14 days to appeal apparently, I wonder if OP and his family have the stomach for it.

No. lucky if he survives.

Dunno about appeal? Maybe his family will push for it and pay?

At the moment, defence said no appeal - and uncle Arnold Pistorius also indicated to reporters no appeal

Pistorius turns to look at his family who reach out to him, then walks unsteadily down the stairs to the cells.

Asked if they will appeal verdict or sentence, Arnold Pistorius, the athlete's uncle, shakes his head.

I am pretty sure he goes to prison today, hence the holding cell downstairs.

I do believe what I have heard about him being a broken man.

Pistorius is on his way here - Pretoria Central Prison.

The infamous jail is said to be overcrowded with South Africa's most dangerous criminals.

However it should be pointed out, the South African prisons service has insisted it will cater for Oscar's disability.

There were rumours yesterday a cell has already been specially prepared for him.

Something about 10 months in jail then house arrest seems to be actually what he will serve, but we don't know how long house arrest will be. There is a man being interviewed who has spent 6 years in prison, he said OP won't be safe as a disabled man unless he is in the hospital wing, and even then prisoners have been known to injure themselves just to get into the hospital wing in order to injure a prisoner in that unit. This man also mentioned the high chances of rape, he seemed pretty genuine. He was being interviewed by Alex Crawford of Sky news. This ex prisoner said OP would not be in a cell specifically because he is so disabled.

Jill@Jilltweety

Barry Roux's blonde buddy said he serves 1/5 or 1/6 of the time. Alex Crawford interviewed them leaving court x

So... 10 months only?

yes it seems to be 10 months which on the face of it, will probably seem like an eternity to him, they can't give him special treatment in prison, as other prisoners will think it's because he's a 'celebrity' so I do not envy him one iota.

The Blonde assistant wouldn't be drawn into how long house arrest would be - presumably something like a year to 2 years, although he was given 5 years, as we know he probably won't serve in or out of prison more than 2. I'd imagine.

How much of the five-year sentence Pistorius will serve in prison is already a matter of much dispute.

The defence says it expects him to need to serve one-sixth of the sentence – 10 months – before being considered for release to house arrest.

The National Prosecuting Authority says one-third of the sentence – 20 months – is the minimum requirement.

I think it will become clearer sooner rather than later - off to have my shower and ready for the day ahead.

It's the wee small hours for you RT.

It's 10:30 pm.. normal bed time soon. Unless Riot in Ferguson starts tonight?

I wonder how the twilight Zone inhabitants are taking this sentence?

Not happy with only 10 mnths, but taking comfort in fact OP will suffer and his career is over.

They think Nel will appeal, but wait full 14 days so that OP suffers... on that they could be right. Nel is that nasty.

They are convinced OP wont be able to stop himself erupting in anger because he is a violent monster.

I think more likely he will descend into deep depression.

Is Oscar's running career over?

A potential release in just 10 months would leave Oscar Pistorius technically free to run in the Rio Olympics in 2016.

But the BBC's Dan Roan already appears to have quashed that idea.

He's spoken to the IPC - the International Paralympic Committee - who've said there's no way Oscar would be allowed to compete.

It appears they are essentially handing him a five-year ban to reflect his prison sentence.

That would leave him almost 33 by the time he could race again.

Is his athletics career over then?

in the normal course of what happens in these cases, I'd imagine his career is over, however, it could be that once he serves his sentence, there will be those who will say 'well he's now a free man, having served his sentence' and give him another shot at his sporting life, but he will need to keep himself fit enough to be able to compete at the older age.

Well justice is one thing, but to be happy that a very unpleasant time may lie ahead, and therefore be cruel, is terrible, and you're right about Nel.

I thought it was later in NZ but I just checked and I was wrong LoL

According to a Jo'berg lawyer it is not definite that he may only serve 10 months, followed by house arrest, he said, he has to earn it, in other words he has to stay out of trouble in prison, and almost be a model prisoner, if so, like all prisoners he will then apply for early release after 10 months.

In other words, he may still serve a min of 5 years!
