I am going to be away from my standard poodle puppy, Lily, for the next month while I am studying in Ireland. I am at the airport now and already miss her greatly. Last night she suspected something was up and would not let me out of her sight....snuggled next to me on the couch and did not want me to get up for anything.

cks ... CAN YOU talk to your Lily via the phone? Tell her you will be back. That "It's ok... I'll be right back"? They don't understand and think we are gone.
Aren't they amazing ... how they know?
Does she have your slipper or anything she can sleep with? Oh ... I went thru this. Thought it best to leave my Lucy here with my Fiance' when I went back to PA to fix up my home to sell. He told me when they got back from the airport, SHE TORE THRU THE HOUSE ... even the upstairs 2 bedrooms that we didn't even use!
Try the phone?? See if she will listen... :(
Lots of good luck with your studies. Stay safe ... always trust your instincts. THEY are NEVER wrong!!
The Pros say ...

Thank you for the advice. Yes, I will talk to her on the phone. Twenty-four days will seem like an eternity but at least my son and husband will still be there to spoil her.

Good you have family there. She won't feel too ... lost. My Lucy didn't like the phone. Seemed to be afraid of it. I hope Lily won't.

Nope, not going anywhere, I will always hang here. BTW, on an RT but off topic note, Just worked out a trade with my niece's fiance's step mother to trade the insane cat for a dog. The dog was found by my niece and her fiance in the river and they got her on their boat just in time. The step mother tried to keep the dog but it was having issues with their cats and she said that she killed one of their cats. She said she had to find a new home for the dog. Since we have a pyscho cat that didn't get along with our dogs, we worked out a trade and now River is with us and Sheba is with her. Really cool dog but needs some TLC. The good thing is that people have donated money to help with her heart worm treatment and eye surgery. Since I am more of a dog person than a cat person, it makes it easier on me. It is also better for our 3 legged cat to not have the psycho cat dominating her.

Hi Palm.

Is that a Tamarin?

I recall how cute and friendly they are... at Singapore Zoo... world's best (that I have seen).. as open as can possibly be... the Tamarins are not (can not) be confined.. so they scurry about in contact with visitors. I also recall somebody with a pet monkey (a macaque) as part of a psych experiment... tried making it a personal family pet.. took it everywhere around University.. it was to be an attempt to train monkeys to act as pets and helpers around the home for partially disabled people. It was a bit of a failure... that monkey was a vicious bitey thing :)

My Birman cat hates for us to be on the phone. She gets her rectangular mad eyes on. She knows if we are on the phone it is less attention to her.

Yes, Freddy is a Cottontop Tamarin; he's one of several we've had over the years.

The vid works... never tried vid at PB.

I guess candy is ok? Just make sure he is not grabbing skittles and watermelon drink.... it could indicate a problem. :)

Joni & MM: My avatar is my little guy Riley. He's about 5.5 pounds. He was a pound lighter when I adopted him almost a year ago! He doesn't seem to be too heavy, so I think maybe he's matured into that weight. We've given him a July 4 birthday, so he'll be "officially" 2 on Independence Day.

I don't know exactly what breeds are in there. The animal shelter had him down as part Chihuahua, but I don't see any chi in him. He's definitely got plenty of terrier in there, and I think maybe Maltese. His coat is wiry and just plain odd -- very full in some places and thin in others. I'm thinking about doing one of those DNA kits on him just to see what comes back. He's just a doll and so much fun. Tons of energy and personality. A little on the shy side when we go out, but I would be too if I was that small!!

Thanks for asking. I'm crazy about the little feller. :heart

(I have 3 other pets, too. I'll change my avatar occasionally, lol!)

So I'm quoting myself from months ago on the subject of Riley, to point out how DEAD WRONG I was about his "lineage." I did one of those doggy DNA tests on him, and his primary breeds are Chihuahua-mix and Pomeranian-mix. This means he's not a Chihuahua/Pom mix, but Chi mixed with stuff + Pom mixed with stuff. And like most mixed breeds, the mixes go back several generations. The test was also able to detect Bichon Frise, Whippet, Min Pin, Havanese, and of all things, Australian Cattle Dog in his "lineage."

So now we refer to him as the Cattle Dog, of course. :Gslap

Wow! Who'd ever guess all those breeds were in the mix! (I can see the Chi and the Havanese in him.)

This is my sweet, Weezie cat. She appeared in my neighborhood a couple of years ago and became my favorite Christmas present. She sticks to me like glue. Paying bills? She right by my computer. Taking a bath? She's hanging over the edge of the tub (I have pictures of that, too--her not me :-). Sitting on my front porch? Weezie wouldn't miss it! She's a truly loyal "alley cat."
