Reeva told him that if he wanted to spend time with his family that night he could.

She said: "I'm going to go home at 6, please stay and doing whatever you are going to do"

Reeva said it was a difficult thing to console him on.

Just to recap on events from this morning so far.

We've heard more text messages shared between Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp in the weeks before he shot her dead.

There were a lot of loving messages and both said that they liked each other and shared a lot of kisses - no actual mention of love though.

Pistorius also revealed that Reeva received hate messages on Twitter when their relationship first became public.

At one point he suggested that his ex girlfriend Samantha Taylor had set up fake accounts to target Reeva.

Taylor went on Twitter today to say: "Last lies you get to tell.. You better make it worth your while"

Reeva got at least one of the Twitter accounts disabled.

In the messages between Pistorius and Reeva he said that he was besotted with her and said they had been talking about future plans including decorating a house in Johannesburg that he was in the process of buying.

He continues to deny that he killed her deliberately on Valentine's Day last year.

Roux is now talking about the firearm charges, specifically the one where he is accused of firing a gun through a car sunroof while with Sam Taylor.

Pistorius said that the previous night he was at a wedding then the next morning he, Taylor and Mr Fresco spent the day together.

They were travelling in Justin Davaris's car - his best friend - Fresco was driving on the way back.

Pistorius was in the front passenger seat of the car and they left in the middle of the afternoon.

He had to catch a flight that afternoon to Scotland.

Speaking about the discharging of the gun, Pistorius said: "It never happened, my lady".

After they retrieved the bullet he didn't want to know any more and the officer went back to smoking.

Pistorius said he was "agitated in my manner and angry that he handled my firearm".

They went back to Justin Divaris's house then went out to eat. He left for Scotland later that evening.

Pistorius said he had a licence but that he didn't want to approach police with the gun.

He said the officer lost his temper, lit a cigarette and walked away.

One of the bullets had been ejected from the chamber and Pistorius wanted to find it.

Another officer helped him, the original officer was called back to help because it had fallen down the side of the seat.

Pistorius said he was agitated at this point and that he could not leave until the bullet had been put back in the chamber.

There was a discussion between the officers. One asked whose gun it was on the passenger seat.

Pistorius said it was his and asked to have it back. He said he didn't want to approach the police with a firearm with him.

He said the police were aggressive and removed the magazine from the gun.

They asked Fresco to get out of the vehicle, which he did. A police car arrived a short time later and the cops spoke to Fresco.

Pistorius said he always carried a firearm with him.

He put the gun on the seat of the car to get out to try and diffuse the situation.

One officer said they had been following the car for several kilometres.

They were about to go onto the N1 highway near the Vaal river and there was a police officer there.

Mr Fresco was pulled over - the vehicle didn't have a registration plate on the front and he was given a ticket which he threw into the passenger footwell.

He said a friend was visiting from the UK and he agreed to meet with him at Tashas restaruant.

Moving on to count four about possession of .38 rounds of ammunition.

He said he had never owned a .38 calbire firearm or ammunition. That was his father's and it was at Oscar's house for "safekeeping".

He said that it was within the law and that he had no intention of ever using it.

He left with Mr Rooney, spoke to Kevin Larena who had a small trickle of blood on his leg.

He apologised for what had happened and they left.

Pistorius agreed to pay for any damage and said "it's my fault".

He added that "I was just relieved at that point no one had got hurt."

He paid the bill on the credit card and told Mr Loupis again that he was sorry.

Mrs Loupis came over before the bill was paid and she was talking in a jokey manner with Mr Fresco. She said something to the effect of "You crazy someone could have got hurt".

Pistorius said he didn't remember saying anything about the media. He said that he "couldn't afford for it to get out" and that it would be misinterpreted in the worst way possible.

He asked Mr Fresco if he understood the severity of what had happened.

He agreed to take the blame for what happened.

Pistorius said that he believed they were both to blame. Him for asking to see the gun in a restaurant, Fresco for being careless and giving him a gun that was loaded.

"He told me not to say anything."

Pistorius asked to look at Mr Fresco's gun. He said "It was stupid of me".

He wanted to look to see if there was a slot for a flashlight.

He took it from him, was sitting in the corner, wanted to check it was safe - meaning that it wasn't loaded.

"As I checked the chamber a round came out of the breach", he said. Then the firearm discharged.

He was overcome with fear that someone might have been hurt.

"I couldn't really believe what had happened," he said. He added that he was angry at Mr Fresco and gave the gun back to him.

He arrived home at just after 6pm on the Thursday evening.

That day he says he woke up in his house in Pretoria and Reeva had slept over.

