Oralandar Brand-Williams judge is looking through jury questionaires right now..while jury pool waits..among the ques. is whether they have formed an opinion on case questionaires now given to defense side and prosecution..taking a 5 minute break while each side puts the questionaires in reading order but jury remaining on court room while we take break judge, defense team and prosecution making sure they have questionaires from all potential jurors in the wafer trial wafer trial is being presided over by wayne county circuit court judge dana hathaway first 14 prospective jurors being called now for questioning to see if they will be slected to be on jury 9 of the first 14 prospec jurors excused for "cause" . one indiv. dismissed was jehovah wit.who cited her relig.for not being able to serve prosecutors and defense up to judge for another sidebar 8 more people called in second group of prospective jurors to fill 14 seats. waiting to see who will be kept defense and prosecutors approaching judge to give their picks of who will stay or be excused from jury pool..they are now headed to chambers for a five-minute break...not sure what the issue is that they need to head into chambers for judge, defense attys and prosecutors back in courtroom following break in judge's chambers..back on record

Oralandar Brand-Williams judge says she'll read michigan law on self defense to juror who said on questionaire indicated he has definite opinion on self defense indid says he has an opinion on self defense as it pertains to the law but that he can set his opinon aside for sake of trial. one potent. juror says he has know info on case while another says they indiectly knows someone affiliated w/case. they likelywill be boot juror says she knows of mcbride case through church affiliation. defense and prosecutors talking with judge now. we'll know soon he's tossed taking another 5 minute break: jurors will be able to leave courtroom after they get warning not to talk about case, view soc. media judge telling potent jurors not to research Wafer case by any means, not on Internet.not anywhere! they can be held in contemptorbefined "reporters are everywhere"..says wafer defense atty cheryl carpenter in her concerns about potent jurors not discussing the case with anyone Court back in.wafer atty wants potential juror who goes to mccbrides dad's church booted. Judge says no cause to defense atty wants other juror excused cause he says he strongly disagreed with Stand Your Ground laws.wafer atty says this casenotaboutit wafer atty also complains jury selection going too fast and that there is a rushed tone to it. jury pool back in..two more people called to fill 14 seats. judge talking to jury now about media exposure on case Judge and defense atty say this is not a Stand Your Ground case. judge now asking jurors if they have been or had family members who were victim of crime. judge continuing questioning of jurors such as any one of you think Mr. Wafer on trial because he must have done something wrong other questions are that do they believe the prosecution has the burden of proof only one juror lives in dearborn heights, where the wafer shooting occured (Sideshow Bob will be disappointed) lol judge asking jurors if they own fire arm: three of them do and about 8 of them have fired one before but not on another human being

Oralandar Brand-Williams prospective juror says firearams ownership shld be very limited. another says background checks for gun ownership shld be more extensive judge asking if people shld not be allowd to have shotguns in their home. a couple jurors raise their hands. on ques.of pretrial publicity 2 jurors say they can't fairly serve based on it..none say they have "preceived conceived notions of race" judge asks african american jurors if they wld feel disloyaltry/betrayal to their race if they deliver not guilty verdict for wafer.no hands judge also has asked if jurors feel outcome of wafer shooting wldnt been diff. if he were black and mcbride white: no hands another potent: juror: "I'm a Roman Catholic and I don't believe in killing." prosecution has said it does not believe the wafer case has been about race defense atty/prosecutors now talking to judge in sidebar the Roman Catholic juror says he can be fair and that his decision wld be based on evidence in the case jurors now being asked if they ever had to defend themselves against someone else..two said they did but not with gun judge asks jurors if anyone of them have had to use "deadly force" against another person: no hands judge to jurors: anyone ever had to kill another person or a family member have to kill another person: no hands judge dana hathaway getting ready to read michigan's self defense law to jurors asst wayco pros athina sirginas interrupts reading asking for a sidebar with judge hathaway. reading by judge continuing Breaking for lunch in Wafer jury selection but another sidebar w/judge and defense attys and prosecutor on tap before the break another admonishment and instructions for jurors not to discuss or read about the case..two more jurors excused the two jurors excused: one was the dearborn heights resident and the other was a guy who said firearms ownership "should be very limited" jurors gone but defense atty and prosecution hashing out their jury picks before judge wafer atty cheryl carpenter still trying to get juror who goes to church where mcbride funeral held booted..but judge still says no. carpenter also wants roman catholic juror off. she's concerned about his earlier comments about not believing in killing everyone is breaking now for lunch. court back at 1:50 p.m

