I'm calling bullshit on this ... I watched the video carefully...and maybe the guy took the picture without a flash, but I don't see a camera flashing when she makes that exact move and face. I cannot stand her grinning while speaking. Reminds me of a flim-flam artist.

Maybe Zimmerman is trying to become the next Norman Rockwell? This doesn't apply to the copyright issue, but maybe to the complaints of the Traybots about copying photos and creating "artwork."

All this copyright crap is, well...crap. The AP is getting pathetic. If it's a public figure (or in AC's case, a public figure-less), then a picture taken for news should not have copyrights. Why not just let people copyright themselves? Then Sarah Palin could sue Tina Fey- right??

I am not a lawyer, so have no idea how this copyright stuff works. But I have to wonder if the artistic changes George made to the picture invalidates the copyright issue. Is there a law against using a copyrighted photo as a model for a piece of artwork that is different from the original copyrighted photo?

I think you guys are on to something concerning no flashes during that particular pose. I couldn't bring myself to watch her again. They Trayvonites are all over that George left out the crucifix. I think he left it out on purpose. She is not worthy.

Our friend El Hoff summed it up best.... John Phillips is just trying to stay relevant and in then media now that his role in the Jordan Davis/Michael Dunn case is finished being that the civil suit is settled.

Phillips, Wilson, and the AP are all ignoring.... well 2 points actually....

1. Zimmy never distributed the painting.... Robert Jr did... so the cease and desist threats are BS and meaningless

2. Zimmy never indicated he intended to sell it or profit from it.... Robert Jr did.. so again... it's all Zimmy haters trying to blow smoke up the public's ass!

Last month, Zimmerman earned a winning bid of just over $100,000 on eBay for one of his paintings.

The Associated Press, however, says that Zimmerman’s latest painting is a direct copy of one of the news agency’s photos and is demanding that any sale of the artwork be halted.

Sybrina responds to speaking invitations that she receives. The Trayvon Martin issue has resonated strongly in the black community. It is only normal that this is where the invitations come from. It does not require any "pandering" on Sybrina's part.

I see George's painting and the AP claim are still being discussed.

I wonder if the AP thing is actually a "business" decision (which I can accept), or is it just petty spiteful nastiness?

I CAN understand that AP (or any photo copyright holder) would want: a) to protect their property from any use that would detract from any other use of the property, and b) want payment, either a one off or ongoing royalties. All legit business stuff.

I do wonder if this was any other Joe and not George whether AP would be concerned at all. Maybe George Zimmerman is a minority of one and is being singled out and victimised?

But is it simply that in this case? Seems to me we all KNOW what AP and their lawyer are... we should be just haggling over the price?

This seems more than that... certainly as far as the Traybot Worrier types are concerned.

It is NOT just a matter of wanting George to pay AP a fair price or even a percentage of his profits....
They want George STOPPED..... punished.... imprisoned for even attempting to use a photo (allegedly)
