I was watching it on BBC and suddenly they stopped showing it. They reported that there was a fire there in 2013 and that there were no working smoke detectors. So if it is just a slum lord disaster why would BBC suddenly stop broadcasting it? Fox is "monitoring" it sporadically.

It's West London.... "Slums" are in East and South London :)

And these days old "slums" are often up-market trendy apartments.

I dont have MUCH direct knowledge.. though one of three hotels we stayed in on our UK Trip was "Chelsea Towers". Chelsea borders Kensington.. Chelsea is very "posh" (these days)... Stella McCartney's fashion boutique was close to our hotel. :)

As far as crime shows and real life crime..etc.. indicating "rough" areas.....South London and East London gangs are famous. Ref "The Kray Twins" (Also Monty Python The Piranha Brothers)

Seems Grenfell is an exception in West London or these folks are very zealous tenants.

Where residents of Grenfell Tower were recently terrified by an 18 day long power surge that could have caused a fire disaster akin to Lakanal House and had the very real potential to have burnt us all to death..

Where the seriousness of this danger to residents was hushed up by a TMO report to the Scrutiny Committee that denies fire risk and claims smoke was caused by steam rising from a hot surface!

Not questioning your knowledge all I can go by is what I find on the inter-web and we all know how reliable that is :roll

How horrible for people. A woman is describing her niece who they have not heard from since 1:39 AM saying things like she has black curly hair a beautiful smile. She was on the 20th floor. Just so sad.

According to a live presser with fire officials at 12:30PM ET, there are 12 known fatalities and 78 injured in the tower fire. The building is still burning. A select number of firefighters are inspecting each floor of the inside of the building, along with drones from Kent. They have made it to the top floor.

The Latest: Police: 58 missing, presumed dead in London fire

LONDON (AP) — The Latest on the London high-rise fire (all times local):

3:40 p.m.

London police say 58 people who were in Grenfell Tower are still missing and assumed to be dead.

Police Commander Stuart Cundy said Saturday that this number, which was based on reports from the public, may rise. He says it will take weeks or longer to recover and identify all the dead in the public housing block that was devastated by a fire early Wednesday.

He said there may have been people in the tower that police are not aware of, which would add to the death toll.

He says the search for remains had been paused because of safety concerns but has resumed. Emergency workers have reached the top of the 24-story tower.

Cundy promised an exhausting investigation into the tragedy. He says “my heart goes out to those affected.”
