Man wanted for shooting at Cleveland police officers

WKYC.com
September 2, 2015, 7:30PM EDT

CLEVELAND -- Police in the Fourth District Detective Bureau are currently investigating a felonious assault shooting on a police officer incident which occurred about 11 p.m. Monday.

The preliminary information reveals that officers responded to an assignment for shots fired at 3868 East 131st Street, at the ADM Dairy Mart.

Upon arrival, two white vehicles were seen parked in the lot and standing outside of the vehicles were several men and women.

One of the men pulled out a handgun and fired several shots towards the marked police vehicle which was in the curb lane of East 131st Street. At this time, the officer driving the police vehicle did back away evasively so as not to be hit by incoming fire.

Officers observed the muzzle flash on the handgun. The man then began walking toward East 131st Street, again firing the weapon 7-9 times in rapid succession.
[...]
The suspect in this case was identified as Shawn B. Hall, 26. Hall should be considered armed and dangerous.

MANHUNT CONTINUES FOLLOWING ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER IN WEST PENN TOWNSHIP; RESIDENTS TOLD TO LOCK VEHICLES

TamaquaArea.com
By Andrew Leibenguth | September 2, 2015

UPDATE: As of 11 PM, the Blue Mountain remains closed. Police are looking for a Hispanic male, 6'2" to 6'4" tall, 240-260 pounds, wearing black t-shirt and blue jeans that go below your knees, and possibly in a dark-colored Nissan Maxima.

A West Penn Township police officer was airlifted after being injured during a traffic stop this evening along West Penn Pike (SR309) on the Blue Mountain. Other online news articles identify the officer as Sergeant Melissa “Missy” Ruch.

State Police stated she was assaulted while approaching a disabled vehicle. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM near the top of the mountain.

Responding to an emergency radio ID activation, law enforcement officers found officer Ruch about 20-foot down an embankment. Rescuers utilized a Stokes basket to carry the officer up the embankment.

Officer made up story about shooting before crashing cruiser, police say

WCVB.com | Sept 03, 2015, 3:24 PM EDT

MILLIS, Mass. —A Millis police officer who said someone shot at his police cruiser Wednesday afternoon before it crashed and caught on fire is accused of fabricating the story, police said.

The officer said he was traveling on Forest Road when he saw a red or maroon pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. He said when the two vehicles met, the driver opened fire on the police cruiser, police say.

"My cruiser's been shot at. I'm at Forest Road. It's going to be a dark maroon pickup," the officer radioed to dispatch at 2:17 p.m.

The officer said he spun around, and in an attempt to avoid the gunfire and seek shelter, he slammed into a tree and the cruiser burst into flames.

A massive manhunt for the alleged gunman was launched. The neighborhood was immediately locked down while police units, including a SWAT team, K-9 officers and a Massachusetts State Police helicopter combed the area.

Millis Police Sgt. William Dwyer said the officer is new to the force and has not yet attended the police academy.

Dwyer said the officer will be terminated, and his name will not be released until the investigation is complete.

"I am very upset and don't know how to feel right now," Dwyer said. "The public is safe and should feel secure in their homes and the community."

Metro officer wounded — apparently with AK-47 — during prowler call

LasVegasSun.com
September 4, 2015 | Updated 3 hrs, 3 min ago

A veteran Las Vegas Metro Police officer suffered a gunshot wound, likely from an assault rifle, this morning while responding to a report of a prowler in the central valley, police said.

Officer Jeremy Robertson, 37, was in stable condition at University Medical Center, where he underwent successful surgery after being shot in the upper leg at a residence in the 6700 block of Oveja Circle. Authorities arrested two men in connection with the shooting — Clemon Hudson, 20, and Steven Turner, 24, both believed to be Las Vegas residents — on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer, conspiracy to commit murder and burglary with a firearm, among other counts. Officers at the scene learned of possible third suspect who may have left the scene in a white Nissan Maxima.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Turner is suspected of firing the shot that hit Robertson. Police believe the bullet came from an AK-47 rifle, Lombardo said, resulting in an injury that required titanium rods, screws and plates to be inserted in Robertson's leg.

