What might be of more use.. is brain slice sections viewed under a microscope... that does require Chism be dead and his brain removed for examination... It's standard practice though... on rats and pigeons.

This causes the 20-day delay during jury selection, when Chism refused to leave his cell & required another "psych evaluation", to be more critical than it appeared at the time. Down to the wire.

DANVERS — When the proceedings started Thursday morning, there was already concern that the closing arguments in the trial of accused killer Philip Chism would be delayed after a last-minute motion by the defense to present more evidence.

By the end of the day, it was certain that there will be no closing arguments in the case until Monday at the earliest, but it was for a different reason: Chism’s lead defense attorney, Denise Regan, went home sick with what was described as “an intestinal virus” and was “too ill to proceed with closings” Friday.

“I don’t know if she knows when she’s going to be back on her feet,” her co-counsel, John Osler, told Salem Superior Court Judge David Lowy.

The announcement sent Peggie Ritzer, the mother of Chism’s victim, Colleen Ritzer, out of the courtroom in tears, after prosecutor Kate MacDougall told the judge, “There’s a human cost to any delay in this case.”

I'm sure the Judge has past experience and certain remedies in these situations, BUT I call BS on this one.

Get her on a Z-pack along with a dose of Imodium and she SHOULD BE back in the Courtroom on Monday. Meanwhile, one of the other two attorneys should be preparing for closing.

Attorneys for Philip Chism and the prosecutors trying to convict him are expected to give their closing arguments Monday, then hand the case over to jurors.

Jurors will decide on four counts—first-degree murder, armed robbery and two counts of aggravated rape. He could be sentenced to life in prison on the murder charge alone, though with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Chism’s attorneys aren’t contesting whether Chism killed Ritzer, but argue he should be found not guilty by reason of insanity and sent to a state hospital.

In order to convict him of first-degree murder, jurors must find that Chism acted with deliberate, premeditated malice, or with extreme atrocity or cruelty, or while in the commission or attempted commission of another felony—such as aggravated rape.

Jurors could also choose to find him not guilty by reason of insanity, meaning he’d be committed to Bridgewater State Hospital. Attorneys said if that happened, he’d be given one-on-one supervision until he turned 18.
