Joni, are you a musician? :51
I am, too, of sorts. I especially love 'war music' and big band 30's/40's,
and I have a great hand-picked collection.
Would rather listen to that than anything else... :66

And for those of you who wondered about Billy Joe McCalaster,
he jumped off the Tallahatchie bridge because he was gay.
Or, at least he had sex with the guy from the mill.
One of my favorite songs!!

Hi kj

As well as Joni's faves... I did start a thread way back...

Pennies From Heaven - Music From 1920's and 30's
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=50

I guess the era before the war.. but big bands and similar music.

I was turned on to it by the BBC TV series "Pennies From Heaven" (The US film version not as good) there was a lot of great music in the series, but I have also listened to more of same bands and same era.. and like it a lot :)

kj I KNEW I liked you and sure did MISS YOU when you weren't here! Somehow musicians
can sense each other. I find this in stores, anywhere, and with clerks, etc.

YOU put this video on? YEAAAAAA kj!!!! :51 :91

What a sweet old obscure song. I think today's kids are missing so many elements of music,
loving tunes, complicated creative jazz music, etc. They seem to like songs with 5 chords! How boring to those of us who have been thru the trenches of years of classical studies!!!

Thanks for the above video, and thanks for learning how to do it. :26 :77 I just about did ... lol.
It DID sound so complicated, etc. delete all before v=
Sounded almost silly - but it works!!!

Wanted to point out something about the evolution of trombone styles.
When I heard the Stan Kenton Band ... I couldn't BELIEVE the testosterone that enveloped me as I stood
before them on the dance floor... with most others. A few die-hard dancers, danced.
Anyhow ... here this video at marker 2:17 and you will hear the newer evolution of TROMBONES. LOVE THEM ever since then!!

Listen at the 2:17 mark. That is a trombone player who was with Stan Kenton. WOW! BTW he wanted to stop and meet me when he was coming to PA a few years back. We were both on "Kentonia". We never made it ... he got sick. :10

We all LOVED this guy!! Genius, funny, the BEST!
His son was on drugs... Frank wasn't doing well with work - CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT????
Got divorced... very very depressed. Shot his boys and himself. WE are all heartbroken.

You will notice his ATTITUDE and virtuosity! So different than previous generations. Because of
him and others, I fell in LOVE with the trombone. That was usually the last instrument selected in the school bands! :Gslap That was ... then ...

Beautiful tune... looking ahead. She is married to Elvis Costello.

She does about every tune I did, and Shirley Horn, before me! Great tunes!
