It is sick and senseless. The grandmother not understanding why they didn't give the baby to her. So sad for all. :(

The father has had six children taken away by CPS (I don't know details).
They had an infant son that died a few years ago at 8 weeks old from "acute kidney failure". I hope the parents stay locked up and away from each other. smh

Sheriff's Deputy Shot Dead by Suspect he was Monitoring at Minnesota Hospital
By Emily Shapiro | ABC News | October 18, 2015, 400PM

A veteran sheriff's deputy was shot and killed at a Minnesota hospital this morning by a suspect whom he had been monitoring, officials said.

Aitkin County Sheriff’s Investigator Steven Martin Sandberg was monitoring the welfare of Danny Leroy Hammond at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Sandberg, 60, had worked at the Sheriff’s Office for 24 years. Hammond, 50, was the subject of an investigation in Aitkin County, officials said.

Around 5:15 a.m., Hammond got out of his hospital bed and "engaged in an altercation" with Sandberg, officials said. Hammond then took Sandberg's gun and shot him, officials said.

A hospital security guard came into the room and used a Taser on Hammond, officials said. Hammond then "experienced a medical emergency" and both Sandberg and Hammond were taken to the hospital's emergency trauma center.

Both the officer and the suspect died, officials said.

By Mary Wisniewski | Reuters | October 18, 2015

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A Chicago man has been charged with child endangerment after his three-year-old son was shot and killed by his six-year-old brother while the two were playing "cops and robbers," police said on Sunday.

The six-year-old found the loaded revolver on top of the refrigerator and shot little brother Eian Santiago in the head on Saturday evening, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The older brother's name was not disclosed.

The boys' father, Michael Santiago, 25, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, a felony, police said. He appeared in court on Sunday and is being held on a $75,000 bond, according to DNAinfo.com Chicago, a local news web site.

[...]
At the bond hearing, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Joseph DiBella said the shooting happened when the children were in the care of their grandfather while Santiago was at work and his wife was at the store with a younger child, age one, according to DNAinfo.com.

Santiago had shown the six-year-old the gun a week before, telling him it was only for adults, DiBella said, according to the web site. The gun had been wrapped in pajama pants.

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – One suspect died at the hospital from injuries after being shot by a Tampa police officer in the Villa Largo area, south of Carrollwood, following a pursuit early Monday morning. Police have apprehended three others in the incident as well.

Tampa Police Spokesman Steve Hegarty says the situation started around 2:30 a.m. after officers ran a tag on a stolen vehicle in downtown Tampa. A total of four suspects – three males and one female, all teenagers – were in the vehicle. Hegarty says rather than pursuing the SUV, a police helicopter kept an eye on the car and followed it to an area near Humphrey Street and Grady Ave.

Hegarty says the suspects left the car in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church of Tampa at 4307 Humphrey St. and fled into a wooded, swampy area behind the church.

TPD K-9 Officer Jimmy Houston pursued the suspects. One suspect was shot after a scuffle with police and attempting to drown both the K-9 Titus and Officer Houston in the swamp, Hegarty says. Both the officer and the police dog are being checked out, but did not suffer serious injuries.

[...]
Two other male suspects were apprehended after the incident. The fourth suspect, a female, hid in the woods near Humphrey Street and Grady Ave. for more than two hours, and was taken into custody around 6:30 a.m.

They were identified as Dominic Robles, 18, and Shakira Rodriguez, also 18. The third male suspect is 16 years old, and TPD didn’t reveal his identity. Their charges are pending.

Up to 10,000 stolen guns, 500 chainsaws found in South Carolina home of alleged drug dealer: cops
By Jason Silverstein | New York Daily News | October 26, 2015

He sure loved his guns.

A South Carolina man arrested for drug trafficking had packed a one-man arsenal of up to 10,000 stolen guns into his home and a bunch of tractor trailers off a highway, police said.

“None of us have ever seen anything anywhere close to this,” Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks told WBTV.

More than 100 law enforcements officials Friday night raided the firearm-filled home of Brent Nicholson off Highway 9, outside the small town of Pageland. Authorities worked the scene for at least two days, and now have to go through the armory “piece to piece” to find the rightful owners of several thousand stolen weapons, Brooks said.

Nicholson even hoarded hundreds more guns at his parent's home and at a liquor store he runs with his dad, police said.

Philly-area police confirm finding needles in candy
CBS News | November 1, 2015, 4:05PM

Image

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. -- Police in Kennett Square, Chester County said early Sunday they were investigating reports of sewing needles found inside Halloween candy of several young trick-or-treaters.

On Sunday afternoon, they said a 12-year-old child turned in a Snickers bar that also contained a similar sewing-type needle. The child had been trick-or-treating in the same area as the other children who reported tainted candy, whose ages range from 7-12.

Police say they were notified at midnight Sunday from someone claiming that chocolate candy bars handed out in the Stenning Hills area of the borough had been tampered with, according to CBS Philadelphia. Authorities say sewing-type needles were found inside five wrapped Twix Candy bars given to four different children who had been trick-or-treating door to door in the area of South Union Street and West South Street.

Very few of these turn out to be anything more than pathetic folks seeking attention or stupid kids prank gone places kid never expected. Some versions of this news story include references to Retnoldsburg OH razor in snickers bars reports....days after locals all knew there was no danger or tampered candy passed out to kids.

Hey, LR! :)

It seems like it is getting worse every year, but I can also remember this happening back ages ago, only it was not reported (or in the news) like it is now. I recall a dad putting something in his own child's candy (those sour, powder-filled straws) a while back.

