20 people killed in El Paso shooting, Texas governor says

(CNN) Twenty people were killed and more than two dozen were injured in a mass shooting at an El Paso shopping center on Saturday, according to Texas and local authorities.
"Lives were taken who should still be with us today," Gov. Greg Abbott said at a news conference near the Walmart and an adjacent shopping mall.
Twenty-six people were injured, according to El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen.

A 21-year-old white man from Allen, a suburb of Dallas more than 650 miles away, is in police custody, Allen said. Authorities are looking at potentially bringing capital murder charges against him.

I imagine that "no guns at all" would be the knee-jerk answer, but that is silly and impossible.

Dayton, Ohio shooting: 9 dead and 27 injured, suspect identified

Shortly after 1am this morning on East Fifth Street in the city’s Oregon District of Dayton Ohio, a lone gunman opened fire killing nine people and wounding 27. The shooting suspect has been identified as Connor Betts, 24, of Bellbrook Ohio [identified by local residents as a “disturbed” individual]. Two of the deceased victims were the shooters sister and her boyfriend.

Officers killed the lone suspect after he fired for less than a minute from a “.223 high-capacity” rifle, while carrying additional magazines. The rifle has been identified by local officials as an “AK” variant. Deb Decker, public information officer for Montgomery County, said the shooter used an assault rifle. The shooter was wearing body armor.

The gunman was identified as Connor Betts, 24, according to local and federal law enforcement sources. The FBI and local law enforcement served a search warrant at his family home in Bellbrook, Ohio.

4 dead, 2 wounded in Southern California stabbings

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who was “full of anger” went on a two-hour stabbing and robbery rampage in Southern California, killing four people and wounding two others, authorities said Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Garden Grove man was taken into custody after he came out of a 7-Eleven in Santa Ana, southeast of Los Angeles, and dropped a knife along with a handgun that he had taken from a guard, police said.

The violence appeared to be random and the only known motives seem to be “robbery, hate, homicide,” Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney said at a news conference.

“We know this guy was full of anger and he harmed a lot of people tonight,” he said.
