The next “witness” after the lunch recess wasn’t a witness at all. Rather the State introduced into evidence a recoding of George Zimmerman’s appearance on the Sean Hannity show FOX. In it, Zimmerman engaged in a back and forth dialogue with Hannity about the events that night. Given the State’s later comments, it seems that the main, perhaps only, purpose for introducing this visit was to show the moment when Hannity asks Zimmerman if he was familiar with Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, and Zimmerman answers in the negative.

The Trayvon Martin Case, Update 32.4: Conjuring Racism

Regular readers will recall that I have not, in any substantive way, addressed the issue of race in the Trayvon Martin case. I have addressed it only to note that there is no evidence whatever to suggest that race is involved, quite the opposite. However, the proponents of The Narrative have labored mightily to conjure racism out of thin air.

Week One saw the prosecution playing defense.

Deadly force may be employed in self-defense when one reasonably believes that he, or another, is in imminent danger of suffering serious bodily harm or death. This is true in Florida and elsewhere — there is no requirement that one be injured, nor is there a minimum threshold of injury.

Why? Because this is sensible. When under attack, you cannot possibly know what damage the next blow will cause. Will it render you unconscious and at the mercy of the attacker? Will it leave you crippled or brain-damaged? Will it kill you?

In “stand your ground” states like Florida, as long as you are legally present when attacked, you have no obligation to run away before using force — though since Zimmerman had no opportunity to flee, that is not a factor in this case.

The state said they could try to get him today for A/V but it was not exactly certain. We've seen this from Nelson too many times to know that she is going to let all of this in but who knows if the desert wondering professor will be around. I think the state said they have a couple of other folks waiting in the wings as well. We'll find out starting at 8:30am EST today.
