Hemy Neuman seeks new trial

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A man who was found guilty but mentally ill in the shooting death of another man outside a suburban Atlanta preschool is asking for a new trial.

A judge is set to hear arguments Tuesday on Hemy Neuman's motion for a new trial. Neuman was sentenced in March 2012 to life in prison without parole in the November 2010 death of Rusty Sneiderman.

Neuman worked with Sneiderman's wife, Andrea Sneiderman, and was her supervisor. Prosecutors and Neuman's attorneys said during his trial that he and Andrea Sneiderman were having an affair, allegations she has denied.

A jury in August found Andrea Sneiderman guilty of lying to investigators and during Neuman's trial.

Neuman's lawyers say he's entitled to a new trial because Andrea Sneiderman's perjured testimony was used to convict him.

Neuman's retrial started this week, 600 potential jurors are expected to be called, the trial lasting a month per the judge. This is what he looks like now. IDK if he found Jesus or Mohammad. I'll post a story with a better photo when the trial begins.

Hemy Neuman retrial begins with juror dismissal, opening statements

DECATUR, GA -The retrial of Hemy Neuman, accused of murdering the husband of his alleged mistress, got off to a rocky start Monday morning.

The judge dismissed a juror who, during the selection process, failed to mention his sister had been murdered. The court also took precautions for another juror who was suffering family issues, as well as her own health problems.

The prosecutor spent 25 minutes giving opening statements. During the defense's opening statements, an objection arose to their reference to Neuman's father, who was captured by Nazis during World War II.

Brief trial update.

There is no court on Thursday. On Friday, the defense will call any re-rebuttal witnesses and then rest. Once that happens, closing arguments will begin.



A second mental health expert testified Wednesday [August 17, 2016] that he believes admitted killer Hemy Neuman is faking mental illness.

Dr. Joseph Browning, a forensic psychiatrist from Georgia Regional Hospital, told jurors Neuman was too methodical and thoughtful in his planning and carrying out of the crime to be manic.

“When Mr. Neuman was talking to us about how methodical he was in his planning and how thoughtful he was, he was very thoughtful about not harming other anyone else,” Browning testified. “He took a gun safety class. He wanted to make sure no one else was harmed. That goes against what a manic person would do."

He testified Neuman’s actions were more in line with someone angry about a relationship ending than someone who was delusional.