"It's very disconcerting because of the damage that can be associated with a weapon of that type," Lombardo said. "It's designed to commit damage."
[...]
Hudson was arrested at the scene, while Turner fled and was found a couple of blocks away from the scene on Westcliff Drive.

Police said Turner was armed with a Beretta .25-caliber handgun in addition to the AK-47, and Hudson was carrying a 12-gauge shotgun.

SAUGET, Ill. (KMOV.com) -
One man is dead after a shooting at a Phillips 66 gas station in Sauget around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The chief of police said three men were getting beer and gas at a gas station when a man approached them asking for a beer.

An argument occurred and their beer fell to the ground, spraying the suspect, authorities said.

Police said the suspect got angry, walked back to his car, returned and shot the victim.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Oscar C. Casiano, of the 2800 block of California Ave. The other two victims were not hit by the bullets and are reported okay.

The gunman's picture was captured on the security cameras and images are expected to be released later today. He left in a dark blue Ford Fusion, police said.

Police Chief Patrick Delaney said at least 19 detectives are currently working on the case.

‘Duck Dynasty’ stars lift slain trooper’s son’s spirits

By Greg Hilburn | TheNewsStar.com | September 4, 2015

Smiles have been hard to come by lately for little Ethan Vincent, whose father Louisiana Senior State
Trooper Steven Vincent was slain while making a traffic stop last month.

“It’s been hard,” Vincent, 9, said quietly. “Real hard.”

But “Duck Dynasty” stars Willie and Uncle Si Robertson were able to make Vincent’s face light up for a
little while Friday morning at the Duck Commander Warehouse in West Monroe.

“I like (Uncle) Si because he’s funny and he drinks tea like me — I like it sweet,” said Vincent, a fourth-
grader, whose mother Katherine accompanied him on the trip.

Not that Uncle Si provided the best example Friday. “His hunting license expired,” said Vincent, smiling.

Willie Robertson laughed when Vincent told him Uncle Si’s license expired. “I’m not surprised,” Willie
said.

Vincent periodically blew on the duck call Si helped him assemble. “It’s going to be a long drive home (to Lake Charles),” his mother said.

THIS is so sad and senseless! :59 I watched early this morning when the suspect was barricaded in the hotel, then was shot. I was really hoping the deputy would pull through surgery. :( All because they were going to take away the guy's guns after being served with a domestic violence injunction (RO).

Joel Dixson Smith fatally shot Okaloosa County Deputy Bill Myers, cops say

NEWSDAY.com | By AP | September 22, 2015 5:09 PM

SHALIMAR, Fla. - A gunman fatally shot a sheriff's deputy outside a lawyer's office Tuesday and then barricaded himself inside a motel, where he exchanged gunfire with other deputies and was killed, authorities said.

Okaloosa County Deputy Bill Myers, 64, was shot multiple times in the back of the head and in the back by 33-year-old Joel Dixson Smith, Sheriff Larry Ashley said. Smith had gone to his lawyer's office to be given a domestic violence injunction by Myers and turn over firearms, Ashley said.

As they went to get the guns from Smith's car, Smith drew a concealed weapon and shot Myers multiple times, Ashley said.

Smith, a postal worker, then fled in his vehicle, heading to a Comfort Suites about 10 miles away in Niceville, where he had previously rented a room. He barricaded himself inside and deputies fired tear gas into his room. He charged out firing and was shot by deputies, Ashley said.

No one else was hurt.
[...]
Myers had retired in 2013 but started working part-time in January serving civil papers to earn extra money to take his granddaughter to Walt Disney World, the sheriff said.

Couple charged after conflicting stories about missing 9-week-old baby

By Kelsey Ott | WREG.com | October 10, 2015, 3:17PM

Missing: Baby Chance

SARASOTA, Fla. — Officials in Florida are trying to locate a 9-week-old baby as his parents are being held in a South Carolina jail awaiting extradition on child neglect charges.

Chance Walsh has been missing since Sept. 9. The child’s grandmother called police last month because she was concerned about the baby, which prompted a multistate investigation.

According to the arrest documents obtained by WFTS, the parents gave conflicting accounts of what happened to the baby, telling one person he was killed in a car accident and another that they gave him to a stranger they met in a Georgia motel.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged 36-year-old Joseph Walsh and 32-year-old Kristen Bury with child neglect.

