It's really hard, as a life-long fan and being a sports nut, not to watch football.  But I haven't watched much in the past two years AND ended my Fantasy Football League this year --- I'd had for more than 17 years. I can't tell ask my husband not to watch and we're stationed in the same room. So I'll be watching IF it stays interesting. I will watch halftime.

Some games have stopped showing the National Anthem and so you never know who does kneel and which players stand. But I'd think for the Super Bowl, they'd air it for the show and fireworks, jet flyover, parachuting ... etc. that accompanies it. But IDK what's gonna happen. The media will be all over it.  ------------------ ETA: Our TV was turned on late, so I have no idea what happened and missed the "opening show"...  It's been one of those days.

I heard the anthem... but wasn't paying attention.. I think they had a closeup of singer and so TV viewers wouldn't see the dopes. If they played up... be nice to see a photo --------------- I dont understand why one side keeps getting another turn.. after being stopped.. dropped the ball... pushed out of play.. and even after the ball thrown beyond goal area? Do they HAVE to take a field goal for some reason... or do they simply chose to settle for a field goal? |

Each team gets four plays to advance 10 yards. Offensive penalties increases the yardage needed. Defensive penalties decreases the yardage needed.They keep the ball as long as they make the 10 yards and more. When they make the 10 yards, they go back to 1st and 10. After the 3rd possession, if still in the 10 yard space, they have to kick the ball to the other team. BUT if they are close to making the 10 yards (3rd & 1 or 2) they can make a 4th attempt, but if they don't make it, the other team gets the ball at that spot (no kicking it to them). After a touchdown, they usually kick a field goal for the extra point. IF the game is close and it's at the end of the game, after a touchdown, they can try to run the ball in from the 5 yardline. If they make it, that's 2 points. That's pretty much the game. The ball possession back and forth between the two teams. |

K.... thx Clear as mud now. (Silly game) The field goals I was asking about were 3 point goals... not the field goal for 1 point extra after a touchdown ------------- (I think) I just saw after 4th and 8 (Failed to make 10) the eagles still got another turn? Maybe possession changed sides... hard to tell since they keep taking breaks (I see NZ ads not US ads) |

Oh, sorry. On 4th down they have three choices. Kick a field goal if close enough. Run another play, but if they don't make needed yardage, other team gets the ball at that spot. Punt the ball to the other team. Rumpole.  THIS is a simple game compared to cricket. LOL

Yeah... I'll give you that... but cricket is complicated and runs for 5x 8 hour days... this is a bit complicated and they only play for 2 minutes... The womansplainin' has helped

Good -------------------- I watched a clip of the national anthem and it looks like they all stood. None of the clips have the President's message, yet. The Patriots all stood in line with one hand on a players' shoulder and one hand on the heart. The Eagles were mostly swaying back and forth looking at the ground. The Eagles are in the Cowboy's division and a HUGE rivalry. The Eagles playing at home, have ended the careers of three Cowboys from questionable (intentional) injuries. Eagles fans have a reputation of being the worst of the worst. Throwing things like batteries inside snowballs during a game. In fact, the old stadium had an underground courtroom with judge and bailiffs. They had so many arrests in the 70's through 90's, they would take fans straight to the courtroom, charge them and take them to jail. When they built the new stadium, they did away with the courtroom. |

Not his best songs, Rumpole. He had to do the rap bit. But I think it was a fabulous half-time performance. Two things. No words were beeped out. First time a performer to go into stands at a Super Bowl. I thought that was kinda neat. I got goosebumps towards the end, but I wanted to hear Bye, Bye, Bye.

You're seeing a great game, Rumpole. Usually at half-time, the score is something like 28-0, New England. Nothing like a Super Bowl "blowout". Anything can happen now. I have a feeling New England made some adjustments in the locker room. They don't go down easy. They came back from a playoff potential loss and won in the last minute. |

Now THAT is funny.  I have watched him on SNL with Jimmy Fallon a million times. Didn't watch the seasons, only his bits. I forgot all about that. HAHA |
