SWAT stand-off (near San Diego, CA)

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - Escondido police officers have surrounded a home where a suspect has barricaded himself after allegedly assaulting his mother Tuesday morning.

A SWAT team has taken up positions around the home at 11th Avenue and South Spruce Street in Escondido. The suspect is reportedly armed with a baseball bat, a samurai sword and is refusing to speak with officers.

Driver of 18-wheeler arrested, dog OK after chase from Dallas County to Greenville

Authorities arrested the driver of an 18-wheeler who led state troopers on a low-speed chase from the Dallas area to Hunt County on Wednesday.

David Arnold of Virginia was supposed to drive the truck filled with produce to Maryland for a California-based company named Intrade, said Lonny Haschel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Instead, authorities say, the 60-year-old led them on a chase through several counties in North Texas. Along for the ride was a “very friendly but scared” golden retriever, who is now in the custody of Greenville Animal Control, Haschel said.

Arnold is being held in the Hunt County jail on charges of evading arrest and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Oh Carm this has gotten sad. He is so sick .. they need to get him down, get him help. I've seen him pee, poop and act crazy. :eek It has made me mad that they can't do something ... put the blow up things below him and shoot him with a tranquilizer like do bears in trees in peoples' yards. They've had enough time to construct a trapeze net under him! Sad and Mad ... then I see this tweet.

This sort of stuff has a habit of... becoming a habit. There was a spate of hijackings in the 60's... various demands.... it got to be more and more popular. We dont want that again.

Man Strapped With Explosives Hijacks Plane

A man strapped with explosives has hijacked a passenger plane during an internal flight in Egypt.

EgyptAir flight MSR181 has now landed at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, where all but four foreign passengers and the crew are being allowed to disembark.

Eight Britons, 10 Americans and one Irish citizen were reported to have been among the 81 passengers on board when the plane took off. The nationalities of those left on board is unknown.

The hijacker - reported to be an Egyptian national - has asked police to leave the runway.
