Jackie Glass Says O.J. Simpson Deserves to Stay in Jail

Jackie Glass is the judge who presided over the trial that sent O.J. Simpson to jail in 2008, who sentenced Simpson to 9 to 33 years in federal prison on conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon charges.

In an exclusive new interview with "omg! Insider" correspondent Christina McLarty, Glass shares her opinion on Simpson's current hearing in Nevada to have his conviction overturned.

"A jury found him guilty of many serious charges and when you are convicted of those charges the only option, as a judge, was to send him to prison," Glass states. "Because of the jury’s verdict, O.J. deserves to be in prison."

Those are stern words indeed from Glass, who's more than familiar with the case and with Simpson. O.J.'s testimony continued today, and tomorrow his former attorney Yale Galanter will take the stand. Galanter's the man O.J. blames for having given him bad legal advice.

"I watched that trial because I was the judge that presided over it and I saw the legal work that was done," explains Glass. "Yale Galanter is a fine lawyer and did an outstanding job. The evidence in that case was overwhelming."

"Does he have a chance?" McLarty asks. "Does he have a case here, and what could happen?"

Unfortunately for O.J., Glass doesn't think he has much of a case. "My opinion is no. The judge that's hearing this listens," she continues. "She knows O.J. is trying to get out of prison and that he – like all the other people who try to get out of prison – are gonna say things so that they can get out. That's what's going on here."

Lawyers wrapped up O.J. Simpson’s post-conviction hearing Friday after a week of testimony, but they expect to wait another two to four weeks to learn whether he will be granted a new trial in his robbery case.

District Judge Linda Bell adjourned the hearing late Friday afternoon and said she would issue a written decision as soon as possible.

June 12, 1994: O.J. Simpson's ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and friend Ronald Goldman are found dead in Los Angeles. Simpson is arrested after a widely televised freeway chase in his white Ford Bronco.

Oct. 3, 1995: Simpson is acquitted of two counts of murder after the "trial of the century" in Los Angeles.

February 1997: Simpson is found liable for damages in a civil wrongful death lawsuit and ordered to pay $33.5 million to Goldman, Nicole Brown Simpson estates.

Oct. 24, 2001: Simpson is cleared of all charges in a Florida case involving an alleged road-rage incident.

O.J. Simpson gets parole hearing, no chance for release

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — OJ Simpson's Nevada criminal case goes to a parole board later this month for part of his 2008 conviction in the kidnapping and armed robbery of two sports collectible dealers.

But there's no chance the former National Football League Hall of Famer and Hollywood star will go free — even if parole is granted.

Simpson was convicted of 12 criminal counts and sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison after the 2007 robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas hotel room. He has been serving his time at Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada.

The parole hearing is scheduled for July 25, according to documents posted Wednesday by the Nevada Parole Board.

The agenda indicates Simpson's parole consideration is for the kidnapping conviction. However, Simpson, who just turned 66, was given multiple sentences, some of which were ordered to be served consecutively.

That means he must complete his time or be paroled on some charges before he begins to serve his other sentences.

O.J. Simpson pleads with Nevada parole board to cut prison term

(CNN) -- O.J. Simpson is 66 and has spent nearly all of his seventh decade in a Nevada prison after his conviction on kidnapping, armed robbery and other charges for busting into a Las Vegas casino to try to reclaim items he felt were rightfully his.

And he's had enough.

His nearly five years in custody "have been somewhat illuminating at times and painful a lot of times," Simpson told two Nevada parole board members Thursday via closed-circuit TV from prison.

"I missed my two younger kids who worked hard getting through high school, I missed their college graduations," he said, seemingly emotional as he talked. "I missed my sister's funeral. I missed all the birthdays."

The football legend could learn whether he'll have less time to spend in prison in two weeks, when the parole board comes back with its decision.

Two years after JP Morgan Chase filed to foreclose on the house, a Miami-Dade County judge has signed off on a motion for summary judgment, reports Gossip Extra.

The bank will take possession of the disgraced sports star’s house on Tuesday. It has set October 29 as the auction date

Former football star O.J. Simpson won’t win a new trial on his October 2008 Las Vegas conviction on armed robbery and kidnapping charges.

Clark County Judge Linda Marie Bell, who heard Simpson’s appeal over five days of testimony in May, denied Simpson’s petition on Tuesday.

Simpson’s attorney Patricia Palm, when contacted about the ruling, had not yet had time to finish reading the 100-page decision but said, “We’re shocked and we’re disappointed.”

O.J. Simpson is receiving tests for brain cancer and is begging President Barack Obama for a pardon so he can die in peace at home, according to a new report.

The jailed former football legend, who is serving out a kidnapping, assault and robbery sentence in a Nevada prison, is undergoing secret medical exams for a cancerous tumor in his brain and is convinced he hasn't got long to live, The National Enquirer reports.

The publication reported just months ago that the 66-year-old had such an extreme case of diabetes that his life was at risk and brain cancer would certainly add to his health woes.

'O.J. says his memory is slipping and he gets painful headaches and other symptoms,' a source told The Enquirer, listing blurry vision, occasional stuttering and hearing problems as other concerns. He also at times feels confused and has unusual bursts of anger and fits of depression.