Oralandar Brand-Williams court back in session: jurors back. one person, who says she was victim of crime, dismissed. sidebar again w/judge defense attys and prosecutors in middle of questioning of jurors sidebar again with judge, defense attys and prosecutors juror who speaks English after second language says she cld have problem w/technical ques. that might arise during wafer trial. judge asks jurors if any of them part of neighborhood watch group. also, if anyone has strong feelings on guns: two say yes Judge: "when any of you would be influenced by race when deciding the verdict?": no hands and muttering of "No" Judge to jurors: "anybody believe that a man cannot be deathly afraid of a woman?" sidebar another juror is excused: a woman who has said she has issues with guns two more jurors excused. One of them is the woman who went to the same church as mcbride's dad and where the teen's funeral was held. a fourth juror is excused. new potential jurors are called to take their places. side again with attys cheryl and mack carpenter and pros. new juror seated to replace juror booted for language communication issues.English is his second language. new juror says she has formed opinion on wafer case already but will "do my best" to give a fair verdict if she serves on jury jury on bathroom break

Oralandar Brand-Williams court back in session jurors being asked about firearms: three of them (women) says they have fired guns before but none used one against a person two jurors had guns pulled on them. none ever killed another person sidebar to determine what jurors will get the boot from wafer trial two more jurors dismissed two more jurors gone and two more called. vacationing juror leaves for vactation monday when testimony expected to start another potential juror excused " I have planes ticket" judge: where you going Juror: aruba one of new potent. jurors says he is a gun owner: has a 9mm. he's never shot anybody with it. prosecutor challenging one of jurors. they are sidebarring with judge about it now two more jurors excused.

Oralandar Brand-Williams jurors have not been brought into courtroom yet. but judge, defense attys and prosecutors just did a quick sidebar they are about to bring jurors in court in session: judge says they are short of one juror one who wasn't called to sit in jury box but both parties agreed to go ahead with jury selection defense atty asking judge before jurors brought in for further ques. of a potential juror whose dad is a retired cop nope..not just yet: some issue causing deputies to delay bringing jurors in jurors coming in now head deputy in wafer trial courtroom runs a tight ship two more new jurors called..we'll see if they make the final cut

Oralandar Brand-Williams judge now asking jurors if they have any conversation or done research on the case: tells them again they are not to until a verdict in case judge going back over statment of fact in case with jurors. very brief statement judge now asking jurors if they wrote down everything they know about case on questionaire. she is probing each indiv juror judge doing voire dire(questioning) of two new jurors one of the two new potential jurors says he's been charged with a misdemeanor and the other not sure she can be fair in jury duty judge going back over the same questions and instructions as yesterday. she is polling each juror to ask if they understand the juror who says she cldn't be fair cause she doesn't trust cops says she has a hardship-surgery. she's being excused. the jury with misdemeanor going to east coast for wedding and now asking for hardship excusal. he got it. now another juror asking for one two more jurors being seated to replace outgoing jurors

Oralandar Brand-Williams judge going over questions with new potential juror. a female juror says she's been mugged a couple of times at gunpoint. another robbed new juror says she has formed an opinion based on media report. says she can't put that opinion aside and she is excused. another juror called.. new juror's mother shot and carjacked years ago..noone ever charged. she says she can be fair judge polling jurors: " You realize this is real life here. Real life and not television" judge wants to know at req.of defense atty if anyjuror has expertise in crime scene investigation: one does..she's studied forensic anthro sidebar with judge and defense attys, prosecution judge returning some jurors questionaires to get "some more details you may have" on case including media reports/opinion based on them three jurors in jury pool, not seated, raised their hands that they have additional info. on case. judgenoting their names to give them ques jurors headed out for 5 minute break will resume coverage on wafer jury selection later this afternoon. headed to anotehr story
