Britain's Prince Charles tests positive for Covid-19 coronavirus



Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth, is 71 years old.

"The Prince of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus," Clarence House said in a statement.

"He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual."

"The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus," Clarence House said.

The Prince and his wife, Camilla, are self-isolating at home in Scotland.

"It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks."

The Covid-19 patient in Nelson Hospital’s ICU, that Dr Bloomfield mentioned, is a man in his 70’s. Dr Bloomfield earlier said the man had underlying health conditions and was doing OK before taking a turn in the last 24 hours.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tests positive

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus and is self-isolating in Downing Street.

He said he had experienced mild symptoms over the past 24 hours, including a temperature and cough, but would continue to lead the government.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he had also tested positive while England's Chief Medical Officer, Prof Chris Whitty, has shown symptoms.

Air New Zealand confirms eight staff test positive for COVID-19

An airline spokesperson said on Saturday the staff had all worked on the long-haul fleet to either LA or London.


The spokesperson said one of the eight staff members has recovered from the virus.

In an email sent to staff on Friday afternoon and shared with Newshub, the airline confirmed it was aware of "confirmed cases" within the Air NZ workforce.

Air NZ said it was working to identify any staff members who may have been in close contact with the new cases which would take up to 48 hours.

Staff were told that despite working on the frontline as essential service workers, the risk to flight attendants remains low.

LATEST: New Zealand has had its first coronavirus-caused death this morning, a woman in her 70s who was initially thought to have flu, died in the early hours of this morning on the West Coast.
Director-General of health Ashley Bloomfield says her death is sad, and reflects the risk the virus poses to older people.
He says 21 DHB staff who were treating her have been put into self-isolation.

There are now 50 cases of Covid-19 linked to Auckland's Marist College, according to the Ministry of Health's website.

The number of cases connected to the Redoubt bar in Matamata has risen by 9 to 32.

27 people who attended the World Hereford Conference in Queenstown have now tested positive for Covid-19, an increase of 3.

And 22 people who were at a wedding in Bluff have now tested positive for the disease - an increase of 14 cases.

The number of clusters on the Ministry of Health's website has now dropped from 14 to 7.

It says it is now classifying clusters as having more than 10 cases.
