I agree with Mimi that it would have the potential to be a more rational trial if the jurors were sequestered. 10 days is a very doable amount of time.

Sounds like the prosecution is going to have to come up with some magic tricks to overcome what has been presented by the defense in opening so far (read from bottom to top)

The peep hole is broken, shattered, Carpenter said.

A law enforcement official saw them, but never took them, she said.

Carpenter is showing the jury plastic clasps that hold the insert on a screen door. "They were all popped off the screen door," she said.

After he laid down the shotgun, he ransacked the house looking for the cell phone, Carpenter said. She said it was in the pocket of his pants, which were hanging in his bathroom.

Carpenter: After firing, Wafer knew immediately: "I just killed somebody."

Carpenter said the screen door was broken before Wafer fired the shot.

The big question is why did he open the door, Carpenter said. "He didn't know what else to do," she said.

She said he went for the shotgun when he heard metal breaking on his front door.

"People were trying to get in. That was reasonable for Ted to believe and that's what he believed that night," Carpenter said.

She said the pounding got louder and louder.

She said he went up to his door unarmed, looked through the peep hole, and he saw a shadowy figure coming off of the porch and going around the house. Carpenter said he heard banging on the side door, too.

Carpenter said Wafer went to the kitchen to look for the cell. "The cell phone is no where in his house that he can find."

She said he looked for his cell phone, but couldn't find it.

Carpenter: At 4:30 a.m., Wafer was sound asleep. Suddenly he heard "Boom-boom-boom-boom. He is awoken."

Carpenter said it's important to pay attention to landing area. She said he never used that front door, the one near where McBride was shot. Carpenter said everyone goes to the side door of Wafer's home. She said he always keeps the screen door locked.

Agree.

But problem is it's decided by a Jury.... apparently of peers who think like "SideShow Bob" from Detroit :doh

Renisha was not drunk at 10:40? So how the hell was she 3x the legal limit at 4:00 am?

This is even more clear cut than the Trayvon case, why is this even at trial?

I am smooth stuck on Wafer seeing/hearing more than one person at his door. Will there be a bombshell in this case?

Rumpole, any chance of getting the 911 call transcripts?

He thought that it was more than one person because there was banging on the side door then the front door.

Seems to me and in fact it is even stated on the Daily Mail story, that the whole case is "he should have called 911" and "he should have kept the door closed". OK, well maybe he should have. Where is it stated in the statutes that you have to call 911 or lock your door instead of using deadly force? I would have to review the castle doctrine in Michigan, but in Florida, the simple act of someone attempting to enter your abode allows for the use of deadly force. No duty to look at any other options first.

Jury hears 2 versions of fatal porch shooting during Wafer trial
3:57 PM, July 23, 2014
By Elisha Anderson, Detroit Free Press Staff Writer

Two versions described the night a 19-year-old woman was shot and killed on the front porch of a Dearborn Heights home. Both were told during opening statements in Theodore Wafer’s trial taking place in Wayne County Circuit Court.

The prosecution told jurors about many of the final moments of Renisha McBride’s life prior to her ending up on Wafer’s porch, where she was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Nov. 2.

The defense gave the perspective of 55-year-old homeowner, who has been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm in McBride’s death.

Defense attorney Cheryl Carpenter said Wafer fell asleep watching television in his recliner and then heard “boom, boom, boom, boom” from the side door of his home, where he lived alone. Then another “boom, boom, boom, boom” on the front door. It happened around 4:30 a.m.

I didn't have time to watch it but I may be able to watch their opening statements later tonight.

I think the fact that Wafer thought he saw more than one person, the footprints on the air conditioner, and, the fact that his attorney brought up his belief that there was more than more than one person is going to be significant.

Where was she in the hours after crashing her car?

The damaged screen door, it all sounds like she was an aggressive drunk trying to get into a house that wasn't hers. It sure seems like she must have been at someone's house drinking booze for her blood alcohol count to be .22 .

Curious.

I was TRYING to watch, then follow tweets... shame about No Live Feed.

So far the State seem to be making the Defence case.. as happened in GZ trial? Clearly she was very drunk.
I agree she was most likely at someones house.... somebody must KNOW that. The aunty?