During a search of the couple’s home, small amounts of blood were found on pillows, a comforter, a mattress and on the wall and door of the bathroom, according to WFTS.

Randy Quaid, wife held on $500K bail in fugitive case

USA Today
By Mike Donoghue, Free Press | October 12, 2015, 2:53PM EDT

Actor Randy Quaid, and his wife, Evi, were each ordered held in Vermont jails for lack of $500,000 bail Monday on charges of being fugitives from justice in California.

Evi Quaid pleaded not guilty Monday morning in Burlington. Randy Quaid appeared in court several hours later in St. Albans and will have another hearing in three days.

The arraignment for Evi Quaid took place about 90 minutes before her husband's scheduled court appearance in adjacent Franklin County on a fugitive charge. The pair was arrested over the weekend while trying to enter the United States from Canada.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, the extradition process to return the Quaids to California has begun. In a statement, the sheriff's office said that if the Quaids are ordered to remain in custody, the sheriff's Felony Fugitives Unit will coordinate their return back to California to face their outstanding charges.

[...]
Randy Quaid, 65, and Evi Quaid were taken into custody Friday night. He was detained by troopers in Vermont after Canadian officials said he'd be deported.

Quaid and his wife are wanted in Santa Barbara, California, to face felony vandalism charges filed in 2010 after they were found squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned.

The pair skipped several court appearances and went to Canada, where Evi Quaid was granted citizenship. Randy Quaid's bid for permanent residency was denied.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police have charged a man in connection with the death of an off-duty Memphis police officer.

Lorenzo Clark, 36, has been charged with felony possession of a firearm.

According to police, Clark is a neighbor of 31-year-old Terence Olridge. He lives two houses down.

Olridge was shot multiple times near his home just as he was leaving for work, according to police.

Three witnesses told WREG he was not wearing his uniform.

"While on his way to work on October 11, 2015, Officer Olridge had an encounter with his neighbor Lorenzo Clark. The encounter ended with gunfire exchange between Olridge and Lorenzo Clark. Officer Olridge was struck by the gunfire from Clark. After the shooting, Officer Olridge went back to his residence and tried to get help," said a MPD spokesperson.

Neighbors said his four-month pregnant fiance found him in the driveway.

Olridge died at the hospital.

WREG confirmed both men fired weapons in the altercation. Police said the gun Olridge fired was his service weapon but did not release any more details.

Kenan Ivery found guilty in murder of Akron Officer Justin Winebrenner

By Darcie Loreno & Dave Neithers | Fox8Cleveland | October 15, 2015, 12:31PM

AKRON, Ohio -- A jury has found Kenan Ivery guilty of all charges except tampering with evidence in the death of Akron Officer Justin Winebrenner.

Ivery has been convicted of aggravated murder, murder and several other charges in connection with the shooting at Papa Don's Pub in Akron in November 2014.

Winebrenner was off duty with friends the night of the shooting. Ivery was asked to leave because he was making some of the female customers uncomfortable. He returned with a gun.

Winebrenner, who witnesses said tried to keep those in the bar safe from Ivery, was shot twice and died from his wounds. Four other people inside the bar were either shot or grazed by bullets fired from Ivery's gun.

[...]
The jury was released after the verdict was read Thursday. There will be a second phase to determine if Ivery will get the death penalty. A hearing has been set for Tuesday.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Clayton County judge found probable cause to move criminal charges against Latausha Nedd to Superior Court.

Nedd is accused of threatening to harm police and Caucasian citizens in videos posted on YouTube.

A group of Nedd's supporters gathered outside the courthouse to call for her release. The group chanted "Free Latausha Nedd" and black power.

Nedd's supporters thinks she's being unfairly prosecuted, but the Clayton County Judge Wanda Dallas doesn't agree.

"Burn down police stations, take cops gun day. Really? That's not a threat to you?" Dallas asked.

After a tip, the body of Baby Chance was found yesterday in a remote, wooded area 13 miles from the parents' home. The ME has not made positive identification, but officials say it is probably Chance. :(