When working at a hospital in the 70s, I volunteered in ER on Halloween looking for contaminated candy. So it was going on way back then.

Drunken Passenger on Boston-Bound Flight Arraigned
Associated Press/NECN.com | November 18, 2015

A drunken passenger who allegedly tried to open an exit door on a London-to-Boston flight was arraigned Wednesday, is being charged with interfering with a flight crew and is due in court Wednesday.

Massachusetts State Police say they don't believe the woman's misconduct had any link to terrorism. They identified her as 32-year-old Kamila Dolniak, a citizen of Poland.

Dolniak was ordered to be heldon $500 bail and to turn over her passport. If she posts bail, she will be in the custody of INS. She can't leave the state without permission.

In court, prosecutors say she also took sleeping pills and admitted to investigators that she was in the U.S. as a prostitute. :eek

Boston resident Debby O’Leary said the woman had wanted to smoke a vapor cigarette and tried to go to the bathroom with it but was told she couldn’t.

Slain Officer Ricardo Galvez was a 'tremendous young man,' police chief says
By Veronica Rocha , Richard Winton and Cindy Chang | Los Angeles Times | November 19, 2015

Image

Officer Ricardo Galvez may not have worked for the Downey Police Department for very long, but he already was popular among his peers.

Galvez, 29, of Whittier, joined the police department as an officer in 2010 and was affectionately known by members of the community as “Ricky.”

“His smile was infectious, and his professionalism was always on display,” Downey Police Chief Carl Charles said Thursday.

Galvez’s life was cut short Wednesday night when detectives said two gunmen opened fire on the officer as he sat in his personal vehicle in the parking lot of Downey’s police headquarters.

Police arrested three people Thursday in connection with his death. Two adults and a juvenile admitted to shooting him during an attempted robbery, said Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
[...]
Galvez is the first officer to be gunned down in the department’s history.

The last time a Downey police officer was killed in the line of duty was nearly 35 years ago.

Why Minneapolis Is Erupting Over a Police-Related Shooting
By Josh Sanburn | Time.com | November 19, 2015

Protests against police have turned violent.

Was Jamar Clark handcuffed when he was shot and killed by police?

That’s the question many Minneapolis protesters are asking after the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old black man in the early morning hours Sunday following a confrontation with police officers.

On Wednesday, hundreds of demonstrators demanding answers in Clark’s death protested outside of a Minneapolis police precinct headquarters, where police erected barricades, used pepper spray against demonstrators, and attempted to take down a makeshift camp created by protesters, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Some protesters threw rocks and bricks at police and several officers were injured. Dozens of protesters have been arrested over four days of demonstrations.
[...]
Police say they were called to the scene early Sunday after Clark was interfering with paramedics who were treating a woman, who has been described as Clark’s girlfriend. At least one witness says Clark was handcuffed when he was shot. The Minneapolis police union, however, says Clark reached for an officer’s gun and was not handcuffed.

Man charged in slaying of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, warrant issued for another suspect
By Rosemary Regina Sobol and Megan Crepeau | Chicago Tribune | November 27, 2015

Image

Two suspects in the slaying of Tyshawn Lee are in custody, and an arrest warrant has been issued for a third gang member, said police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who called the shooting of the 9-year-old “an unfathomable crime” and “an assassination.”

Corey Morgan, 27, of the 7800 block of South Hoyne Avenue, is expected to appear Friday afternoon for a bond hearing on first-degree murder charges at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

At a news conference at Area South police headquarters, McCarthy said a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Kevin Edwards, 22, of Chicago, in Tyshawn’s killing as well.

A third gang member, whom McCarthy would not identify by name, is also in custody on an unrelated charge, he said.

McCarthy said police are still unraveling what roles each of the three suspects played in Tyshawn’s slaying. But he said at least one of them struck up a conversation with Tyshawn as he played basketball with friends in a nearby park and then lured him to an alley in the 8000 block of South Damen Avenue on Nov. 2 and fatally shot him in the right side of his head.

“This is a crime that shook our city,” McCarthy told reporters.

McCarthy said police believe at least two murders and a number of other retaliatory shootings over the last three months led to the decision to target Tyshawn.

Authorities deem terror threats against two West Dallas schools not credible: ‘Someone is trying to scare Dallas’
By Naheed Rajwani | The Dallas Morning News | December 17, 2015

Two West Dallas schools were the subject of threats similar to those targeting schools in Los Angeles and New York earlier this week.

The threats were sent Wednesday night by email to teachers at Pinkston High School and Martinez Elementary, according to a statement from Dallas ISD. The substance of the threats has yet to be released.

“Someone is trying to scare Dallas,” Mayor Mike Rawlings said at a news conference Thursday morning. “And that’s not going to work.”

California college gunman found unfit to stand trial
By Curtis Skinner, Reuters | Yahoo News | December 17, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A former California nursing student charged with seven counts of murder in a 2012 shooting rampage at a Christian college was found mentally unfit to stand trial on Thursday, officials said.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Gloria Rhynes ruled that South Korean-born One Goh was mentally incompetent to be tried over the April 2012 shooting at Oikos University in the Bay Area city of Oakland, said Teresa Drenick of the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

Goh has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges as well as three counts of attempted murder. Doctors have determined that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.

"My decision doesn't mean this trial will never occur, it just means it won't happen yet," Rhynes told families of the victims in court on Thursday, according to local broadcaster KTVU. "Justice is not denied, it's just delayed."
