Well she knows it's over for her or she has to know it so maybe it's just a case of someone wanting one last chance to be in limelight. Didn't she ask for the DP way back.

That was just grandstanding Packy. Before the verdict she said if jury found her guilty she wanted death rather than life in prison. She is now GUILTY and clearly wants to dodge the needle.

I think it is a travesty that she has been able to manipulate the system and drag things out this long... at cost of many millions of $

And it's all about HER in the spotlight still. And..... there ar many yeras to go with appeals etc. and her paintings and tweets from prison etc. I assume the Judge COULD have sentenced her to LWOP? She should have just done that, because Jodi is not going to get the needle any time soon (if at all) and she is getting her rocks off still with trials and appeals. Also burning up money at about the rate of the Obama Government ( on a much smaller scale)

A judge granted Arias the right to represent herself on Monday, and assigned her attorneys, Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott, as her legal advisors. Nurmi had tried to resign in 2011; Arias wants to fire him.

On Monday, convicted killer Jodi Arias was granted permission to act as her own lawyer in her impending September retrial to determine if she is sentenced to life or death.

On Friday, her lead attorney, Kirk Nurmi, asked the court to let him quit.

Arias, 34, is supposed to start picking a new jury Sept. 8. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens approved Arias' motion to represent herself, and appointed Nurmi and his second-chair attorney, Jennifer Willmott, as her legal advisers for the upcoming trial.

Nurmi had asked to be removed from the case in 2011, but an earlier judge denied the motion. With Friday's filing, Nurmi asks for reconsideration because the situation has changed.

Convicted killer Jodi Arias revealed in court Wednesday that she will cease to represent herself if defense attorney Kirk Nurmi is removed from the case.

It was Arias' first appearance on her own behalf, and in a barely audible voice she expressed her frustrations in trying to interview witnesses and file motions while locked in a Maricopa County jail. She asked for a delay to the trial, which is scheduled to start jury selection Sept. 8, because she has been unable to interview one of her expert witnesses.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez was testy; he hadn't read Arias' motions. He dropped one of his own on Arias' table. And he questioned who Arias' witnesses would be. He didn't get an answer.

Arias, 34, has already been convicted of first-degree murder in the brutal 2008 slaying of her lover, Travis Alexander, who was found in the shower of his Mesa home with nearly 30 stab wounds, a slit throat and a bullet in his head. The 2013 jury that convicted her was unable to reach a unanimous verdict as to whether she should be sentenced to death or to life in prison. That decision will be made by the jury in the upcoming retrial.

I think it's a good idea to let Nurmi off the case. If he doesn't want to work with her and she with him, then why not if she has someone representing her. I think it's dumb to represent yourself, and will cause pain and frustration to the victims family (which is probably one of the many reasons she wants to do it), but it is her right. I have no idea on what the law is about the trouble with interviewing experts or witnesses from jail, but it's her fault that she's in jail and she should have taken that into consideration when she chose to represent herself. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a scheme to get rid of Nurmi. Poor Juan having to deal one on one with the killer he got convicted.

This is what I predicted, I think this is no surprise. She is a woman who likes to be seen.

It's hard to imagine that this case goes back years, but what she did to that guy is horrendous. I wish i could get my head round the American justice system, try as I might, I cannot. For one thing, even if she was sentenced to life, or the death penalty, because of the time involved (someone please explain why) to appeal one appeal after another - she could still be in prison awaiting the death penalty many years from now - I just cannot comprehend this.

Furthermore, I don't think it's right - she's already been found guilty, so within weeks she should have been sentenced - new trial or not - it's beginning to make me angry about the whole thing.