He left early to skip the traffic because he didn't want to be late for his meeting in Johannesburg.

He had no training because of his shoulder injury. He thought after the meeting he would see Reeva.

He said that while Reeva was making dinner he was talking on his iPad, surfing the internet and looking at cars that he "wanted to get around to during the day to have a look at."

The door was locked and the dogs were running around.

Reeva was preparing dinner in the kitchen and the pair chatted.

He went upstairs to get changed and showered and went downstairs at around 7pm.

Mr Divaris said he was meeting a friend for dinner. His girlfriend asked Pistorius what he was up to that afternoon.

He told her that they were having dinner and she said that she was in the mood to watch a movie. She asked Reeva if she wanted to join her, but Reeva responded that she preferred to stay with Oscar for another night.

Reeva offered to cook for them and he got home at about 6pm.

He put two fans in the room close to one another to circulate the air.

He closed the doors until they were in line with the fan to prevent insects coming in.

He drew the blinds and curtains to stop the bugs, draped around the side of the standing fan.

At around 8pm he went into the bedroom and opened the balcony doors because it was a very humid evening.

They had been working on his house for some time and the air con wasn't working.

Normally they would have watched TV together but they were tired.

Pistorius said: "I went back upstairs, and she joined me a short time afterwards. A couple of minutes after."

After dinner they sat at the dining table for a while chatting about his day and her contract that she was signing.

There is an alarm system in the house but he said there were troubles with the outside sensors.

He activated the alarm with a remote on his house keys.

He locked the bedroom door "as I do every night" and put his cricket back against it.

He said he had problems with the locks before because with the heat the gap between the door and the frame was bigger.

He said the door was blocked by the cricket bat every night when he is at home.

This is so he can sleep because of his odd sleeping pattern because of all the travelling he does.

He went back into the room, took his prosthetic legs off to allow them to get air, putting them as close to the door as he could.

Reeva got onto the bed as well and they sat chatting with the TV on.

He was texting his cousin in Port Elizabeth while Reeva was on her phone and was showing him pictures of cars and interior decorations that she liked.

He called his cousin, Graham Binge, who was coming for a business meeting. They chatted about cars and Pistorius asked if his Golf GTi was a safe car for him to drive in.

Pistorius's voice is breaking now as he gives evidence.

He said that he had bought her a bracelet from a designer that she liked for Valentine's Day.

The next day they weren't due to do anything because originally she was not going to stay over.

They both made a thing of not making a big thing about Valentine's Day. They were just going to have dinner together.

When asked if Reeva bought him something for Valentine's Day, Pistorius said that there was a wrapped present on the kitchen counter for him that said "Ozzy".

It wasn't usual for him to sleep on that side of the bed but because of his shoulder injury he couldn't sleep on his right shoulder.

That's where he had been sleeping for a couple of weeks.

He started falling asleep and getting tired, despite it being so warm.

Reeva was awake and sitting up against the headboard. Pistorius was watching something on TV but he couldn't remember what he was watching.

They had a conversation about cars she was looking at online.

He became increasingly tired and asked her to bring the fans in and lock the door when she was going to sleep, then he dropped off.

Reeva did some Yoga while he was on the phone. The phone was on loud speaker while he chatted to his cousin for about half an hour.

Every now and then Reeva would give him a kiss.

Reeva went to the bathroom as the call was ended. She called him to brush his teeth. Afterwards he walked to the closer side of the bed to the bathroom.

Earlier in the evening he had put his gun under the bed.

He is in a long-sleeve shirt instead of his suit.

He has sat down on a chair close to the door and is removing his prosthetic legs.

He noticed that the fans were still running and the door was still open but the lights were off.

He took it out of the holster. At that point he said he wanted to get back to the passage to put himself between the person that had gone into his house and Reeva.

We says he was scared that the person could already be in the closet passage.

He had his firearm extended in front of him. He says he whispered for Reeva to get down and phone the police.

He said he immediately thought that if they were at the window they could be there at any moment.

The first thing that ran through his mind was to arm himself "to protect Reeva and I" and that he needed to get his gun.

"I was looking down the passage scared that the person was going to come out".

He ran with his hand out in front of him and made his way along the side of the bed where he got hold of his firearm.

Asked what he thought at the time he said: "My lady that's the moment that everything changed. I thought there was a burglar that was gaining entry into my home."

Initially he said he froze, he thought it was someone coming into his bathroom.

He went back into the room. The only light was a small LED on the amplifier where the TV was.

He could see a pair of Reeva's jeans on the floor and was going to place them over the amplifier to cover the light.

He said he then heard the window slide open in the bathroom.
