UPDATED: New Information Emerges on Navy Yard Shooting Suspect Aaron Alexis



About eight hours have passed since shooting began at the Washington Navy Yard, and information is still sketchy. Early reports that as many as three shooters were involved appear not to be true. Investigators are still seeking a possible second suspect, but it now appears highly likely that today’s carnage — which killed at least 12 victims and may have wounded about a dozen others — was committed by one man, Aaron Alexis, 34, of Fort Worth, Texas. He was shot and killed, and was identified by his fingerprints, the New York Times reports.

"Harris, a rookie police officer and military veteran, was fired May 31. His attorney Eric Latinsky said Thursday that Brown's death was an accident that happened during a fast-moving situation. He said he hopes that's the conclusion reached by prosecutors."

"Community leaders called for an investigation into the death of Brown, a popular Spring Hill barber who had been arrested numerous times in the past two decades."

“Leaders in the community are asking people to be patient through the process and at that point, based on the information, we'll have to formulate a game plan,” Johnson said."

Marlon Brown's former wife, Krystal Brown, and high-profile attorney Benjamin Crump also called for an independent investigation of the fatal crash.

The move comes a week after a grand jury decided not to indict former rookie Officer James Harris in the death of Marlon Brown, 38, who a medical examiner said died when he slipped while running from police May 8 and was pinned under the car.
