My favorite song written by Leonard is Hallelujah, but my favorite performance of it is by Jeff Buckley

Hallelujah Jeff Buckley

It's a great song... that's a great version.

I do like to find "cover versions" of songs... different interpretations by different artists. Also different versions by original artists... live versions (sometimes) or acoustic versions etc.

It is a perfect song for playing in the car, while driving on long country roads, as loud as one can bear it :)

For instance I love the song "Without You"... sung by Harry Nilsson... (actually written by Members of Welsh Group "Badfinger")

I came across a "Demo" version by Nilsson... the raw emotion is apparent

Both versions....

For completeness... Pete Ham (Badfinger) original.... I have to say.. I always regarded Nilsson version as the original. I only found out about the Badfinger connection years later.

I found Loving Arms on Dobies "Drift Away" CD which is the only song I had ever heard by him until I bought the CD (about 5 years ago) I had it playing in the office and I started crying when Loving Arms played, :10 .

It was quite a good laugh for a few folks :TF

For PPK.....

Leonard Cohen - The Traitor

Oh, Rumpole, THANKS!!

Recently I listened to this song for three days straight.

First day, I just loved the music and listened to that. I was on the Internet a lot, writing and reading (probably about OP), and put it on repeat as background.

Then, I began to wonder what the heck the song was about, love or war or what? I was picking up certain phrases, but hadn't listened to all the words of the whole song. So, I listened for another eight or so hours. I still had no idea what the song was about, but thought it was just an amazing song, full of such imagery of 19th century novels, love, war, or what?! Out of desperation, I finally googled it for the "meaning."

After that, I listened for another whole day, trying to understand the scholarly meaning of "courtly love," and how some of the more bizarre images and phrases related to THAT! I still don't know. :give

I am a "hopeless Romantic"... the song is about "Love"... or more precisely lack of it in a relationship.. IMO

Images and references to war etc.... IMO.. still relate back to the theme of the relationship... there is a LOT about that in LC's songs... he put himself about a bit :cool

I don’t upload a lot of songs... most are already on YT.. but I do when all the videos are off-putting as far as my interpretation of the lyrics goes. I would rather just have the song and a still picture... I usually do only slightly more than that.. with a few pics.

Love it too, and it's one of my favorite songs also. This is really when we need a "Thanks" button! Just for here so we can appreciate music! :rose

These are two great ones on the same album with "Hallelujah" and "The Traitor."

Leonard's debut album (1967) was Songs of Leonard Cohen... I was an instant "fan" despite it being out of step with a lot of the music around then... I was in a very small minority as I recall.

I think every song on that album is a gem.

I will post it in "Full album" thread... unless I already have....

One from that....

Leonard Cohen-one of us cannot be wrong (original)

Yes, about the song. It is about love or love and betrayal (lack of it). Still, that song haunts me with some of that imagery. Wow. I would love to post songs with a still photo. Do you need software if the song has video on youtube?

And the siggy. I saw you had just come in and put it there! There it was, and I thought I had typed it twice!! :fish I started with Dashiell Hammett and ended with wanting something from that song. It's great, and "Thank you." Now, I need to figure out why it didn't work when I tried. :cat :cat :cat

Look at your edit siggy thing now... you can at least see what I did.

I do what I do online with somewhat out-dated set-up.

I do most YT's as PowerPoint slide shows. I found a program online to convert them to .flv video... which I can upload to YT... most video formats you can upload to YT. The converter had a "watermark" across vids in the free version.. so I did eventually pay for legit version.
You can also use windows movie maker and work with clips.
